Fairfax and Favor- is it me or is it twee?

Does anyone else find the branding around this company cringe-inducing? All this fanning around pretending you own a country pile whilst dressed in Aunty Beryl's best driving loafers or pretending you have a stable of houses of which suede boots are a perfectly practical option Hmm

Their social media seems full of try-hards who are caked in fake tan posing outside some very ordinary houses/gardens.

Not sure why it irritates me so much- anyone else?

HORSES!

Not sure if 'twee' is the word, but yes it's for try-hard wannabe posh types.

BeenAsFarAsMercyAndGrand · 12/07/2021 14:39

It's definitely not practical attire for mucking out horses! Grin

LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 12/07/2021 14:42

Ugh, agree. Even the name radiates “faux posh”.

I don’t aspire to being posh anyway, but if I did, I still don’t think I would find this brand appealing.

Awarsewolf · 12/07/2021 14:43

Yes their customer of the month photos can really be very very cringe. Sadly they are very nice boots and shoes, my parents (especially my mum who does indeed have a horse but does not wear f&f for mucking out) love them!

PaulHollywoodsLowHangingFruit · 12/07/2021 14:43

I mean twee -in a sense of a grab bag of English upper class cliche refs. It seems like a bit of a pisstake really with all the puppies, Land rovers and champagne hampers as opposed to the reality of people who are buying into this.

Plus it's pretty frumpy really...

It strikes me as very Boden-esque of old.

They also only seen to make boots for women with no calf muscles, I'm not a horsey person but from what I remember from riding lesson you use your calf muscles quite a lot.

SalsaLove · 12/07/2021 14:51

I like their products and they do a fair bit for charity. They’re a proper English brand. However I can understand how they’re not everyone’s taste.

Eve · 12/07/2021 14:51

they are a Cheltenham races look, specially when paired with tweed skirt/ jacket and hat with pheasant feathers.

Wagsandclaws · 12/07/2021 15:02

They do make some nice boots, I know what you mean though they are a lifestyle brand and you need to 'buy' into it to get the look.

As loved by lots of 'rahs' at Burghley and Cheltenham. I've got horses and I own 3 pairs of their boots but certainly wouldn't muck out or ride in them. Actually the quality is good though!

Justonedayatatime11 · 12/07/2021 15:19

I love Fairfax and Favor in the sense that they make really beautiful products. However, I genuinely believe they're grossly overpriced, the Fairfax and Favor pages on Facebook are like a cult and very cliquey/bitchy and some (not all!) of their staff are appalling, stuck up, condescending arseholes. They do make gorgeous boots though Grin

Ireolu · 12/07/2021 15:32

Had never heard of the brand until I saw it on here a couple of months ago. I'm in my late 30s and I am a fan of handbags on general so I found this odd. I didn't like what I saw online was not even tempted to get the card out for something small, so I agree I am not their target audience.

CheerfulBunny · 12/07/2021 15:52

I'd never heard of them so just been to investigate and now I'm depressed. Pretty sure none of their boots would do up past my ankle Sad God, I wish I had 'racehorse' legs, mine are more shire horse.

FitYeDaeinYeMadRadge · 12/07/2021 16:01

I’m with you Cheerful, fellow shire here Grin I think I’d even have a job getting my little fat hoof in the foot bit.

Now if they did them in shire sizes, I’d invest.

CheerfulBunny · 12/07/2021 16:26

@FitYeDaeinYeMadRadge I should start a thread for the chunky of leg. Even when I was 20 odd and a size 8 I struggled to get long boots to fit. I am annoyingly muscular and exercise only makes it worse Hmm

I just like that effortlessy preppy, golden long limbed look. It's a bit Ralph Lauren I suppose, a fantasy Englishness that probably doesn't really exist.

dudsville · 12/07/2021 16:31

I don't know them so I'll have a Google, but it reminds me of Toast. I love the brand, but the adversitising of work dresses, hard wearing denim or thick durable cotton..... for £200-300+ pounds. Who's working the land in these dresses?

PaulHollywoodsLowHangingFruit · 12/07/2021 17:01

Toast is a bit wanky. Used to do great stuff - not so much anymore.

Wagsandclaws · 12/07/2021 17:56

For those chunky of calves they do a 'sporting fit' I've lost a few stone so have sold on my larger calf ones ( they do well on the second hand market ) and am now in the regular fit - I think they do narrow fit too.

They are very overpriced I agree, you can get beautiful Spanish riding boots for around the £100 mark which last for years, their handbags aren't that nice either but their boots do last.

The tassels are beyond naff.

Boood · 12/07/2021 19:46

I had to click on the tassels to see what you’re supposed to do with them, I assumed they were for sticking on your horse’s bridle. I’m still none the wiser about why you’d need to decorate your boot, though, and I usually love the classic preppy look.

WeirdArchitecture · 12/07/2021 21:34

It's pretty much Beckham wannabe cross with pungent, desperate Camembert.

Avoid.

I live in the lakes and it's everywhere, only sold, admittedly, to tourists.

WeirdArchitecture · 12/07/2021 21:35

I've never known one single individual with horses who would touch this crap.

KirstenBlest · 12/07/2021 21:49

I don't have any or the lifestyle to go with them but they look good.

DaisyRenton18 · 12/07/2021 22:25

I love my F&F stuff. Agree very little is actually suitable for use around the horses though.

I don't like every product and I don't buy into all the social media hype (although it's evident that their social media strategy is very effective!) or the ridiculous eBay prices for the tassels, which aren't really my thing. But I have a reasonable amount of stuff and all of it is nice quality, & the boots and shoes are incredibly comfortable. Sizing is bizarre though.

I think of them as generally quite a safe bet, as the core colours and styles tend to go with everything in my wardrobe (which I've no doubt some people do find frumpy or boring 😄).
