Bespoke eternity-ish ring - show me show me!

Hi everyone,

I'm considering splurging and having a ring made for me. It would have different coloured gem stones to represent my family members. I've had a Google and got a vague idea of what I might like but thought I'd consult you knowledgeable lot too!

A few questions; how much roughly should I expect to pay for a silver ring with gem stones(no diamonds).

Is there actually any difference between white gold and silver?

And of course, show me your beautiful rings please! (Not a euphemism!)

Hi there
My gemstone ring has a blue topaz, citrine and amethyst set in sterling silver. I have taken two photos to show the different sides of the setting. Pics are so up-close that I am now inspired to get the ring cleaned!!
I am of no use to you in discussing likely costs as I am in NZ.
Once you have your ring, please come back and show us photos.

I had a ring made, it was £1100 for a silver ring with 5 small stones (that does include 2 diamonds though so you would probably be looking at less).

Have a look at Alison Moore Designs, they specialise in gemstone stacking rings and do lots of birthstone combinations, they can customise to order and advise on design choices.

I think white gold would be more hard wearing than silver
You need to decide what stones would symbolise best for you either a word or family names - any good local jeweller would either be able to make from scratch or order in ‘blanks’ to choose from - then you would choose your stones

Lovely ring @SueblueNZ

Thanks for the info @StarryStarrySocks. I had hoped it would be significantly less than that Sad

I've seen a lot of lovely rings on etsy but not necessarily with the right birthstones in. Stacking ring might be an alternative if a bespoke one is too pricey.

Thanks

Not bespoke but multi gemstones so might be useful for ideas.

Do you have any old pieces of jewellery that you no longer wear that could be repurposed? We had a ring made for our dd for her 21st birthday which was made from pieces inherited from my mum ( a gold bracelet and a single earring). It cost around £500 2 years ago.

No old jewellery. Most of mine is plastic Grin. I've attached some pics of styles I like just for fun. So something quite dainty.

Oh - re: white gold if you wear it every day the coat wears off so it goes pale gold, not silver coloured. Needs recoating.
If you want a silver colour then silver will be better (but loses its shape/gets scratches and dings more easily). Or best of all is platinum but ££££

Chachachawoo · 21/07/2021 17:06

This white gold. Stones are partly from a ring I inherited and some new husband got to fill in all the way round.
I wear it everyday and love it

New stones not new husband. Not that it matters

I second this recommendation, Jez is the loveliest guy to deal with and he's got some fab designs, lots in silver.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/07/2021 17:24

I love my silver ring(s) Blush

LadyEloise1 · 07/08/2021 14:48

Palladium is cheaper than platinum I think and doesn't need to be redone as white gold does.
Having said that my engagement ring is white gold and it's just faded a bit.
It's preowned- 1950's and looks fine.

Mine is like the one in the link, but 4ct instead of 5.

Mellonsprint · 07/08/2021 16:19

If you’re having something made you’re looking at least a couple of hundred. I had some unworn gold made into a more modern style snd bought a lovely square Amethyst to be set into it and it was £450.

I don't think there is much difference in the cost of gold and platinum at the moment.
Casmama · 07/08/2021 22:57

Not sure quite what you are looking for but I've a number of things from this website and very pleased with them. Birthstone stacking rings maybe?

Squiz81 · 07/08/2021 23:12

I love this, but it’s £932 😐 if anyone sees something similar please let me know! This is expensive as it’s coloured diamonds but I’m not fussed about having real diamonds I just like the style

Have you had a look on Etsy? There used to be a lot of people who did this kind of work, when I last looked a few years back.

Maybe something like www.etsy.com/listing/476415261/multistone-band-with-8-stones-silver

Or www.etsy.com/listing/169517107/3-stone-mothers-ring-in-sterling-silver

Or you can find a shop (on Etsy or elsewhere - folksy is an online UK equivalent) that makes something similar/does work that you like, and see how much they'd charge to do exactly what you want. It shouldn't be hundreds and hundreds of pounds for a sterling silver ring with some stones set in, I'd not have thought.

Come back and show us what you get!

indignatio · 08/08/2021 07:01

www.jamesfairhurst.com/

I love his work.

sashh · 08/08/2021 07:33

Are you intending to wear it everyday? The first 2 look rather delicate and fine for occasional wear but I think for everyday wear you might need a wider band.

I had a ring made similar to the 3rd setting but with just one stone, also similar to @Squiz81.

When my Nana died all her grandchildren got £100, her birthstone was garnet so I had that stone. It was under the £100 but this wa 20+ years ago.

I've worn it everyday since, I'll try a photo.
