What is the deal with wrap over dresses?!

Not a humble brag for having huge boobs or anything, I’m a 34C, but no matter what wrapover dresses just don’t fit me!?

No idea what I’m doing wrong. It’s always hugely unflattering around my waist and hips but doesn’t cover my bra once wrapped... what is the deal?!

I always have to wear a vest underneath

OppsUpsSide · 27/04/2021 17:46

I don’t know I can’t get on with them either

MaidEdithofAragon · 27/04/2021 17:47

Yep vest always, I am chunky in the chest and it does minimise though.

Ariannah · 27/04/2021 17:48

My boobs are very high on my chest so anything like a wrap dress or scoop neck top doesn’t cover my bra. Whereas if someone whose boobs were lower on her rib cage wore the same clothes they would fit.

Fispi · 27/04/2021 18:36

I love a wrap dress! I'm a 32 FF and either have to wear a vest underneath, or alter them slightly with a hook and eye to stop them gaping. Its hit and miss depending on the cut of the dress.

MimosaFields · 27/04/2021 18:39

I'm a 32F and they are the best cut for me

Dozer · 27/04/2021 18:40

Shit design by the retailers.

SteveArnottsCodeine · 27/04/2021 18:41

36J here..... you need to wear a vest underneath!

JovialNickname · 27/04/2021 18:42

I always have to use a little safety pin at the top so as not to look indecent

Howshouldibehave · 27/04/2021 18:43

I have big boobs and love wrap dresses! You definitely have to wear a vest top underneath though!!

Intrusivedilemma · 27/04/2021 18:46

This was the dress I bought. Bloody gutted it looks terrible on me 🥲

I hate wrap dresses - I always have to put a pin in the skirt part as they blow open in the wind and show everyone my knickers otherwise 🙄

FindingMeno · 27/04/2021 19:07

I look shit in them, despite them being so universally recommended.
If I did wear one I'd use a safety pin or even sew on poppers if it would not look obvious.

thedevilinablackdress · 27/04/2021 19:07

Different clothes suit different bodies. Or a vest could be the answer. It often is IME.

CovidCorvid · 27/04/2021 19:09

I bought a special modesty panel which clips onto my bra for under wrap dresses

SingleHandSue · 27/04/2021 19:09

It’s probably your body shape more than your boob size.

I’m a size 14 with 32F boobs but wrap dresses rarely fit me properly because I’m quite small across my back and rib cage. I end up with extra material around my boobs and in front of my shoulders which makes it look like my boobs are too small for the dress.

I can fix some with an extra stitch but to be honest most don’t work for me.

M0rT · 27/04/2021 19:09

For a short wrap dress a slip is the answer...stops too much cleavage and knicker flashing!
It does depend where the waist is though, some will suit you and some look terrible and you can't tell till you put it on!

IrishGirl2020 · 27/04/2021 19:21

@M0rT

I did try a slip once - it was quite pretty with a little bit of lace edging but as I walked along a busy (windy!) street I overheard a girl saying to her boyfriend ‘it’s a slip’. I knew it was probably visible with the gusty wind blowing the dress open but didn’t think it would be so interesting that people would have a conversation about it 😳

Made me really paranoid and I never wore it again. Maybe I should have just bought a plain one 😂

UsedUpUsername · 27/04/2021 19:23

Well not all styles work for all people 🤷‍♀️

Borridge · 27/04/2021 19:23

I put a brooch to hold the dress together at the top.

Itsallhere · 27/04/2021 19:25

I love wrap dresses and they really work for my shape. I never wear a vest underneath as I think it totally ruins the look of the dress.
Some aren’t cut very well though and the v is too wide and deep although I’ve mainly found that with cheaper dresses

M0rT · 27/04/2021 19:26

@IrishGirl2020 no you should flaunt your pretty slip! Grin
When the very long false lashes first became a big thing I spent my time out answering my DHs questions on whether random girls eyelashes were real or not. Drove me batty!

OhTheTastyNuts · 27/04/2021 19:26

I'm really flat chested and they don't work for me either. You obviously need Goldilocks boobs...not too big, not too small!

Templetreebalm · 27/04/2021 19:27

Same here. They look dreadful !
TheBullfinch · 27/04/2021 19:28

Size up if you can.

They never allow enough material to cross over in the wrap, so they end up more like coats iyswim.

To be a true full wrap, the end needs to sit fully around each side of your body and be held by an internal tie.

Unless I but them really big though, theyre always unflattering on my hips and waist.
