What clothes do you consider to be sexy but classy?

I'm sorry that's a really naff thread title I know!

Next week I'll be meeting an old boyfriend for the first time in many years. We're both in our 50's, both divorced. In all honesty, I think it's less of a meet and more of an opportunity for sex - something neither of us (apparently) have had for a while.

I want to look classy/sexy/age appropriate but I don't know what to wear! I'll be more at home in jeans/trousers but what top do I go for? I'm a 12/14 and can safely say my best years are behind me in terms of looking fit and toned etc.

Please help me!

@PursuingProxemicExactitude so ideally something loose/not boxy, dark blue or black. I've never really considered a blazer with jeans before as mine all seemed quite worky from the 90s but a softer drapey one would work. I know! Vague!!! I'm trying to find my style at present a bit!

PursuingProxemicExactitude · 28/02/2021 08:31

& Other Stories has several.

(Apols for snippy, pre-coffee tone - it sounded more friendly in my head!)

Eesha · 28/02/2021 09:37

@PursuingProxemicExactitude thanks for this, I like Other Stories and Arket but worried they look stiff. But then too drapey might also look cheap

PursuingProxemicExactitude · 28/02/2021 10:01

Drapey, not cheap Margaret Howell ...

Hello :). Thank you for the further responses, I appreciate so much people taking the time.

I haven't found anything yet! I love the idea of silk camisoles/off the shoulder tops etc but confidence is my issue (well, one of them!). I don't have the figure anymore - if ever I did - for clingy.

I also feel guilty about the social distancing thing. There aren't any excuses I know, but I live alone, and he lives with one adult dc so it could be worse. I've had the vaccine. We don't live close to each other any more and this meet is because I have to travel to near his town for work. And - brace yourselves - I haven't had sex for 10 years. That's embarrassing but sadly true. Again, not an excuse I know.

Anyway - thanks again for the advice.

@BringMeTea the Reiss top is gorgeous. I'm always conscious of my arms, thinking better to have sleeves! Slouchy blazer is exactly what I'm looking for, I couldn't think of the word before!

NowWhatUsernameShallIHave · 10/03/2021 17:46

Casual slim jeans or cropped mom type
Or leather leggings
Worn with a camisole top or a top not too low cut but just enough
Blazer on top with sleeves rolled if you like
Any shoes you feel comfortable in that aren’t crocs the like
White trainers, boots, heels

CallmeBadJanet · 10/03/2021 17:47

@Mollyiere The best thing he can probably wear is a condom.

mommybunny · 10/03/2021 17:58

Busbee Style is a YouTube channel for over40s and she has a great video for “first date” wear that’s kind of along the lines of your photo. Might be worth checking that out for ideas.

The references to Andrea and Catherine were to characters in Call My Agent (that wasn’t clear to me-did I miss something?) on Netflix. Great call though - their style is amazing.

I love the idea of a silky, satiny blouse with jeans and boots. Vampy, smokey eye makeup and you’re done.

Have fun!

Keeping it simple with well cut clothes usually looks elegant. I’m quite quirky in my style (Oska/Toast etc) and decided long ago the most important thing is to feel comfortable and like your own look. If you like it then the chances are he will. If he doesn’t then you won’t care.
My ‘go to style’ when I’m feeling more chubby than usual is a longish jersey A line dress with biker boots and interestingly cut oversized shirt/jumper over it all with unfussy silver artisan jewellery. I’d ask myself: what do I feel at my best in now? And I’d use that as my guide and just upgrade the look.
Hope you have a lovely memorable time!

ILoveShula · 10/03/2021 19:46

The image posted doesn't look classy or age appropriate (sorry).

I'd go for well cut jeans or trousers and either a shirt style blouse with a couple of buttons undone, or a tactile but not fluffy jumper tha sort of slips off the shoulder a little.

Nice matching underwear and no -popsocks- knee-highs.

JaninaDuszejko · 10/03/2021 20:30

You want a silk (real not polyester) blouse, Other Stories or Boden or Jigsaw all have a reasonable selection. Lovely as cashmere is when I wear a silk skirt and cashmere jumper I always feel like I'm not really dressing up. A cashmere slouchy jumper is sensual to wear but doesn't really look sexy in my mind. Whereas a silk blouse feels grown up and sophisticated and sexy.

ILoveShula · 10/03/2021 20:36

Yes, silk, or cotton. Not polyester.

DianaT1969 · 10/03/2021 21:30

Thanks to @Janina for the link to Jigsaw silk tops. I bought the pyjama style one.
