Long sleeved tops to wear under other tops, with a low neck?

Do these exist? I have got some nice smocky type things with a low / square neck but they are too cold to wear without a layer underneath. Ordinary l/s top underneath with a high neck does not look quite right.

M&S does some plain white ones with a low v neck.

FrannyandZooey · 05/11/2007 09:13

do they? are they just in white?

i am looking for this too, a nice grey one. there's this but i think sleeves too short for warmth.

FrannyandZooey · 05/11/2007 09:15

oh that's interesting fishie - not sure about the lace?

I really want the kind of basic jersey top they do at eg top shop, but with a low neck that looks ok / doesn't show under a smock neck

not very tempting m&s per una always nasty but these are especially hideous.

cremolafoam · 05/11/2007 09:18

hate to suggest it in light of the recent charity shop thread BUT
asda have basic black and white l/s tshirts for £1.75.

fishie · 05/11/2007 09:23

am returning failed experimental grey top to gap later. they're usually good for layering things, will have a look. i know just what you mean re high neck for layering, very lesley judd.

I have exactly this dilemma and have been considering aaaargh Boden

There's a Boden shop opening near me soon so I'm waiting to see whether they have them in stock there.

NaeDanger · 05/11/2007 09:32

i've seen women wearing kind of a turtle neck type l/s top under these smocky shirts. still not sure about htough...will wathc this with interest.

womblingalong · 05/11/2007 09:40

F,

I managed to get a really good one from asda last year, with balloon sleeves, the neck is wide enough for me to pull it down to BF. I saw some similar ones in H&M.

FrannyandZooey · 05/11/2007 10:20

cod I think not low enough

the Boden one nice but too expensive, I need about 3 or 4 I reckon

I have also wondered re: polo neck

not sure myself

turtlenecks look nice - Gap have some very lightweight ones.

fishie · 05/11/2007 10:25

completely off specification but nice

cod i think the m&s one too cheap and wouldn't wash. i want something really solid and stretchy.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 05/11/2007 10:29

How about something like this?

Kew always seem to have a good selection of jersey tops of varying necklines.

bagpuss · 05/11/2007 10:31

Franny you need this I have the blue one on today under a sweater dress with a very low v neck and I am really warm.

FrannyandZooey · 05/11/2007 10:35

I am not sure bagpuss (and everyone else)
the top I have on today is a big low square neck (almost like a wench neckline thing)

I reckon a v neck is going to show at both sides

OP posts:
bagpuss · 05/11/2007 10:39

Mine is quite a wide v neck Franny, and it shows under my dress (which is very low) but might not under something with a more normal neckline.

FrannyandZooey · 05/11/2007 10:40

i am pondering...lots of these look nice

I wonder if something with a square neckline would look a bit better if it showed? I haven't seen any like that though

OP posts:
fishie · 05/11/2007 10:47

yes you'll need a scoop in contrasting colour to wear with a square neck, then it won't matter if it shows. v neck wouldnt' work. i love that white stuff one bagpuss, is it that colour in rl?

drobbin · 05/11/2007 10:52

try next, they have great range of high necked tops l-sleeved cotton tops very reasonable and wash well. i hadn't previously thought of shopping there but have been really impressed with their range...

Tatties · 05/11/2007 12:46

Can't seem to find any clothes on their website , but H&M have some 3/4 length sleeve tops with a low, slightly gathered neckline. I am wearing a black one today funnily enough

Don't think it was very expensive

bagpuss · 05/11/2007 12:54

Fishie, yes it is that colour. I am really pleased with it under my petrol blue sweater dress (which is also White Stuff but not on their website anymore).

DirtyGertiefromnumber30 · 05/11/2007 13:01

Franny, H&M do low scoop, long sleeve jersey tops about £8 each in lots of different colours.
