Search for the holy grail - jeans that don’t gape at the back.

I have tried. But so far haven’t found any jeans that don’t gape at the back at the waist. I’m an hourglass shape and my back curves in above my bum. Im also 5‘ so I’m limited to petite ranges and even some of those are still too long. Every pair I own seems to do this and I belt them to try create a better line. Does anyone have the same thing going on and have found any flattering jeans that don’t gape?

Yes, and unfortunately no!

Following in hope that someone else can help…

coogee · 28/06/2021 14:55

Low rise?

Hard to find but they don't gape.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 28/06/2021 14:56

I've never found any that don't gape so I just wear them with a belt.

Literarydevice · 28/06/2021 14:57

cogee. Im too pudgy these days for lowrise.

I've always had those problem but the new (ish) high waist , wide leg jeans solve it completely and are much more flattering for our shape. I got some from M&S after seeing a post on here

Salanda · 28/06/2021 15:01

I have the same problem as I have a small waist and bigger bum/thighs (cycling Grin). I agree with @Backhills that the higher waist and wider leg styles are easier - also ‘Mom’ jeans. I’m tall though so don’t have any specific recommendations for petite styles.

PawsQueen · 28/06/2021 15:05

Next hypercurve but they've got rid of them
There's a few in the clearance section if you click clearance then search hypercurve
Tesco contour aren't bad either

thedevilinablackdress · 28/06/2021 15:29

Mom Jean styles can be good for this as they have a hip-waist ratio that suits the body shape that causes this gaping. Otherwise belts, or get them tailored.

pinkgin85 · 28/06/2021 16:00

Asos have a new range of "hourglass" jeans and they come in petite sizes. I'm also 5ft and a bit curvy and I got a pair and liked it!

LivingDeadGirlUK · 28/06/2021 17:09

Levi bold curve jeans fit really well but are expensive. Agree that the wide leg styles are better fits than skinny/straight leg.

Verbena87 · 28/06/2021 17:20

Get them altered or learn to do it yourself - you remove the waistband, take a triangular wedge out of the centre back seam, shorten the waistband and reattach it: it’s magic.

Levi's ribcage straight leg. I bought the size of my actual waist which is where the waist band sits, and they fit well over my bum and hips which are 14 inches bigger.

Defiantly41 · 28/06/2021 23:58

I've been wearing these, they fit really well www.mintvelvet.co.uk/product/monroe-indigo-wide-leg-jeans/30778

I have a 14" difference between waist and hip

I'm 5'2" with short legs, the short length is good with small heels and a fraction long with trainers

Literarydevice · 29/06/2021 00:27

pinkgin and defiantly41. Thanks i will definitely take a look at these. Also going to check out Levi’s. The store In our city centre has closed which is a shame .

I forgot to ask if mint velvet are true to size? I’ve not tried anything of theirs. Those jeans are lovely Defiantly41

I’ve had some success at M and S but the particular style that fitted they no longer do (relaxed slim) but they have loads of styles and have a good rep.

I look at the reviews and if there are lots saying the waist is too small, I give them a go.

Literarydevice · 29/06/2021 01:04

Thanks Deux“. I’ll check M&S too.

The "Holy Grail" - how insulting

Cluckycluck · 29/06/2021 07:26

Levi ribcage are great but I find they come up small and long. I tend to find that all levis in a short length are still too long for me at 5'2"

Abercrombie curve love range is great as it is bigger on the bum/hips/thighs. I have some of the skinnies and cropped wide leg. Short length is much better than Levis.

youshouldbeplotting · 29/06/2021 07:32

These are mid rise and don't gape. You have to size down with them.

Defiantly41 · 29/06/2021 08:09

Yes I'd say they are true to size. I'm very tempted by the pink ones!

Bromeliad · 29/06/2021 08:14

I have a similar problem with a sway back, I agree with everyone else - Levi's are the only ones I've found that don't gape. I used to live in the Netherlands and cycle everywhere, Levi's we're the only jeans which didn't slide down my bum as i went!

I like the 712 slim at the minute. Their waist and length sizes do vary slightly though. I've got everything from a 27 waist 32 leg to a 29 waist 30 leg -weird!

Divebar2021 · 29/06/2021 08:36

Find a good seamstress and all your problems with fit can be solved. Hems shortened and waists taken in.

Literarydevice · 29/06/2021 09:28

Thanks so much everyone. I’m going to order the mint velvet and fatface ones to start with and if they’re not ok try ASOS and Levi.

Divebar. I will see how much it would be to get someone to take jeans in at the waist.
