Style dreams vs reality!

In my style dreams I'm well turned out in a good quality well fitting t-shirt top, lovely non faded dark jeans and beautiful tan leather ankle boots. I also have the coats and bags to match of course.
In reality I'm wearing a grey oversized top and cheap leggings from boo hoo. All finished off with a pair of black frilly polka dot ankle socks.
Are you in a style dreams vs reality situation or is it just me?

In my dreams I’m a Sweaty Betty brand ambassador, rocking the lux gym wear with clear skin and a bouncy ponytail.
The reality is a middle aged woman slobbing about in leggings, mismatched socks and scruffy hair.

Tomorrow I’m meeting a friend for coffee and a look round the charity shops
I’ll be wearing pastel pink trousers with a white top and pink/black ballet pumps
In my head I’ll look effortless and chic
In real life I know I’ll look like the 5th (sweaty) tellytubby

LivingDeadGirlUK · 21/04/2021 19:11

This is so true lol. In my mind I am channeling a kind of sexy grungy cool look like Amy from Dr Who, in reality I'm wearing a tracksuit like Rose :p

Also echoing PP regarding the workwear, my mind is all silk blouses and pencil skirts. Reality is whatever trousers actually fit and a long sleeved top because I can't get my buttons on my lovely silk blouses done up....

Greenvalleysightseeker · 21/04/2021 19:13

@DustyBlueHex Oh that is definitely me too! In my head everything works together but the mirror tells me otherwise.

KillingMeDeftly · 21/04/2021 19:29

I bought dungarees, thinking I’d wear them legs rolled up with sandals over a vest and look effortlessly summery.

I looked like I was about to break into a chorus of Come On Eileen.

JustGiveMeGin · 21/04/2021 20:40

The 5th sweaty tellytubby made me proper snort!

I too want to waft about in pretty floral tea dresses but resemble Ma Larkin from Darling Buds of May, its uncanny!

JustGiveMeGin · 22/04/2021 00:12

Oooh I love the tea dress look! Unfortunately it does seem to look nicer on slimmer figures, at my current weight I would look like a hippo playing dress up.
Ah well, once I lose this 2 stone I'm sure I'll have a style revolution Wink

In dreams I'd go for a Swedish architect look

Everything smooth and streamlined, light colours

In reality, I am dumpy and short. I find a pale shoe with a dark jean makes me look odd. I'm the wrong shape for pale colours.

I don't like wearing a bra and infinity scarves cover that. Jewellery is getting on my nerves - peri? - so I end up with prints to add ...something. Long cardis to cover bum.

I have two lovely silk shirts that no longer fit me but in reality, when they did fit, I barely wore them because I couldn't be arsed ironing them.

I read this board and wonder if posters look fab all the time. I sure don't!

ChakaDakotaRegina · 23/04/2021 04:24

I’d love to wear floppy floral dresses but I look like a sisterwife from Utah.

I’d love to do ‘expensive thrown together relaxed beach chic from LA’ but always look somehow unkempt, hot and ruddy with flat hair.

I’m actually quite good at ‘Brit in a nice coat scarf and boots’ so will stick with it.

Mumsnut · 23/04/2021 07:46

I did
Manage some wide-legged jeans for the school run, but was back in joggers within seconds of getting home

LivingDeadGirlUK · 23/04/2021 08:41

I tried really hard today to not just put jeans and a t-shirt on, but failed. The flap of getting everyone ready for the day was too much.

Sorry not sorry to be that poster - but I don't see why being middle aged should preclude SW brand ambassador eligibility. Surely the point of all this fitness gear is to actually maintain fitness all through life?

Why is reaching middle age something to be ashamed of, or mocked? Personally I don't prefer the alternative ...

MayIDestroyYou · 23/04/2021 09:12

(Oh how much better that would have been if I'd managed to hit B rather W. They're not even close together. So probably my phone's fault.)

JustGiveMeGin · 23/04/2021 09:35

I wore more structured leggings with a gold zip at the bottom and a fitted striped breton top last night to work! I feel this was a step in the right direction even though only the three people I care for saw meGrin
I can't help but feel like it may be a long slog before I get my full style mojo back (if I ever do!), I've got a night out in May so I hope I can get my act together before then.

I have an Olivia Pope coat. Thought it looked fab but DC asked me why I was wearing a dressing gown!

But that's nothing compared to the time I tried on a cape and thought I looked so chic, until DP said it looked like something Theresa May would wear 🤦🏻‍♀️

JustGiveMeGin · 23/04/2021 13:33

Oh wow @ShangPie that thread is hilarious, the poster that said she 'looked like a weeble going to a funeral ' made me piggy snortGrin
