Fairfax and Favor- is it me or is it twee?

Does anyone else find the branding around this company cringe-inducing? All this fanning around pretending you own a country pile whilst dressed in Aunty Beryl's best driving loafers or pretending you have a stable of houses of which suede boots are a perfectly practical option Hmm

Their social media seems full of try-hards who are caked in fake tan posing outside some very ordinary houses/gardens.

Not sure why it irritates me so much- anyone else?

I have some boots and a bag. Classic looking, great for work (back in the day I went into my office), and good quality. The sycophantic, cliquey FB page is hilarious though - endless twee pics with fawning comments

Having looked on their website there is nothing I wouldn't buy. I love it all. They have great taste so I can see why they're so popular.

They're understated, appear very well made and interesting enough to want to own.

Insertdeadcatsnamehere · 13/07/2021 07:28

Just looked. Yeah, they're awful. I really want some fuschia espadrilles with a zebra on now though. £140!!!

Country chav

I think their marketing is on point as I went from horrified at the price of their products to buying some and wanting more but I don’t think the quality is what is used to be. The suede products start to fall apart quickly (within a couple of months despite the upmost care?!). You are no longer paying for quality but paying for the brand.

I’m annoyed at myself for spending so much money on products that don’t last.

Bluntness100 · 31/08/2021 17:08

I’ve a pair of the heeled Regina and they are beautifully made boots can’t lie about that. The branding and marketing doesn’t bother me, but the boots are very high quality and incredibly comfy.

I have a pair of these and they are super comfortable...And I love the 'naff' tassells, I match then to my coat, super chav-tastic grin
Wendsleydale · 31/08/2021 20:11

I've got the heeled Reginas. And several different coloured tassels to wear with them. I wanted the bright blue boots from a few years ago, but think they have discontinued them now. They are so comfy

Christmascheerful · 31/08/2021 20:22

I have the grey suede flat reginas I love them, wear them everywhere! Including the cattle market when I go with my farmer FIL and to be honest I have seen quite a few fellow F&F wearers there! Dont like the facebook page though. But cant deny the marketing has worked

DGFB · 31/08/2021 20:25

I’ve been looking for sheepskin lined boots and their Chelsea ones look perfect. I’ll report back!

WiggIyWoo · 31/08/2021 20:26

The pictures of long boots on their Insta look really dated to me - I'm surprised no one else has mentioned it (I don't think). Maybe I'm the out of fashion one though!

Justonedayatatime11 · 31/08/2021 20:36

I have way way way too many F&F products and was one of the crazy people queueing outside their shop Saturday morning for a limited edition handbag. They know how to draw people in... it's very cult like and the social media pages around the brand can get quite vicious. @DGFB if it's the Boudicas you're looking at, they are absolutely the best.

DGFB · 31/08/2021 20:42

It is, good, I look forward to trying them

yellowsofa · 31/08/2021 20:57

Great advertising! I'd never heard of them but have now seen lots I like for gifts and for myself.

LoganRoy · 31/08/2021 22:47

Did anyone see the Fairfax and Favor guy on Love in the Countryside? The BBC dating show with Sara Cox. I can’t remember if he was the founder or CEO or something.

JustALittleLessPain · 01/09/2021 07:33

I’d been looking for some suede loafers for a while when I came across their Henleys. They are so comfortable for my painful, aged feet, so I’m a convert now and will probably try the boots this autumn. I also really like some of their handbags and couldn’t resist. It’s the suede/pebble combo that I like.

When I purchased, I was sent a link to the FB group, which I lasted about an hour in. Wow, talk about a cult. I found all the fawning almost vomit-inducing and the tweed/fake tan “country” look is awfully over-constructed. I don’t get the tassel thing either - who’d want that flapping around? Works for the company though, I suppose.

LizziesTwin · 01/09/2021 07:38

I just saw a photo on IG of a lovely pair of emerald green heeled Reginas worn over skinny jeans. Looked fab, not fashiony at all though.

Divebar2021 · 01/09/2021 07:46

I’ve never even heard of them.

Wendsleydale · 01/09/2021 12:52

I first saw them at a horse show about ten years ago.

shannonlavinia · 04/10/2021 14:40

I was fooled by their social media presence and numerous 5 star reviews on their website, even talk from friends saying how quality their footwear is. I looked forward to buying what I thought were quality leather tassel boots only to realise they were poorly made (bottom of sole started to peel off after 3 wears) had them replaced and they continue to rub my heels terribly even after 'giving'.

Annoyingly I had been viewing the PC Tassel boots at the time of purchase and made the mistake of choosing F&F. After trying to find evidence online of people who had the same issues, it's clear F&F make a conscious effort to hide true reviews and reports on social media regarding MOST of their footwear rubbing.

A friend of mine also had a bad experience ordering some ankle boots from them, steer clear.

EllaPaella · 04/10/2021 22:54

I think they look like what Joules were 15 years ago. The 'preppy' look - trying to make a statement about living in the countryside and having lots of money.
The tassels are indeed as naff as naff can be. Not my cup of tea at all but I guess if you like that the preppy look it probably ticks a lot of boxes.
