I spent nearly £70 on one eyeshadow palette AMA

Grin

Obviously I’m joking, but I really did buy a Chantecaille Butterfly palette, it was £68 (but I got it for about £54 with vouchers) and it is SO GORGEOUS. I feel like I’ve ruined myself for other eyeshadows now, but it’s just perfect for me.

Here’s a couple of pictures of it, photos really don’t do it justice. It’s so perfect for a pretty spring look for crepey eyelids!

What are your favourite splurge items? This is definitely my top one, I used to really like Chanel foundation but the buggers discontinued it!

If they give you joy then it's not a waste of money, I've got quite a few Chanel quads and Shesido which are around £40 to £50. They'll last me years and make me feel great when I wear them. I think DM boots are a waste of money as personally I don't like that look on women but I wouldn't say that on a post about a pair of DMs as it's rude imo.

@AtticusF1nch I mean...don’t really know what to say to that. I like it

I have an eyeshadow palette addiction but that one is more than I would pay.

At the moment I'm hankering after this Huda beauty one. I mentioned to to adult DD and am hoping the DC might club together for Mother's Day.

I love the sheen of this, and it suits you.
Can anyone recommend a dupe for us skint folk??

Chimpfield · 04/03/2021 18:40

It's lovely and as long as you are happy it is money well spent - enjoy x

violetbunny · 04/03/2021 19:35

I just bought this palette too and can't wait for it to arrive. I have both their spring eye quads from last year and they are amazing. It's hard to capture on camera but some of the shadows have a stunning duo chrome effect.

JackieTheFart · 05/03/2021 15:20

@Mellonsprite some of the Naked3 palette by urban decay is actually quite similar tbh.

I tried to layer it on a bit more today, it’s really hard to capture on camera! This is how it looks with only a tiny dab of the duo chrome on the centre of my eyelid, which you can’t really see but it gives more of a sheen.

Honestly it was a toss up between this and the Hummingbird palette from last year, but I am glad I got this one.

Sorry - I think I've offended you! Didn't mean to at all. But in truth it's a very slight wash of colour and I was merely commenting that I'd need a more pigmented blend for that sort of money

MarshaBradyo · 05/03/2021 17:22

I like it a lot, Chantecaille is my fave brand

One of the top anyway

victopai · 05/03/2021 17:28

Looks very pretty for daytime wear. My splurge is Pat Mcgraph. She is my absolute makeup icon and I'd recommend to anyone who loves high end makeup

MuddleMoo · 05/03/2021 17:56

Ooh thanks, I heard this was meant to be a nice subtle one. Might be good as I usually get natasha denona but it can be quite pigmented.

If you are wanting to buy Pat Mcgrath there will always be a sale at some point so just hang on a bit!

Is that the one with the shade that looks like a petri dish? If so I'm intrigued to know what that looks like on.
Bakedbeanhead · 05/03/2021 18:02

Oh god I have found my people. I spent about40 quid on a pallet from Bobbi Brown and it’s still going strong, might have a look at a Channel one when shops are open properly

Anne1958 · 05/03/2021 18:04

Op, where did you learn to put eyeshadow on like that. I’d love to be able to but I just can’t master it.

Kendodd · 05/03/2021 18:10

Can I recommend a brand OP?
Also, they might have the discontinued Channel you liked.

That's beautiful OP! I had the Chantecaille foundation a million years ago and it was perfect for my skin but way too expensive. I'm jealous, enjoy your eyeshadows! I stick to Nars now but get their palletes in the sales.

MyDcAreMarvel · 05/03/2021 18:14

There isn’t much pigment @JackieTheFart it doesn’t really look like you are wearing any. Morphe would be better and cheaper.

JackieTheFart · 05/03/2021 20:18

YouTube videos mostly! I used to do loads of different looks and have lots of different shadows, but it’s definitely important (I feel) as I get older to embrace the changes in my skin and face. It’s easy to get disheartened when (for example) it’s hard to have a really crisp cat eye liner because your eyes are just not smooth enough any more. For that look I used a fluffy brush for the wash of colour and then a flat one to line under my eyes.

@MyDcAreMarvel well thanks, but I didn’t want cheaper and IME I would not have got the finish I wanted from a cheaper brand. I know it’s subtle but that’s what I like! I just want to enhance my natural beauty Wink

MyDcAreMarvel · 05/03/2021 20:24

@JackieTheFart I meant cheaper in price but not in quality. The eyeshadow isn’t a reflection on you btw you look fine.

LaurieFairyCake · 05/03/2021 20:34

Looks fantastic on you 👍🏻

Really classy

Gooseygoosey12345 · 05/03/2021 20:51

Not sure if anyone's said, but I used to use the Chanel foundation. I use Nars now and it's just as lovely. Not the full coverage one though!

AprilLady · 05/03/2021 22:18

I recently managed to get last year’s Hummingbird palette for a great price on ebay. I also have some single Chantecaille eyeshadows.

I agree with you OP, they are really, really lovely. I don’t think a photo can do justice to the lovely satiny smooth finish they give. They are definitely not as pigmented as most so the end look is more subtle. But I have a number of palettes (Urban Decay, Nars, Charlotte Tilbury etc) and none give the satiny finish that Chantecaille does.

JackieTheFart · 06/03/2021 01:43

I know what you mean, @MyDcAreMarvel I own some Morphe shadows as a shop opened here fairly recently. I just don’t think they touch these in terms of quality, and I really and truly have never seen shadows with such a silky satiny finish before. That’s not even to say I don’t like them, I do, they’re just different!

Having said all that - must stress it’s highly unlikely that I’ll ever buy anything else from Chantecaille as it’s so expensive!
