Anyone else buy multiple dupes and should just buy the actual product?

I’ve almost run out of my favourite tinted moisturiser/cc cream and it’s been out of stock for ages. So in the interest of finding one that’s cheaper I keep buying different products and the favourite is now back in stock and I still keep buying dupes instead of the one I like.

My favourite is By Terry cc moisturising cream but so far I’ve brought urban decay stay naked hydrating cc cream, Laura mercier tinted moisturiser, nars tinted moisturiser, revolution cc cream and dewy tinted moisturiser, it cosmetics cc cream (hate it it’s so heavy) maybeline water, and several others when I’ve been in boots or Superdrug.

I just need to bite the bullet and buy the By Terry don’t I?

That's me with mascara! I've bought various Avon's, a couple of maybellline, a benefit or two but really I should just buy Too Faced Better than Sex which just is the best for my eyes.

LilyTheMink · 05/04/2021 20:49

That is a lovely cream and smells of Rose's- divine!

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 05/04/2021 21:02

It gives a lovely finish. Just went to buy it on John Lewis and it’s out of stock again!
Mascara is another weakness but think that’s because I’m still on the hunt for my holy grail one.

Yes just go & get your favourite.
Most of us do something like this 'save' money but its actually a false economy & you end up spending loads in a quest to find the perfect replacement.
I was like that with Nars Orgasm as kept thinking £24 was too much for a blusher forgetting that I spend £37 - £40 quid on Guerlain's Les Meteorites Powder every few years!
So I bought loads of cheaper alternatives & ended up spending nearly as 3 times as much as just one Nars Blusher.
None of the alternatives were right so I just bit the bullet & went back to by beloved Nars.
Motto of the story is: if it ain't broke don't fix it

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 05/04/2021 21:12

@UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter
If it's this one then it's in stock at FeelUnique
m.feelunique.com/p/By-Terry-Cellularose-Moisturizing-CC-Cream-40g

If it is the one then I can pm you a referral link so you can get 20% off (that's if you've never used FU before)

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 05/04/2021 22:12

Oh thanks @TracyBeakerSoYeah that would be fab as it’s the one! Smile

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 05/04/2021 22:28

Have sent you a pm @UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter

Just copy & paste the referral code into your browser & it should work

TableNiner · 05/04/2021 22:42

I mix IT Cosmetics CC with a bit of moisturiser to lighten it up.

But agree if you find the perfect product and can afford it, it’s a false economy.

Prettybubblesintheair · 05/04/2021 22:57

Oh my god I’m the same! I absolutely love it cc but have been trying all the dupes and probably spent double what I would have if I’d just bought it cc! I hated the revolution cc but quite like the dewy foundation. Just ordered Mac studio fix after debating for months and max factor miracle touch second skin.

@TracyBeakerSoYeah I’m intrigued by the gurelain thing you mentioned, is it good? What does it do?

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 05/04/2021 23:55

@Prettybubblesintheair
www.guerlain.com/uk/en-uk/p/meteorites-light-revealing-pearls-of-powder-P041665.html

I use it to set my foundation (have been using it for nearly 20 years) & it just gives a really polished/done look even better than normal loose powder.
It must be all the the different coloured pigments & the light reflection. You only need a tiny amount though hence a pot lasting me 3 to 5 yrs.

Prettybubblesintheair · 06/04/2021 09:32

@TracyBeakerSoYeah thank you for that. It’s on my list for next month! Bloody car insurance and trying to keep kids entertained in Easter hols taking up any extra beauty spends for me this month!

FreshFaceTime · 06/04/2021 09:36

@TracyBeakerSoYeah oooooooh think I might need to give those a whirl too!

Lamentations · 06/04/2021 10:26

I've come to the same conclusion. Shit cheap stuff costs me more money than the good things.

It also really annoys me that things are labelled dupes just because Aldi or whoever has ripped off the packaging - it does NOT mean that the contents are similar!

Lamentations · 06/04/2021 10:30

There's 15% off these at All Beauty...

BirdIsland · 06/04/2021 10:46

@UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter what shade of the cc cream do you use? I'm tempted to give it a try but not sure about shade, Nude is only £35 on AllBeauty but they don't have any other shades.

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 06/04/2021 10:59

@BirdIsland I use the shade natural. I have quite pale skin but with warm tones to it and blonde hair. Although natural colour of my hair is quite a dark brown.

OP posts:
BirdIsland · 06/04/2021 11:04

Thanks @UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter, your coloring sounds similar to mine so probably need natural too. Think I'll give it a go!

citygirl1961 · 06/04/2021 19:44

I have this same dilemma. I love Clinique foundation, eyeliner, mascara and lipstick. I also like salon hair products and Liz Earle cleanser. I keep trying cheaper things but they don't cut it somehow, even though they are OK. The higher end stuff lasts a long time anyway so I reckon its worth it, I just need convincing of it though as its the initial outlay that's costly.

MsAnnFrope · 06/04/2021 19:57

Yes this is me and mascara. I know Tarte lights camera lashes is the best. But till I buy the dupes!
I have accepted that onky Lancôme foundation and clarins moisturiser works. Price per wear it’s definitely worth it.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/04/2021 20:09

Thick end of £47 for a litre of Aveda Shampure ( but I wait for the M&S 20% off) it has taken me a while to fathom that this is my HG Shampoo and lasts me a year even with DS helping himself

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 06/04/2021 20:22

@TracyBeakerSoYeah used your referral today so you should get your code. Thanks.
@BirdIsland you’ll have to let me know what you think. Hope you like it.

I think we all need to just buy the products that we want. As a pp said they tend to last anyway. And if we can afford it then just do it and make yourself happy.

OP posts:
TracyBeakerSoYeah · 07/04/2021 01:35

Thanks have got my discount code @UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter

Prettybubblesintheair · 07/04/2021 07:31

Bloody look fantastic sent me the wrong fade of foundation! I ordered max factor second skin hybrid foundation in fair and they sent me shade light which is too dark! So annoyed I’ve now got to wait for them to send the right one. I also bought Mac studio fix as they had 25% off. Good colour match but not a patch on it cc (which I could have bought if I hadn’t bought max factor and mac...just why Confused)

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 07/04/2021 09:16

@Prettybubblesintheair hope you get the right one soon. It’s nice to experiment and I think I’m always thinking I know this is the one but what if ......... and scared I’m missing out Blush

I’ve not heard of the max factor one and now feel like I might need that as well.

OP posts:
dontgobaconmyheart · 07/04/2021 10:12

Yes agreed OP, I have done this in the past quite a bit and it is a false economy. I tend to just bite the bullet now and by the fhing I want if there is some sort of discount code available.

However if I had bought the dupes, unless they were causing a reaction or somehow vastly the wrong colour I'd attempt to use them up to avoid even more waste and get the moneys worth. Most things can be mixed or played with to get a result that's fine for day to day use, which in turn makes the expensive option last longer. I've practically emptied my beauty and toiletry stashes during lockdown and it's been very satisfying.
