Following Sts Trinny and Susannah urging us all, a few weeks ago, to go and get measured for bra properly and telling us that some ridiculous percentage of us are in the wrong size I decided to do just that.

Didn't think I was that wrong in my size but I went in wearing a 34B bra and came out with..........

wait for it!............

.......30DD!!!!!!!

OMG! GO and get measured now if you haven't already! I went to Selfridges and the woman was fabbo - no tape measure used either.

Be warned though, you could, like me, find yourself in a size that's much harder to get!

Ended up spending more on bras than I ever have in my life - M&S is no longer my best bra friend (in fact it's crappola cos only one range starts at 30). Selfridges here I come!!!

And when you've done it, let's all post on a thread the change in size that we find!

Well, I did the same thing the other day and came out with 32FF. I was wearing a 34E before, so I was under no illusions that I had small boobs, but STILL!!!!!!!

JenT · 22/11/2007 18:10

I found the same a few years ago when I went to bravissimo. went in wearing (recently measured) M&S 34D and came out of bravissimo wearing a 32F
Post pregnancy have ended up with 30G M&S not helpful atall for these sizes!

pooka · 22/11/2007 18:12

Before I went and was measured (about 6 months ago) thought was 38B. Or 36B at a push.
Am now....... drum roll.....

32DD or 32D depending on the bra (freya/warner)

Piffle · 22/11/2007 18:12

Ha ha
I was wearing 36EE
Came out 32HH..
Sometimes you are better off not knowing the truth...

Elphaba · 22/11/2007 18:13

Blimey - it's frightening isn't it?! My old bras are all going in the bin tonight which, so far, leaves me with 3 bras that fit! Ha ha!

I have to say that my boobs actually look smaller now I am wearing the correct size.

Remember that the smaller the back size, the smaller the cup size Piffle.

lissielewzealand · 22/11/2007 18:19

went in thinking i was a 34a, turns out im a 34d

boabsmum · 22/11/2007 18:20

I "was" a 36 DD and went to Bravissimo. Now a 32G and dh is very happy

Twitmonster · 22/11/2007 18:21

welcome to my world. the only time I ever bought a bra from m&s was the very first time. [aged 9 or 10]

HappyDaddy · 22/11/2007 18:22

As a bloke, can I ask how can sizes differ so wildly from shop to the next?

I know how the sizes are measured, just how they can be so different on one person.

OliviaMumsnet · 22/11/2007 18:22

How did she measure you without a tape measure?!

Twitmonster · 22/11/2007 18:24

I hope she rubbed her hands together to warm them up

Sheherazadethegoat · 22/11/2007 18:25

i am a 30e, i get bras off ebay which is alittle risky but i generally stick to freya bras and the shape i know fits. it is bloody hard to get 30 e so you have my sympathy. lovely having right size bra though.

Olivia M&S seem to be the only place I have encountered that use a tapemeasure.. all the other times I have been fitted they have used the bras as their guide.... they have a good idea to start with then it is a case of trying different ones on for fit.. manufacturers don't seem to have a universal size guide!

vacua · 22/11/2007 18:31

figleaves.com innit

filthymindedvixen · 22/11/2007 18:31

so if the smaller the back size, the smaller the cup size, what happens if, like me, you have a very broad back and no tits? The only bra which ever fitted me almost perfectly was a 38A which are almost impossible to find.

Elphaba · 22/11/2007 18:32

They just look at your boobs and seem to know!

One of the ones I got was Freya - at least now I know I can just go for that make and it will fit. Also got one by Fauve.

I'm not bothered about showing my boobs to a fitting lady! She's seen all sorts I'm sure!

pirratePiggy · 22/11/2007 18:37

filthy, are you def stil a 38 a?

If you can bear to wear your bra tighter, ( and almost al of us could do with this) a 36B, would be the equivalent in cup size, but just smaller round the band.

most women end up in bras too big round their ribs.

filthymindedvixen · 22/11/2007 18:39

36 hurts and I really don't have enough norkage to fill a b-cup...

Twitmonster · 22/11/2007 18:40

yes this is true, I ended up being a 28 f, which believe me is impossible so I always had to round up and buy [if I could] a 30 e.
