Search for the holy grail - jeans that don’t gape at the back.

I have tried. But so far haven’t found any jeans that don’t gape at the back at the waist. I’m an hourglass shape and my back curves in above my bum. Im also 5‘ so I’m limited to petite ranges and even some of those are still too long. Every pair I own seems to do this and I belt them to try create a better line. Does anyone have the same thing going on and have found any flattering jeans that don’t gape?

asos hourglass
hollister, american eagle, free people all do curvy ranges.

I had a pair taken it at the waist once but found they then didn't fit over my hips without a huge struggle as the zip didn't go low enough, wouldn't bother again

bingoitsadingo · 29/06/2021 13:06

I would recommend buying a curvy pair and having them taken up if theyre too short, over taking a straight cut pair in at the waist.

JessicaYardley. What’s insulting about saying holy grail? Is it not ok to use these days?

Do you like wide leg jeans?
I've just bought these so I can go back to the 70s Grin
They have hidden elastic in the back of the waistband. It's very clever, you can't see it
Its the first pair I've had that stay up and don't gape
I wish there were more with this type of waist

Mark's and Spencer, ivy skinny jeans

Beetlewing · 29/06/2021 18:25

I just sew two darts down the back.

Literarydevice · 29/06/2021 19:28

whoneedsamanoftheworld theyre great. I have gone from skinnies to straight or slight flare but think wide legs would make me look short and squat as I'm only 5' and my thighs and hips are my widest part.

You can hand sew two darts down from the waistline to the top of the pockets. I do this for DD who's slim and has a small wait , it makes them fit her perfectly

Kranz78 · 29/06/2021 20:53

Ruth Langsford's jeans and trousers from QVC doesn't gape. You can order and try them for 30 days too :)

Literarydevice · 30/06/2021 11:14

Thanks kranz. I will check those out.

@Verbena87 is correct, you need them altered.

If your back curves inwards you’ve got a lordosis. It won’t harm you but it makes jeans a pita.

I wear mid rise or everything gapes. I’ve got a lordosis too.

waitingforsun · 30/06/2021 20:54

ASOS Farleigh. Try the hourglass and the non-hourglass styles. Get them a bit tight as they give with wear to the perfect fit 😁

Literarydevice · 01/07/2021 18:11

waitingforthesun. I’ve ordered the Farleighs in hourglass and normal fit and in a few sizes as Im unsure after reading the reviews what the fit is like. Also ordered 3 other styles of ASOS petite jeans and am hoping one comes good. I’ll then move on to some of the other recommendations. I wish I could sew but I can just about replace a button and take up a hem and that’s it.

Have a look at Everlane Cheeky jeans. Haven’t tried myself but been tempted as they have loads of reviews saying “finally no waist gap”

minipie · 01/07/2021 18:15

My back doesn’t curve inwards, I just have a small waist and a large bum and thighs.

Ohnoohnoohnonononono · 01/07/2021 18:17

NYDJ have been the best fit for me re gaping at the back.

Stretchy and they do petite. I love mine.

thereisnophalange · 01/07/2021 18:22

H&M high waist ankle jeans. Only £17.99 and hands down the best pair of jeans I've ever bought...and I've bought A LOT! (circa 50 pairs 🙈)

Hathertonhariden · 01/07/2021 18:27
Definitely Land's End petite. I'm your height with your gaping problem and these have been amazing. These are the only jeans I don't wear a belt with and haven't had to take up.
VerySmallPears · 01/07/2021 18:31

Next enhancer jeans don’t gape on me, the waist is high and the fit is good.

Are Levi doing Bold curve again, last time I asked in the store, admittedly a few years ago, they'd discontinued them, I loved the bold curve.

I have a pair from Fat Face that i like, but they seem to change their cut every season. Having elastic in them seems to help but then they don't wear as well.

Literarydevice · 02/07/2021 17:49

My ASOS order came today. The petite hourglass highrise farleigh jeans are perfect. No gape at back and perfect length (got the 28“).

Also the ASOS design petite highrise 70s stretch flare are great too.

Thanks for the recommendations.

Apparently discontinued some time ago Blush I loved mine and wish I still fit in them.
