Want a pixie cut but I think I’d hate it...

Tell me honestly -

I’ve been dithering over getting short hair for at least 20 years. I have very fine hair and I’d really like to stop worrying about ratty ends! And I always admire women with sharp cuts. But... I’m tall (5’9), my hair has a tendency to either pouf or fall really flat and I dress fairly androgynously. I’m 37. Honestly... I’m going to look like my dad circa 1992, aren’t I?

Lovely photos, your 3rd one is really nice

lazylinguist · 16/02/2021 10:17

All your pics look fab, IndecentFeminist! I'm increasingly tempted. Now I just need hairdressers to open...

Cocolapew · 16/02/2021 10:22

A selection 😁

Wow I love these pictures! I have very fine, frizzy hair and always been tempted to go short. I am fairly slim but I have no sense of style - my DH says my style is 'scruffy kitten' so not sure I could pull it off!

IndecentFeminist · 16/02/2021 10:32

I like my hair scruffy in the main, I feel infinitely more stylish with a version of short hair than my prior hair, which was quite flat and boring. I felt more 'done' with short hair.

I think a 'scruffy kitten' could definitely find a short cut that would suit. 😁

Cocolapew · 16/02/2021 10:39

Short hair can take more time to look after, I use wax on mine and it was always sticking up the next day but I washed it everyday. By the tine I had got my make upon it was dry. Because I cut it myself I didn't need to go to the hairdresser's, my mum's is short and she went every 6 weeks but I cut hers now too.
One thing I've noticed since I stopped dyeing is how greasy it is Hmm it's like being a teen again. I don't think it's nice long because it looks a bit lank.

lazylinguist · 16/02/2021 11:04

The other thing about cutting mine short is that it would be in much better condition. It's so fine that it tangles and breaks a lot. When I've just dried it, there are lots of visible broken hairs on the surface.

Londontown12 · 16/02/2021 11:15

It all depends ! I had to have a pixie my hair was breaking all over and I also wanted to grow out the colour (I’m a hairdresser) I knew I was going to hate it 🤣 and I did but I also know how fast hair grows I’ve done it before ! I think it’s always best to just do it u won’t know til you try ! As for it being low maintenance yes and no it all depends on how good your styling skills are if it’s been cut correctly it shouldn’t be hard to style !
All the best x

Cocolapew · 16/02/2021 12:03

Because of this thread I've just chopped my hair off. Its a bit chilly.

BallsToYouSue · 16/02/2021 12:04

Omg really coco?? How did it go?

Cocolapew · 16/02/2021 12:09

Ok 😂 I usually chop at it for a few days after doing it, I'm blind as a bat and miss bits Blush.
I'll take a photo.

BallsToYouSue · 16/02/2021 12:09

Yes! Photo please!

Cocolapew · 16/02/2021 12:13

The sides need cut more but I'm going to use the clippers on them.
Before and after.

Omg you have done an amazing job!! I dread to think what mine would look like if I cut my own! That looks great!

Cocolapew · 16/02/2021 12:20

Thank you, I've been doing it for 18 years so sort of know what to do. As long as nobody looks too closely at it Grin

absolutetelynotfabulous · 16/02/2021 13:45

@lazylinguist: mine is around 3/4" all over. It's so fine it won't lie flat but kind of flicks up in layers. I have to have bleach in it because that's the only thing that thickens it. I also use product. It then breaks off, thins out so I add more bleach to thicken it up again. A vicious circle!

At least it's not grey.

Cocolapew · 16/02/2021 13:46

😐

PaulHollywoodsLowHangingFruit · 16/02/2021 13:49

Coco - what a beautiful hair colour you have x

great style too!

Cocolapew · 16/02/2021 14:00

Grin thank you

M0rT · 16/02/2021 14:17

@IndecentFeminist you have fabulous bone structure. The short hair really suits you.
@Pinecone90 if you really do look like kuuskajaskari then go for it, she looks great.
Just wait till the hairdressers are reliably open where you are as you might need a few 4-6 week apart cuts to get exactly to the style that suits you.

JemimaMuddledUp · 16/02/2021 15:42

I had a pixie cut and LOVED it. But I've been shielding for 11 months and so it is now very grown out. I can't wait to be able to go back to the hairdresser and have it cut short again.

So I would say yes to trying a pixie, but wait until we are out of this cycle of lockdowns as you really need it cut every 4-6 weeks to keep it looking good.

lazylinguist · 16/02/2021 16:55

Wow - that looks lovely @Cocolapew! @absolutelynotfabulous - I'm thinking of going a bit darker than my natural hair colour rather than lighter!

absolutetelynotfabulous · 16/02/2021 17:21

coco I hope you weren't offended by my comment about grey hair! I didn't mean what I think you may mean. I love grey hair.

And yours looks fab. Mine is so thin and fine that if I comb it flat, I look bald.

Pinecone90 · 16/02/2021 18:08

Well you all look bloody brilliant with short hair. Can any of you who didn’t like your short hair post pics....? (Sorry!)
