What's ok to wear with leggings (if you are obese)?

I know I can wear what I want. I know leggings aren't particularly flattering on me - but they are so comfy for walking around in this sort of weather!

I'm talking nice quality, doesn't go thin when stretched leggings. I usually wear with a long tunic top that covers my bum - but finding it hard to find many of those. Size 18. What else could I wear with it without looking ridiculous?

A summer dress over the top?

Janaih · 31/03/2021 12:08

Any longline top would go. I find shein is good for longer tops. A fitted denim jacket or blazer smartens it up a bit.

LeggingWoah · 31/03/2021 12:09

Yes, good idea. I have a few. I've never been a fan of leggings under dresses but two kids and a spare 20kg later maybe it's time to rethink 😂

I like Roman for some of their tunics not too pricey either. Shift dresses can work, or something strappy you can stick a tshirt or jumper over but with bum coverage. Or buy a jersey fabric skirt (straight) so you get a layered look but don't feel too exposed. Making your own version of this.

Can't you just wear a long T-shirt? To be honest I would avoid leggings - what about hareem pants or yoga pants - comfy but not so tight

NotMeNoNo · 31/03/2021 12:32

I don't know if you sew but sewmesomething.co.uk/collections/patterns has lots of good lightweight dresses and tops that are a bit different.

rbe78 · 31/03/2021 12:33

Underneath summer dresses, what about footless tights instead of leggings?

Snag do some awesome ones! snagtights.com/collections/footless-tights-leggings

Allgirlskidsanddogs · 31/03/2021 12:36

A longer length top or tunic.

bjjgirl · 31/03/2021 14:31

Kimono?

SleepingStandingUp · 31/03/2021 14:34

Short summer dresses are my go to, strappy straps and kinda past my bum a bit length. Def to oshort on my fat bod without something to cover my knickers 😂

Also brought some skin tone short things from the tights place that does tights in bright colours to etc which helps with chub rub if worn under dresses. I'm 5ft 4 and I find them long (just above knee) so wouldn't wear with anything shorter but I do like maxi dresses

CarnationCat · 31/03/2021 14:44

I think summer dresses would definitely look lovely.

T-shirt dresses too. And longline vest tops for an every day/ at home look.

GrumpyHoonMain · 31/03/2021 14:46

I personally would go for a full maxi dress that’s lined and in a non-clingy material. If you’re worried about chafing you can always wear legging shorts underneath.

IllNeverLetGoJack · 31/03/2021 14:49

I'm a 16/18 and wear leggings with longline vests and tshirts over the top quite a lot.

I'm tall, so I need a really long top to cover my bum! Otherwise I just look dreadful.

LaBellina · 31/03/2021 14:51

I’d say a nice tunic or a very long blouse.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 31/03/2021 15:13

On cold days a big baggy jumper and a scarf or chunky necklace, warmer days a linen lagenlook top or loose top that reaches my thighs.

Flappityflippers1 · 31/03/2021 15:17

I got some long length t shirts from H&M to wear with leggings, bought them for pregnancy but love them so much have continued! So easy to Chuck on and look ok with converse and long line cardigan

toffeebutterpopcorn · 31/03/2021 15:20

I got some ‘religious’ tunic tops online - nice and floaty, covers to the hips and some beautiful designs and patterns. Flattering and cool.

knackeredcat · 31/03/2021 16:07

I'm a short size 20 and live in lagenlook-y tunic dresses over leggings. For a more casual look I like a loose fitting wide necked long t shirt (that covers my huge bum) with a long vest underneath.

What is the difference between footless tights and leggings?

Footless tights are cooler in summer - like 40 denier tights without the feet! Leggings are more substantial therefore can be warmer.

Also I find footless tights don't tend to go baggy or bubbly etc like leggings can but they are generally less solid

Yours have nice comfy oversized tshirts which go well, or maybe a vest top with a long sheer blouse over the top. Some nice bits in the next sale, im back in love with next now they have proper plus size clothing
