What clothes do you consider to be sexy but classy?

I'm sorry that's a really naff thread title I know!

Next week I'll be meeting an old boyfriend for the first time in many years. We're both in our 50's, both divorced. In all honesty, I think it's less of a meet and more of an opportunity for sex - something neither of us (apparently) have had for a while.

I want to look classy/sexy/age appropriate but I don't know what to wear! I'll be more at home in jeans/trousers but what top do I go for? I'm a 12/14 and can safely say my best years are behind me in terms of looking fit and toned etc.

Please help me!

This is the sort of look I'm most comfortable in - obviously I'm much older, shorter and heavier though!

I think the picture you've posted looks great! And almost everything I was going to say looks to be covered by the pic you've posted! A 3/4 length sleeved top that shows a bit of wrist, and also cut so that you can show a bit of collarbone and with a lowish back- it means you can show a bit of skin without having to go the short skirted/low cut route. Black is always good unless it makes you look deathly pale, if it does then dark navy is a bit more forgiving but still elegant:)

In that case it doesn't matter what you wear because you won't be wearing it for long. Go for comfort.

StepOutOfLine · 26/02/2021 16:58

The perfume you were wearing when he was your boyfriend. The clothes won't matter. Grin

Pigtailsandall · 26/02/2021 17:03

Something tactile, like a v-neck cashmere jumper, and dab of nice perfume.

Have fun!!!

I want to look classy/sexy/age appropriate

IMVHO having the words 'age appropriate' in your vocabulary is not terribly sexy.

And ... (bear in mind I'm of the same generation as you) I can't help feeling the outfit you've posted is awfully dated. Something about the proportions ...

Look, I'm linking the page for Raey at Matches. I personally struggle with the absence of colour in their clothes - but really love the relaxed glamour and the way everything's interchangeable.

I'd start with a midi length slip dress and add one or two more pieces to achieve a look you're happy with. See what you think ...

WonderfulBuns · 26/02/2021 17:33

I love Raey, for me, but I don’t think any of those clothes would suit the OP.

I love the look OP has posted and can imagine someone my age (mid fifties) looking really good in that style. Just need to scale it back appropriately to look confident /classy. I can totally see it looking casual/confident/sexy.

WonderfulBuns · 26/02/2021 17:35

@PursuingProxemicExactitude, agree with the relaxed glamour of Raey. The lack of colour means the pieces work hard as basics.

Loopyloututu2 · 26/02/2021 17:37

I think you are a bit of a rock chick aren’t you OP? I like the look you’ve posted and you should wear what you feel comfortable in. Maybe not quite so many necklaces though - that’s a bit “Mr T”!

mytrueaccount · 26/02/2021 17:47

Wear black jeans, pref not too faded, and a silky slightly clingy top of the length you prefer unbuttoned one button more than you would think -- it makes women look very French and very touchable IMHO and this isn't too far from your comfort zone which is important

PursuingProxemicExactitude · 26/02/2021 17:52

I think you are a bit of a rock chick aren’t you OP?

But looks evolve ... I'd be surprised if many of the women we (vaguely) remember as arbiters of that style are still dressing in exactly the same way today.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 26/02/2021 17:53

Some of that Raey stuff would make me look like a dumpling. Although I think it would look gorgeous on a tall willowy type. I did like the silk cami top though.
I like what the OP posted - important to feel comfortable and confident.

So. No social distancing where you are?

This is style and beauty my dear. I believe there is a specific thread for all covid related chat? It's a tad dull but I'm guessing you'll love it!!! Grin

C'mon, let the woman have a long awaited shag in peace!

Mollyiere · 26/02/2021 21:24

Thank you for all your suggestions and replies. I've not heard of Raey so I'll go and look now.

Personally, I do not think the image posted upthread is anywhere remotely sexy. However, what is sexy is very much up to the individual and not a one size fits all approach.

For me, being sexy is an attitude more than attire. However, tactile textures that make someone want to reach out and touch you are very sensual, so I would be looking at cashmere, maybe an oversized v-necked sweater clinched at the waist and falls slightly off one shoulder to expose a little skin. (I have a wonderful Raey oversized off-the shoulder cashmere sweater). As for silk, well, I have several of Raey's silk slip dresses and love a loose silk vest or camisole tucked into high waisted jeans.

I do think both Andrea (Camille Cottin) and Catherine Barneville (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) are both sexy and dress in a very simple but sexy way. It is also worth watching the excruciatingly terrible Emily in Paris (on Netflix) for more of Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu as her character is dressed beautifully and very, very sexily but in a stylish and chic way.

I’ve just ordered this- www.asos.com/asos-tall/asos-design-tall-rib-bodysuit-with-bust-seams-and-long-sleeve-in-blue/prd/21017891?colourwayid=60134386&SearchQuery=bodysuit
It has good reviews and looks simple and casual but sexy. Very fitted and the bust seams are a sexy detail. Not my usual thing but it really caught my eye in the dusky colour too

StarlightLady · 27/02/2021 05:03

It’s a shame it’s not summer. I think it depends how weather dependent you feel you need to be. How much time will you be outdoors?

I would go either for a timeless dress or seperates with a short top, so you have a meet in the middle look as opposed to layers with a skirt or jeans. Maybe something with a low back? And shoes or trainers you can walk comfortably in.

Oh, and matching lingerie, with a touch of lace, it doesn’t have to be over the top, but no supermarket multipack knickers!

Have a lovely time. 👚

Eesha · 27/02/2021 11:18

@mytrueaccount i like the idea of a silky top but can't imagine where from?

PursuingProxemicExactitude · 27/02/2021 11:32

Alternatively, OP, if you want something more ... overt - I am completely in love with this Zara dress. If only I had a hot date to wear it on ...

praecantator · 27/02/2021 12:43

I wear stuff very similar to Raey at home, comfortable and nice. Well, apart from the hoodies and sweat-pants, can't do those.

The ASOS link posted seems, well, too obvious and a tad cheap, sorry.

I would go with the suggestion of tactile and sensual fabrics; perhaps a silk/satin midi slip dress (like suggested above) and a soft cashmere cardigan/sweater? Nice scent is essential.

Or, leather trousers with silk/satin blouse?

Have fun!

Eesha · 27/02/2021 15:17

Where would one get a casual looking blazer like this though?

PursuingProxemicExactitude · 28/02/2021 06:13

If you mean the one in the OP's photo - I imagine the thirty million women in the country use a variety of sources ...

Blazers aren't hard to find, Eesha - you'd need to be more specific about what you're looking for.
