I'm totally stuck in a rut. Jeans every day. Jeans and t-shirt or jeans and a jumper. Oh if I'm really feeling low maintenance its lululemon leggings all day Shock.
I really want to improve my style and get some other options on rotation, rather than just denim.
Thoughts? Inspiration? Links to something would be great....
45, size 8, and 5ft 4"

Ah, go on! If you can find your way to lululemon you can open the Matches Fashion or Net-a-Porter websites! Not to speak of Studio Nicholson, Toast, Arket, & Other Stories, and a million others.

If you're desperate for human inspiration try That's Not My Age.

XingMing · 04/06/2021 16:59

At 20 years older than you, I still wear jeans most days... but they're not always blue or black. White, red, ecru and several shades of grey to ring the changes.

SoTiredNeedHoliday · 05/06/2021 16:29

hoping for some more inspiration. I just can't visualize.....

I’m in a similar rut OP, but if I wear anything but jeans and a top I don’t feel like me, I’ve always been a jeans girl but need to venture further afield (whilst keeping my style) do you have Pinterest? I have a Pinterest board full of inspiration l, just need to feel a bit brave. Smile

XingMing · 05/06/2021 20:34

Wearing jeans for most of your life isn't your problem. Jeans are wonderful. But you may need to buy better jeans, rather than standard supermarket fare. I wear jeans almost everyday of my life, for everything I do from walking the dog to quite smart, in winter and summer. Find the make that fits and flatters, even if it means trying on a lot before you decide.

SoTiredNeedHoliday · 06/06/2021 06:25

@XingMing thank you, we sound quite similar. I'm just ready to look a bit more exciting, & more interesting.
Jeans every day is one style no matter what the cost..... ps I haven't worn non-designer jeans since I was a kid, not that it matters one tiny bit.

I'd wear Aldi jeans if they are the ones that suit me best. Price doesn't always equal style or even quality.

@SallyCinnabon your idea of a pintrest board is a good one, perhaps I should start with that and then gradually move into buying a few pieces and go from there

PersonaNonGarter · 06/06/2021 06:32

Who makes your current favourite jeans, OP? Maybe see what trousers they have in a similar cut.

FindingMeno · 06/06/2021 06:32

Leggings and a cardi are your friend Wink
Seriously, don't move on from jeans because of age, but its different if you're bored of them.
Bootcut trousers, skirts, dresses, so much out there. And so much more stuff with pockets too to cover the practicality aspect!
I never wear jeans.

SoTiredNeedHoliday · 06/06/2021 07:07

AG jeans, paige, J brand. Not moving on because of age, just want to look a bit more together and stylish. Jeans some days and new options the rest of the time.... just don't know what the new options will be

PersonaNonGarter · 06/06/2021 07:10

OP come on now. Just get some other coloured trousers?

TheFunBus · 06/06/2021 07:12

Do you like dresses? I was a jeans every day person and then forced myself to buy a few dresses (some long, some shorter) and now around half a week I throw a dress on instead.

TheFunBus · 06/06/2021 07:12

Dresses are as easy as jeans as you can just throw them on, especially in the summer

nordica · 06/06/2021 07:26

What kind of tops are you wearing? Colourful, plain, dark, fitted? Trying to get a sense of your style to suggest some shops and items you might like.

Snorkelface · 06/06/2021 07:28

I weaned myself off wearing jeans every day with straight or slim leg ankle grazers in the summer, not in denim. Easy to dress up or down. Suddenly existing tops and shoes look completely different!

eurochick · 06/06/2021 07:31

I'm the same age as you and also in a bit of a jeans every day rut since wfh. I used to mostly wear smart dresses to the office. I've just ordered a lost of long dresses but none of them were great so I'm sending most back. I think I'll keep one but I'm a bit concerned it makes me look like a toilet roll dolly...

thedevilinablackdress · 06/06/2021 08:35

Here are some shops/brands I like or would like to try. Does anything catch your eye?
Toast, Cos, Masai, Oska, Finisterre, Community Clothing, Seasalt, Linen Fox.
Non-jeans wise, I like wearing heavy weight linen or cotto trousers, shirt dresses, tunics and leggings, cords, midi skirts and boxy tops .

thedevilinablackdress · 06/06/2021 08:52

(forgot to add) you may like no-one the things I like, but that gives us something to go on.

thedevilinablackdress · 06/06/2021 08:53

*none of

EmmaStone · 06/06/2021 09:28

It's about lifestyle as well though isn't it? I have a few day dresses, which are lovely, but I live rurally, and like to frequently go out for walks. I also exercise regularly. I can end up changing my clothes 3/4 times a day. Wearing jeans means I can at least walk and work in the same clothes. Maybe a different shape of jeans would help as well?

Floisme · 06/06/2021 11:48

I understand feeling in a rut. At the moment I wear mostly trousers but not jeans so much (partly because I prefer deeper pockets) and I get my variety by switching between styles - narrow leg, barrel leg, wide leg and I'm teetering on the edge of flares again. I look mainly at Cos, Toast and when I can get it, second hand Margaret Howell. The Uniqlo +J range recently had some good ones too.

Do you mostly wear the same jeans shape because I can't remember there ever being more choice than there is at the moment? M&S has a really good range of styles, all under £30 or £40 if you want to experiment without breaking the bank. I imagine H&M does too although I haven't looked there in ages.

If you need ideas, I get most of mine just by watching people. There's a riot of styles and colours out there at the moment. I don't live anywhere particularly fashionable but people are dressing up to go our for coffee or even walk the dog, and nobody's photoshopped or furtively trying to sell you stuff. For everyday inspiration I also like the 'What I'm wearing today' threads.

I wear mostly trousers every day & this spring/ summer I got rid of all my skinny jeans as I was v tired of them

I bought 2 new pairs of jeans non skinny styles. One dark indigo, one mid blue. They have interesting shapes which I'm really enjoying wearing. I'm also leaning towards a pair of flares next

I also have 4 jumpsuits. 3 are for daily wear & 1 is v dressy.

I have cropped wide legged coulottes fron whistles, they're heavy jersey & I bought them last summer & I've worn them lots even in winter with boots & I have gorgeous navy Italian pair which I also wear a lot but only in summer

I have lovely jigsaw straightlegged chinos in a dark green which I wear to work with a silk shirt sometimes.

I'm waiting on olive green paperbag style summer trousers to arrive & I'm hoping they'll be a good addition to the rest of my wardrobe

I have several beautiful dresses but I tend to keep them for going out wear

SoTiredNeedHoliday · 06/06/2021 13:08

@UnreasonablyPissedOff where do you get your jumpsuits from?

@Snorkelface where did you get your ankle grazers from?

OP posts:
UnreasonablyPissedOff · 06/06/2021 19:30

@SoTiredNeedHoliday 3 are from Whistles, a black linen one with buttons up the front, an indigo short sleeved one & a black dressy one
The 4th is a denim one from GAP
