What do you think of this?

Following the nail varnish thread, I've decided I NEED a really dark blue silk top.

What do you think of this?

Has naybody seen it in real life? Or if it's vile, does anybody have any other suggestions?

there is so much silk in the shops at the moment, you'd be better off traipsing round trying stuff on (if that's your sort of thing).

I do like silk but cannot get over the fact that I feel it's more akin to pyjamas than tops.

janeite · 09/11/2007 20:20

Have you seen anything specific Foxinsocks? I love silk - usually to be worn with something woolly or tweedy or rugged in some way. Warehouse might be worth looking in I suppose?

And apologies for the dreadful spelling mistake in my op.

TBH I think that top might go quite horribly wrong. It's sort of okay at fist, and then you get drawn in to the pleats and the bow, and the sleeves.

It's a trier-onner I think.

I don't like silk much, except in a dressing-gown. Foxy and I have seriously slinky nightwear

foxinsocks · 09/11/2007 20:23

oh I didn't see any mistakes and make loads myself anyway, so don't worry.

I'm not good with shop names - was in John Lewis today (and in M&S). Saw lots of silk in both (some of it very nice).

I feel I should have a silk shirt too but I just don't know when I would wear it. And I'd worry about the pyjama thing.

foxinsocks · 09/11/2007 20:24

I don't know why ANY shirt for grown women has puff sleeves.

Surely it doesn't look right on anyone over about 5?

ahundredtimes · 09/11/2007 20:24

I think the tweed/silk thing needs to be done with a very classic silk shirt in a way. That looks cool.

I said 'at fist' I meant 'at first' - I was not shaking my fist at the nice lady standing by the bar.

janeite · 09/11/2007 20:26

Mmm you may well be right ahundredtimes. I like the neckline and the sleeves but the waist tie could well be a disaster as I'm short-waisted.

Foxinsocks - I wear silk camis to work a lot and silk skirts and silk dresses/tunics over trousers. I obviously don't mind the pyjama thing (actually am a baggy T shirt in bed girl myself!).

Thanks for your help.

I'll keep looking. Mrs Badger, Jackieno, Cod et al - anyone want to help me in my quest?

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 09/11/2007 20:27

I shouldn't really be on style threads anyway given how unstylish I am!

Drag yourself down the shops and try loads on.

Are we in a bar? Are we in our silk dressing gowns? That would be fun. I hope it has a roaring fire too.

ahundredtimes · 09/11/2007 20:29

Yes we are. Next to the lady in the top.

Except Janeit wants other people to come and help her now. So we'd better just slide down to the end of the mahogany bar. I might nick the tie off her top though, because my dressing gown cord has gone awry.

Hope you find what you want. Go to Jigsaw, they have lovely things at the minute.

foxinsocks · 09/11/2007 20:30

Poor Janeite. And she was so polite about us being useless too.

janeite · 09/11/2007 20:31

Now that sounds great. Winter Pimms and ginger beer anyone?

OP posts:
ahundredtimes · 09/11/2007 20:32

Oooh I had winter pImms the other night. It was served out of a pedestal covered in snow and blood and with dry ice coming out the side. How cool was that? Was a halloween party.

Right. Silk tops.

We're bumping for you janeite, someone more useful than us will come along. In the meantime we'll just lean against the bar in our nightclothes.

foxinsocks · 09/11/2007 20:33

nah Jane. You can't just pretend you dissed us. You're down the other end of the bar with your stylish mates .

janeite · 09/11/2007 20:36

Ahh no I didn't . I'm sorry. I want to stand with you lot. The others can shout style advice from the other side of the bar, if they don't mind please.

Ooh Jigsaw. I haven't been in there in years and I used to love it but stopped going cos I couldn't afford it. Is it still hideously expensive?

OP posts:
ahundredtimes · 09/11/2007 20:37

Yes, very expensive. But also delicious. And nice silk shirts too, sort of victorian ones with bibs and little collars.

janeite · 09/11/2007 20:40

Oh God - don't tell me that. Will have a look in town - their website is useless.

OP posts:

janeite · 09/11/2007 20:51

Better pour another drink then. And please don't reveal my baggy T shirt to anybody.

You're right about the top though. I'm short-waisted so that tie thing would look ridiculous. The colour is just what I was picturing in my imagination though.

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 09/11/2007 20:58

hmm never thought about silk shirts at work. I wear a suit so it's not like it would be completely on show. Hmmm.

I do love the colours silk comes in.

ahundredtimes · 09/11/2007 21:01

Janeite - but its black isn't it? Wasn't it? I haven't checked.

I think we can find black silk shirts can't we? Without the weirdy detailing.

I am wearing right now a black shirt - not silk, oh no - but it is Italian.

hear that foxy, ITALIAN.

God, is anyone actually going to come and help this poor woman out?

foxinsocks · 09/11/2007 21:05

Are you not a bit cold in only your black shirt?

janeite · 09/11/2007 21:06

lol. No it's midnight blue not black. I suppose if we can find that colour in another fabric, but NOT T shirty or polyestery it might do.

Not to worry - I'll sit here at the non-stylish end and drown my sorrows.

Thanks for trying!

OP posts:
ahundredtimes · 09/11/2007 21:10

Oh dear poor janeite.

Just you and me in our nightwear, and no midnight blue suggestions AT ALL.

Try again tomorrow?

No Foxy. I am also wearing an . . . . apron.

foxinsocks · 09/11/2007 21:12

an apron?

on top of an Italian shirt?

I take it this is not for cooking?

(jane, I will have a look. Hang on)

ahundredtimes · 09/11/2007 21:12

OK.

I'm going to look too.
