I spent nearly £70 on one eyeshadow palette AMA

Obviously I’m joking, but I really did buy a Chantecaille Butterfly palette, it was £68 (but I got it for about £54 with vouchers) and it is SO GORGEOUS. I feel like I’ve ruined myself for other eyeshadows now, but it’s just perfect for me.

Here’s a couple of pictures of it, photos really don’t do it justice. It’s so perfect for a pretty spring look for crepey eyelids!

What are your favourite splurge items? This is definitely my top one, I used to really like Chanel foundation but the buggers discontinued it!

MyDC this palette is suppose to have a delicate finish not all eyeshadows are meant to be 'in your face' colour. This is why I like Japanese makeup, for the fact it's subtle and gives a bright eyed look. I have a few Urban decay palettes and I just find them so heavy and thick to work with.

MissPessyMistic · 06/03/2021 03:02

Oh I do love Chantecaille. I use their base products, luckily I have a draw full of eyeshadow palettes and blusher from other brands to get through to stop a splurge! Good choice OP!

Anthilda · 06/03/2021 03:22

I like the eyeshadow. My eye lids look similar to yours, you're right about having to adapt and the annoyance of not being able to get the perfect cat eyeliner look.
I have the urban decay naked cherry which I love and will buy again when it eventually runs out. Recently, I purchased the too faced palette as it had amazing reviews and I wanted to try more neutral shades. All reviews said how blendable it was but I found it to be quite difficult to blend and the colours are way way darker on the skin than they looked on the picture.
I'm kicking myself because, although the glitters are gorgeous, I actually wish I'd bought another urban decay or mac palette.

blisstwins · 06/03/2021 06:57

OP, I did not know this brand, but I bought the palette because of you. I am older than you and had given up on anything with shimmer, but these sheerness of these is so lovely and it doesn't have that shiny look that makes me think I am too old for it. I am actually really excited. One person whose video I watched said there is usually a 30% off sale in July. If I like this as much as I hope I will they may be a time to try more for the brand, It is insanely expensive.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 06/03/2021 07:11

To be honest they look less pigmented that my £7.99 Saffron 100 colours eyes shadow palette.

DinoHat · 06/03/2021 07:17

I have quite a collection of eye shadow pallettes OP so I’m in no position to judge Grin if I like it I’d happily pay £60!

Mellonsprite · 06/03/2021 11:09

I think some people are missing the point that it’s not supposed to be a mega pigmented colour. It’s iridescent or a like a wash.
On the strength of this thread I’ve ordered a Becca iridescent palette from boots which has the same sheen as this, which I love.

MuddleMoo · 06/03/2021 12:57

They do nice subtle blushes too, I got one 25% off before Xmas. They are small pans though.

inmyslippers · 06/03/2021 13:37

^^ I can barely see it, I can't see any perks of having it, other then telling people you have it.

CandleWick4 · 06/03/2021 13:47

@Uptoongirl

I'm pleased it's paid off for you...whenever I treat myself to something pricey I regret it. Looking at you Chanel Soleil Bronzer and you Hourglass Palette!
Oh my, I was about to write almost the exact same sentence as you!! I like the Chanel bronzer but it’s not worth the price and I recently bought an hourglass palette, the 6 pan holiday one, luckily with a voucher and a discount because if I’d have paid the full eye watering £81 for it I would be crying into the blush! The colours are so unpigmented and barely show on my skin and I’m pretty fair. I love a good Charlotte Tilbury splurge and the £40 I paid for the pillow talk eyeshadow quad was worth it. Had it a year now and barely a dent and for me the colours are perfect and I love it! I also love the flawless filter and the contour wand. Worth the prices for me.
peboh · 06/03/2021 13:50

At the price you paid for it, it doesn't deliver that's all I can say

mylovelydd · 06/03/2021 14:41

I think you look really pretty with your eyeshadow and if it brings you joy, well after the year we've all had, I say go for it!

(Admittedly I am not a good influence though Grin )

And as someone who has hooded eyes I am horribly envious of your lids Envy

I think the lightness is exactly the way it is supposed to look. This brand allows you to do a sheer shimmer without that glam look you usually get. It seems to be something unique to this brand, which is why they can charge these high prices. Look at this model from the website. She is wearing a day look, not a sparkly, instagram done up look. I don't know if this brand will work for me, but I am in my 50s and want to look fresh and luminous--but not like JLo or a Kardashian. I think OP looks amazing with such a sheer, light sweep of color. I only hope it looks as nice on me when it comes!

Chantecaille absolutely is worth it just on the beauty of the case alone! And how gorgeous the shadows look in the palette.

And I think it looks gorgeous on you too, OP. It may not come across on the photo but I can tell it will look perfect IRL.

That’s it, this year I definitely am going to treat myself for my birthday!

bettybadger · 06/03/2021 16:30

Well you convinced me OP thanks! I've been wanting to buy something soft and light for a daytime look and this looks like it will fit the bill nicely - but really it's that amazing iridescent green that swung it for me!!! Haven't bought expensive eyeshadow for years so feel ok splurging for once (plus I found a £15 off code Smile). Mine arrives Monday and I can't wait.
Will try to post the YouTube video I liked below - you can really see the colours:

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 06/03/2021 19:34

I think it's very pretty. Subtle is nice (and easier to apply). My favourite pallette is Too Faced Sweet Peach, which I think has a similar feel.

MeanMrMustardSeed · 06/03/2021 19:52

I think it looks beautiful on you, OP. Really lovely colours. You have great skin too.

JackieTheFart · 06/03/2021 20:04

Thank you all for your kind comments! I agree it's not hugely pigmented, but that's what I wanted and I am very pleased with it. I shall approach Chantecaille for my finder's fee as a couple of you have bought on my recommendation Wink

I bought the Natasha Denona Biba palette. Big regret, sold it (at a loss mind you) and wi never do it again Grin

AColdDuncanGoodhew · 06/03/2021 21:03
@Mellonsprite some of the Naked3 palette by urban decay is actually quite similar tbh.

I tried to layer it on a bit more today, it’s really hard to capture on camera! This is how it looks with only a tiny dab of the duo chrome on the centre of my eyelid, which you can’t really see but it gives more of a sheen.
Ooooh lovely!!! I really like this

BusterGonad · 07/03/2021 03:41

I've just been googling this palette. Damn.... Its nice! Not sure I can justify it though. I feel like I want it as I've had a shit few weeks. 🙄

JustGiveMeGin · 07/03/2021 10:31

Never understand why people comment saying 'I've had better for a fiver' or whatever. OP is clearly thrilled with it and wanted to share, if you dont particularly like it or feel it is overpriced there are better ways of saying so.
Personally I can't afford to spend that much on makeup and I am currently more of a Rimmel or Maybelline buyer, I treated myself to No7 tinted moisturizer the other day Grin
My point is if the OP Is clearly happy with her purchase the good for her!
