Best lip masks/treatments for incredibly dry lips 💋

TangerineCandyfloss · 18/03/2021 11:18

Hi,

So I've had dry and chapped lips for about 20 years! Basically since a young teen when I was obsessed with with lip balms. I would re apply every 5 minutes! I honestly think it ruined my lips.

I'm in a constant cycle of dry lips, lips peeling, lips healing, dry lips, lips peeling.... and round it goes again.

I always wear lipstick, as feel really dull without it, but I've started wearing much less recently, which has helped slightly and always wear Burts Bees lip balm underneath.

When I did my face mask this morning, I decided to add some to my lips and actually, they do feel quite a lot better. I did a bit of research and apparently lip masks are a thing and a lot have really good reviews, although don't trust the Amazon reviews!

Anyway, shall I just carry on with using my face mask on my lips or get a specially formulated one?

Any recommendations? Would also love a bit of plumping!

Thank you Smile

Anyone?....

I have constantly chapped lips naturally unless I use a lip scrub every morning. I use one from either Lush or Jeffree Star Cosmetics, followed by lip balm. It’s the only thing that’s ever helped me.

FreshFaceTime · 18/03/2021 13:02

Lanisoh nipple cream every night.

TangerineCandyfloss · 18/03/2021 13:52

@Everley, I have tried scrubs before, but don't feel they remove any of the dry skin. They feel nice to use and like they must be doing something, but I think my dry skin is just too thick. Need something industrial strength.....like nipple cream perhaps @FreshFaceTime Grin

Come back and thank me in a week Wink

minou123 · 18/03/2021 14:00

I'm pleased you started this thread TangerineCandyfloss. Every year, thus time of year, my lips start to chap and dry. It's so annoying

I've tried everything. But haven't tried nipped cream. Thank you for the recommendation FreshFaceTime

FreshFaceTime · 18/03/2021 14:07

I think Lanisoh actually make a lip cream too but as I had a gazillion tubes of hardly used nipple cream I figured I'd just use that. Works an absolute treat and a tube lasts absolutely ages!

TangerineCandyfloss · 18/03/2021 14:10

@FreshFaceTime, I've just googled and found that brand in particular is very popular for this problem. Interesting...

How often do you use it?

@minou123, sucks doesn't it? Mine is all year through, although definitely worse in the winter.

O’Keeffe’s overnight lip repair really helped my son’s cracked lips literally overnight, it was recommended on here I think! I love the Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream too. Maybe worth checking it’s not a dermatological problem too, I know someone with lip issues and turned out it was a type of eczema and the dermatologist gave her a prescription cream (not sure what is was now) which worked a treat after all my suggestions failed to help.

minou123 · 18/03/2021 14:22

It does suck TangerineCandyfloss.

I do feel for you as yours is all year long. Mine is always now when the weather goes from cold to mild then back to cold in the space of a day.

FreshFaceTime · 18/03/2021 14:26

@TangerineCandyfloss I use it most nights. Just smudge a bit on after skincare routine. At first when my lips were really sore (I was like you where they would get worse every winter) I would slap a pea-sized blob on (so it looks like a thick layer of vaseline) and it would still look a bit gloopy and weird by morning but now I use it as more of a prevention thing so I just put a tiny smear on. I see these hospital bag lists people make when they're having babies and everyone includes nipple cream and lip balm and I just want to shout YOU DON'T NEED THE LIP BALM IF YOU HAVE THE NIPPLE CREAM!!! Because it is seriously good stuff. But then I'd sound like a bit of a loon so I just keep my (lovely soft) mouth shut Grin

AllTheCakes · 18/03/2021 14:47

Was going to suggest the Lanisoh too, it’s brilliant

cirrusminor · 18/03/2021 14:53

I use Eucerin Aquaphor (the "soothing skin balm" in the 45 mL tube, not the lip balm) at night, my lips often get dry and cracked when I don't take proper care and I find this mends them overnight. During the day I really like the Bioderma lip balm because it's got a nice smooth texture and doesn't annoy me.

altlife · 18/03/2021 14:57

Someone already mentioned it but I also use Lansinoh nipple cream. It's like Vaseline but purer I think.

I slather it on every night and morning and any other time my lips feel dry. I even re-apply in the night if I wake Grin

minou123 · 18/03/2021 17:39

I've put in my order for Lansinoh Nipple Cream.

You'll be pleased to know FreshFaceTime that in the reviews women are shouting like a loon for you Grin. For example:
Not just a great nipple balm! I used this when breast feeding the babies and it was a god send, but it doesn’t just do wonders for your nipples, no! It’s Possibly the best LIP BALM around.. don’t spend lots on the likes of 24hr lip balms at £30 a pop

DareIask · 18/03/2021 17:42

Elizabeth Arden 24 hour is great.

They used to do one in a pot.. if you can get that it's best for overnight.

The usual lipstick shaped one to reapply during the day.

FreshFaceTime · 18/03/2021 17:45

@minou123 good to know there's a few of us about!

AnneLovesGilbert · 18/03/2021 17:47

Another vote for lansinoh. Incredible stuff.

I was going to suggest the Eucerin Aquaphor. It got me through my accutane treatment.
SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 18/03/2021 20:00

I use E45 every morning and night on my lips. Might be worth considering once you have got them to a good place.

Apileofballyhoo · 18/03/2021 20:00

My lips used to be like that until I started drinking about 2-3 litres of liquid a day.

Stationfork · 18/03/2021 20:06

I also use lansinoh

HappyGirl86 · 18/03/2021 20:10

Best thing I've ever used is lanisoh nipple cream. I feel like I've spent years trying so many different lip balms, and nothing beats the nipple cream. It lasts for ages too.

BuddhaAtSea · 18/03/2021 20:12

Lansinoh here too. I swear by it.

minou123 · 19/03/2021 13:43

I've got the Lansinoh Nipple Cream and it's lovely.
You're right that you only need a teeny bit and it goes very far. It's not sticky either.

I will let you know the results.
