Anyone else buy multiple dupes and should just buy the actual product?

I’ve almost run out of my favourite tinted moisturiser/cc cream and it’s been out of stock for ages. So in the interest of finding one that’s cheaper I keep buying different products and the favourite is now back in stock and I still keep buying dupes instead of the one I like.

My favourite is By Terry cc moisturising cream but so far I’ve brought urban decay stay naked hydrating cc cream, Laura mercier tinted moisturiser, nars tinted moisturiser, revolution cc cream and dewy tinted moisturiser, it cosmetics cc cream (hate it it’s so heavy) maybeline water, and several others when I’ve been in boots or Superdrug.

I just need to bite the bullet and buy the By Terry don’t I?

That Max Factor stuff is lovely. My teenage DD uses it and it goes on really nicely and looks natural. She hates looking like she’s wearing make up but still wants to even out her skin tone and have a bit of coverage.

Also, I do this with sunglasses.
I had Ray-Bans, I loved them and they broke (after a lot of use!)
Didn't want to spend quite as much on some new ones so bought Havaianas and then some Michael Kors ones in the sale with a gift card I had and they’re both lovely but they’re not Ray-Bans.

I really want some Tiffany sunglasses but DH says no because apparently all designer sunglasses are made and sold at huge mark up by one particular company so they aren’t actually Tiffany.

I still want them...

ShouldHaveCouldHaveWouldHave · 07/04/2021 14:08

If you don’t buy the Tiffany ones you’ll always put on the cheaper, substitute sunglasses you bought instead and wish you’d got the Tiffany ones you really wanted Grin

Prettybubblesintheair · 07/04/2021 17:50

Exactly! And I’ll inevitably break them or lose them because I wasn’t looking after them like I’d look after Tiffany ones, obviously!

CandleWick4 · 07/04/2021 17:55

I had this dilemma with the Chanel bronzer, £40 for a bronzer felt ridiculous. But when you price it by weight it’s actually cheaper by gram than some of the high street ones. I think it was something like 3 of the high street ones were the same weight as one of the Chanel. That’s how I justified the purchase!

ShouldHaveCouldHaveWouldHave · 07/04/2021 18:45

@Prettybubblesintheair Well, you’ve convinced me you need them in your life so hopefully your DH can see the positives too and should be on board with it no probs!

Prettybubblesintheair · 07/04/2021 22:51

Ah if only he was as clever as you!

I’m sure I can talk him round into seeing that Tiffany sunglasses are the right thing to do. Thanks for letting me practice on you Grin

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 08/04/2021 00:38

@Prettybubblesintheair if you look after your Tiffany sunglasses then they'll be a family heirloom Smile

Plus also think about cost per wear, they could end up costing pennies re the amount of times you wear them compared to cheaper makes.

Prettybubblesintheair · 09/04/2021 09:55

Exactly! And they’re actually not THAT ridiculous price...£149ish.

Was it this thread terry cc was mentioned?

Prettybubblesintheair · 09/04/2021 12:39

Also not sure if it will help anyone but I saw on another thread about syoss salonplex shampoo/conditioner being a dupe for olaplex, I just used it and of my gosh it’s amazing! I bought the leave in bond repair serum too and I usually have to straighten my frizzy hair after blow drying but it’s so smooth and sleek but still has bounce I won’t need to straighten it. It’s about £3 a bottle! I had to order it from notino but so worth it!

MorrisZapp · 09/04/2021 12:48

Story of my life! I'm getting better at just buying The Thing, but I still have a drawerful of misfires.

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 09/04/2021 16:14

Yep by terry cc moisturiser. My new tube arrived yesterday so I finally finished the previous one that is been holding on to and buying ‘dupes’ of.

I now want the olplex dupe but I’ve not even tried the real thing so I wouldn’t know what to compare it to. My hair is in desperate need of a cut and colour but my hairdresser hasn’t got back to me with dates yet.
