If you only wash your hair once a week

So I only wash my hair once a week as it takes around 1 hour to wash and around d 6 hours to dry (thick curly long hair). I do curly girl so use sulphate/silicone free oroducts. If I wash it any more frequently, it gets dried out. I actually out leave in conditioner I the ends every day - it is the Sahara!
However, by about day 5, I feel like it doesn't smell very nice - a definite "scalp" smell.
Can anyone recommend me anything to rub into my scalp that smells nice and is CG friendly?

Genuine question how much hair are you blessed with if it takes an hour to wash
Just think maybe somewhere in the universe is a thin haired girl with a dusting of hair. Your estranged hair opposite

grassisjeweled · 06/02/2021 19:21

Another one curious about the one hour washing

Gooseygoosey12345 · 06/02/2021 19:31

Mine was very long and thick. If it's that dry it probably wants a good trim. Get it trimmed and wash it twice a week

JMAngel1 · 06/02/2021 19:35

1 hour is probably conservative I'm afraid.
I start my rubbing in a scalp oil then brush it out carefully with a bristle brush for at least 5 minutes.. Then I put either an olaplex or a coconut oil pre shampoo treatment - leave that in for at least 15 minutes. Then a sulphate free shampoo, then slather it in conditioner whilst detangling (the detangling can take at least 10 minutes - my hair gets so knotty as I can't brush it at all within the week and the curls can be almost deadlocked in places). Then I put a deep conditioner on for at least 15 minutes, rinse out then it's styling products, plopping etc. It's exhausting hence why can't do it more frequently than once weekly.

I just cut it! it just is inherently dry - it's not a condition situation - it's 3b curly hair.

That sounds exhausting! Is there any way you could do a shorter wash, more frequently? Sorry if that's a silly question, but it might be easier?

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 06/02/2021 19:41

Ok so in fairness that’s an elaborate self imposed regime, not an hour washing
You’ve introduced a lot of stages and time
Have you tried oils overnight eg marula or argan or castor and wash out in morning

Why 6 hours to dry

Maireas · 06/02/2021 19:43

Type 3b - I bet it's gorgeous, though! Shame it's hard to maintain.

AliceinBunniland · 06/02/2021 19:43

If your scalp is smelling, I think you need to wash it more often. Many people say they don't wash their hair regularly because their hair "doesn't get oily" or it's an effort but our scalp is skin too which produces oil and sweat. Try twice a week but maybe don't do the full routine both times.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 06/02/2021 19:44

3b is beautiful hair, in shape and the curls

AliceinBunniland · 06/02/2021 19:45

Also it won't be as tangled if you are washing it and brushing / combing it twice a week rather than just once.

JMAngel1 · 06/02/2021 19:45

I don't use any heat to dry - just air dry. Takes 6 hours - just sheer volume of it.
I put oil in every night before bed anyway.

Does anyone have any ideas to help scalp smell?

I got tired of CGM after a while even though it was starting to improve the condition of my hair, my arms and back couldn't hack the amount of upside down time haha!

I wash once a week too, I use a lot of scented dry shampoo which I imagine is very much not CGM approved?

Chicchicchicchiclana · 06/02/2021 19:46

An hour to wash your hair? Really?

Sometimesonly · 06/02/2021 19:47

Just think maybe somewhere in the universe is a thin haired girl with a dusting of hair.
I think it's me. It takes me 5 minutes to dry. Would love to swap OP!

AliceinBunniland · 06/02/2021 19:47

Yes our suggestions were to wash it more OP

It sounds like your hair doesn't take an hour to wash, that's a self imposed routine. The drying time is by the by, just do it early in the day so it can dry while you're doing other things.

Honestly I feel lazy about washing my hair sometimes too. I have long curly hair and aim to wash it every three days, sometimes stretch to four, but I don't wait til is starts to smell.

I hate the thought of dirt, oil and product from my hair going onto my pillow which I also put my face on!

Ragwort · 06/02/2021 19:51

Why not try a normal wash (five minutes?) and just see what happens ... I can't believe you choose to spend an hour washing your hair Shock.

Actually I only wash my hair once a week - takes a few minutes and ten mins to blow dry. No smell in between washes.

Sometimesonly · 06/02/2021 19:53

If you really don't want to wash it , could you use a dry shampoo on your scalp? Sorry I don't know if that is suitable for your hair type - mine is 1A and I do that sometimes to wait longer between washes.

AliceinBunniland · 06/02/2021 19:53

But if you really want to just mask the smell you could try dry shampoo just at the very roots and without rubbing too much as that will cause frizz or you can buy hair perfumes

Whichnamepls · 06/02/2021 19:55

I think you'll need advice from others who have your hair type as it sounds like a lot of work needs to go into keeping in manageable.

Have any hairdressers been able to give advice?

AnyFucker · 06/02/2021 19:57

Pic or you are fibbing 😁

Cocolapew · 06/02/2021 19:57

hair perfume 🙂

EachBleachBlairTrump · 06/02/2021 19:58

This is why I gave up on curly girl, mine is very long, thick and curly (somewhere between a 2C and 3A depending on length as the weight pulls it out a little bit). I wash my hair once or twice a week, I can only do two days curly or my scalp starts to feel uncomfortable if I don't wash it because of products and not being able to give it a good brush (same when I did curly girl). In winter I tend to straighten it a fair bit, I get a good 5/6 days, can brush it, just use a bit of serum and pre heat spray. In summer I wash almost every day and mainly air dry. My hair is in good condition. You need to rethink your regime.

CommanderBurnham · 06/02/2021 19:59

Dry shampoo? Or is that a no no?

redcandlelight · 06/02/2021 20:07

tbh it sounds like your regime doesn't suit your hair/scalp.
what do you do after exercise? do you just dry off a sweaty scalp?
