What foundation do you use?

I’ve been using Clinique Superpowder double powder in matte beige for years but I think I’m falling out of love with it.
I’m 41 and find it’s started to slip off my face by mid-afternoon and I look really shiny.
I’ve always used powders as I’m not keen on the feeling of thick liquid foundation but I feel like I might be missing a trick.
Please share with me your favourites.

I think it's just that mask-like look it gives. Even the good ones you can tell it's there. I agree however that if you are able to wear a luminous one it probably helps. I have oily skin so can't wear those

A good foundation doesn't look like a mask. You must be looking at the wrong sorts :)

I can't see how concealer doesn't look like a mask- it's thick and like paste.

Good foundation looks like better skin.

Estee Lauder Double Wear.

Tried everything else going (well almost everything Wink) and keep going back to it while grumbling about the price .

If you want it sheerer just put less on

@tappitytaptap

Ooh good thread. I use Estée Lauder doublewear but as I’ve improved my skin care routine and am getting a bit older (36) find it a bit too heavy. I saw Sali Hughes recommend no 7 hydra luminous recently - anyone used it?
Exactly my story, I was devoted to doublewear but have seen the light and am now loving hydra luminous!!
Holly60 · 20/06/2021 20:44

@Undersnatch

I’ve never used foundation, aged 39. Does it help?! Not a goady question, honestly, I don’t really understand what it does, when I’ve noticed it on others it looks bad but I guess when it’s done well you don’t notice it? Does it help with lines?
If done cleverly it can help with lines. It is good for creating even skin tone, creating a lovely base for other make-up and creating a healthy looking glow (if you get the right one) I’m in my sixties with decent skin and I wouldn’t be without it. I use CT. if you notice someone is wearing foundation, it’s because they’ve done it wrong.

Double wear all the way- tried everything else and always come back to it 🥰

Littleguggi · 20/06/2021 21:07

I'm using CHANEL
Les Beiges Water-Fresh Tint, love it because it's so light and it doesn't feel like I am wearing anything but at the same time gives me an even tone

Littleguggi · 20/06/2021 21:08

Has anyone used Pat Mcgrath foundation? Recently tried a tester and loved it!

Kjr33 · 20/06/2021 21:35

Glossier skin tint, I don’t like the feeling of wearing foundation and always stuck to powders in the past but started to hate it creasing and stuff, the skin tint feels more like a skincare product which I really like and gives just a bit of coverage which I can build over my red cheeks. I have ordered a similar serum one from tarte which I am looking forward to receiving as I think it will have slightly higher coverage. I think op might want to look into good primers and setting sprays too which can totally transform how a foundation sits.

Ooh yes I love this one.

NO 7 hydroluminous is good for more coverage

I really want to but can't fine an online shade matcher.
Vicliz24 · 20/06/2021 22:12

I don't use foundation but I love IT Cosmetics Cc cream and I love it .

WellTidy · 20/06/2021 22:17

Chantecaille gel foundation is the bees knees but it is £60ish and it’s a step too far for me

Clinique even better foundation is great for my dry skin, medium coverage but very lightweight and it evens my skin out really well

Estée Lauder double wear light too, the double wear is way way too cakey on me

I am going to try no. 7 hydra luminous next, I see it recommended on here all the time for my skin type (dry, looking for medium coverage but a lightweight look)

citygirl1961 · 20/06/2021 23:11

@goodjoujou

HydraLuminous Moisturising Foundation is brilliant-lovely consistency not to heavy nor too light. I have some pigmentation and it has great coverage too. For a nice glow I mix in a blob of their Custom Blend Highlighting Drops in rose gold. I used Mac studio for years but found it didn’t suit my skin as it got dryer in my 40’s.
Hi, which shade of Hydraluminous foundation do you use with the rose gold drops? Just wondering as my shade is cool ivory. Do you need to use blusher with those drops too?
Frolickingfoam · 21/06/2021 10:56

I really would be interested in hearing any recommendations for light coverage foundations/tints that will not leave me looking shiny. Virtually everything does!

Powders often look too powdery though...

The fact I have pale skin also doesn't help because it is very hard for me to find the right shade that doesn't look obvious on my skin.

66babe · 21/06/2021 16:12

@Frolickingfoam intelligent foundation No 7 i think is the step down from hydra luminous
I love it ... no shine , evens out skin tone , no cake , very light
And only 3 shades so the no7 ladies will help you choose and prob give you a sample in a wee pot!

LeSquigh · 21/06/2021 16:38

EL Double Wear here too. I resisted for years due to the price but I wish I had tried it earlier. It’s also the first time a foundation has really matched my pale skin tone.

HeraInTheHereAndNow · 21/06/2021 21:31

I tried the No7 HydraLuminous and found it drying and not flattering.

I use Revlon Colourstay for DRY skin. Lovely. Before that I was all over No7 Protect and Perfect Foundation with 50spf

LadyLolaRuben · 21/06/2021 21:33

I dont. I use a little bit of St Tropez fake tan every day and put make up over when dry. Gives me a steady colour and my make up stays on fine

LCDIT · 21/06/2021 21:35

Boots Natural Collection. Cheap and cheerful but great quality. Not too thick but gives adequate coverage. As good as more expensive foundations. Have used others, but always come back to this one.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/06/2021 21:51

It was hideous on me, weird colour and aged me shockingly.

HeraInTheHereAndNow · 21/06/2021 22:20

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor … it truly was awful but I thought it was because I’m pretty old! The SA suggested Revlon for Dry skin and it’s wonderful. I would never have thought to try it.

Anniissa · 21/06/2021 22:33

Chanel Vita Lumiere is the best I’ve ever found. Definitely not aging and just glides on my skin. I’ve previously tried EL double wear but found it too heavy and a bit drying.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/06/2021 22:39

@HeraInTheHereAndNow I have used Colourstay in the past, it's brilliant but DW is such a good shade for me it just pips it to the post.

jobsagudden · 21/06/2021 23:02

I use smash box but I'm in the market for a new foundation so following with interest!
