Following Sts Trinny and Susannah urging us all, a few weeks ago, to go and get measured for bra properly and telling us that some ridiculous percentage of us are in the wrong size I decided to do just that.

Didn't think I was that wrong in my size but I went in wearing a 34B bra and came out with..........

wait for it!............

.......30DD!!!!!!!

OMG! GO and get measured now if you haven't already! I went to Selfridges and the woman was fabbo - no tape measure used either.

Be warned though, you could, like me, find yourself in a size that's much harder to get!

Ended up spending more on bras than I ever have in my life - M&S is no longer my best bra friend (in fact it's crappola cos only one range starts at 30). Selfridges here I come!!!

filthymindedv, there seem to be quite a few on the figleaves website.

I tredi on a few bras today, am a 34, in Fantasie bras, but in one of the Debenhams bras i was a 36!!

Oh and another thing ladies. If you find a style in white, and you decide to getone in black, beware, black bras often feel tighter becuase of the dying process. It shrinks them!!!

dinny · 22/11/2007 18:50

surely they only measure you some weird size so you spend loads on bras in their shops as you can no longer buy sizes from M&S?

filthymindedvixen · 22/11/2007 18:52

thanks piratepiggy. I will resolve to go and get myself measured (and give some well-rounded shelf-bosomed matron a good laugh )

BroccoliSpears · 22/11/2007 18:57

I've always been a 34C. Went up in norkage during my last pregnancy and went to get properly measured by the maternity lady in Mothercare. She measured me as a 38A. Was not impressed as was spilling out of a C cup at the time.

Have also been measured as (non pregnant) 34D at Debenhams.

I'm quite sure I don't wear the right size but I dispair of ever getting it right because I don't have big enough boobs to go to a magic 'measure by looking at you' shop.

pirratePiggy · 22/11/2007 18:58

filthy what's your under bust measurement?

oh M + S, just don't fit them properly, they have lots of sizes in there, they just can't successfuly adhere them to the women who go it for fitting.

i was told ( after having worked in Rigby and peller) by the woman in there I was a 40a. bur i am a 34e.

it goes like this.

40a--what woman said
38b
36c
34d
this is where i am a 34e tho.

so she was basically saying that that my boob would fit in that cup--yes cos allthe above are exactley the same cup size, but the bandwidth alters.

Flamesparrow · 22/11/2007 18:59

Tis good - I went from being a 36E to a 32F I think I am now more of a 32E though which looks tiny to me

pirratePiggy · 22/11/2007 19:01

brocoli, you can have any size boobs to go to a 'just looking at you shop' i used to work in the sort of founder shop of this method, called Rigby and peller, and we saw ladies of all sizes.

If you are a 34 d, thats a lovely size for choice etc...

If you can afford it, the cheapest, yet 'best' bra imo, is the Fantasie Bra, or Freya.

dd666 · 22/11/2007 19:02

please dont bin your old bras take them to a cancer research shop or a charity shop of your choice!

filthymindedvixen · 22/11/2007 19:04

Have measured under the bust - 36"

pirratePiggy · 22/11/2007 19:07

filthym in that case, if you can find a comfortable 36, as opposed to a 38, you might have more choice.

Like I said, like jeans, tops, anything, you can be a standard, but different styles, makes will vary.

Yo may just find a 36B more comfy too, more support.

pirratePiggy · 22/11/2007 19:08

flame why do you think you have gone down a cup size, if you say it looks tiny??

Flamesparrow · 22/11/2007 19:58

It only looks tiny to me, friends assure me they don't look tiny really..

My bras a slightly baggy on the cup, I lost a lot of weight which is why I have shrunk.

R&P trip happening at easter

Maidamess · 22/11/2007 20:11

I was wearing a 38B. Got measured, am actually a 34D.

LoveAngelGabriel · 22/11/2007 21:26

I went in in a 34B a few years ago and came out wearing a 36D. I think I was trapped in a time warp, where I was still a lithe teenager with perky little tits.

LoveAngelGabriel · 22/11/2007 21:29

p.s. I was measured at John Lewis by a very nice but strict old lady who took one look at my bra, tutted and said 'Oh no, dear, that bras far too small for you' and whipped out her tape measure to measure me while whistling ...was very funny. I felt like saying 'Suits you, Sir...I mean, Madam^'

pirratePiggy · 23/11/2007 08:02

maidamess,

so your boobwas actaully in the right size cup, as you say you were fitting into a
38B, but the back was too big. and so it goes
36c
34d

go down in the back up, in the cup, and vice versa.

bigspender30 · 27/11/2007 12:44

help me ladies as I am confused! I measure 32 under my bust and 38 round my bust. The online calculater says I should be wearing a 34DD which I think is utter crap and another site says to add 4 inches on. I have no clue! Anyone help or do I have to visit bravissimo?

susiemj · 27/11/2007 17:11

I've found online calculators no help at all. Selfridges were brilliant. She hardly needed to measure me with a tape. She put her hand across my back, then over my boob and I went to a 32D from a 36B (which I was told in M+S grrrrrr)

Shortly afterwards got PG - given up on measuring! Gone for S,M,L approach. Will my lovely 32D bras ever fit me again? (was my wedding/honeymoon lingerie - which worked as was PG after about 6 days!)

bossykate · 27/11/2007 17:16

yup, i went to jl recently as a b cup and came out a dd!

bossykate · 27/11/2007 17:17

or was it f? can't check as am sitting at my desk.

DaisyNightingale · 27/11/2007 17:23

i went from 38C to 34F....I really was sadly unaware of my ill fitting bras.

I felt like I'd had a boob job though, it was fantastic.

DaisyNightingale · 27/11/2007 17:25

bigspender, I used to go for the add 4 inches on rule as well and always had bras that rode up at the back and shoulder straps that fell off.

34DD sounds about right, but do go and get measured somewhere reputable (ie NOT M&S)

susiemj · 27/11/2007 17:29

I think that's it Daisynightingale. You know you've been fitted properly when you feel fabulous in your new bra.

redpanda · 27/11/2007 17:34

Another 38B to 34D (or 34DD) here after a R&P trip.
I have never heard the "go down in the back and up in the cup" thing before!

LuckySalem · 27/11/2007 17:46

The first and only time I got measured I went in thinking I was a 34B came out a 40G!!

I need to go get fitted again now though as am preg and planning to bf. Will get fitted after the birth although did just buy a nursing bra from ebay at 40E and seems ok.
