How desperate are you for the hairdressers to re open?

I totally appreciate that this is the smallest problem in the world currently... but dear Lord I need a hair cut! First lockdown happened just when mine was due.. managed to squeeze in a trim in during the summer, then a mini trim in September (couldn't decide whether to go shorter or not so just had the ends off). I have ridiculously fast growing hair and in a year have consequently gone from shoulder length to boob length..bra off! Which would be fab if I wasn't in my 50s with a lot of grey streaks...
Fringe is down to my teeth and looking ragged, don't dare cut it myself as my previous attempts have left me like Jonny Depp as WIlly Wonka!
People are going to be asking where I've parked my broomstick soon...

Anyone else?!

Me. Have decided to live dangerously and get DH to cut it. I have very thick, wavy, frizzy hair and have begun to look like an aging rock star from the 70s.

ClosedAuraOpenMind · 31/01/2021 22:23

me! had me hair, which is a chin length bob cut in October. Had an appointment at the start of December but cancelled it cos my hairdresser is in Edinburgh, which is a different local authority area from me. (Scotland, and the tier system we had before lock down makes it illegal for you y to o leave your council area, unless for an essential purpose)
So I not only need hairdressers to open but to be allowed to cross a local authority boundary. Sigh

LaurieFairyCake · 31/01/2021 22:31

Well I can beat that

I have extensions which are now 5 weeks overdue - so 15 weeks since I did them Shock

And I had to cut a matted lump of 8 of them out my head yesterday - after trying unsuccessfully to melt the glue

StillMedusa · 31/01/2021 22:50

Oh that's grim LaurieFairyCake I never thought about how hair with extensions must be kept up!
I'm half seriously considering chopping mine off entirely when this shitshow of a year ends.. I don't suit /am too oldandgrey for my long hair and keep eyeing the clippers...

@StillMedusa
I’m in my 50 s too, and got my long hair cut short after the last lockdown. I’m so glad I did. It’s much easier to manage than my long straggly locks. Definitely needs cut now - but I have been taking the scissors to it myself and keeping under a degree of control

PurpleDandelions · 31/01/2021 22:58

I haven't had a haircut in 14 months. Was badly overdue when the first lockdown came and have been shielding since then.
And now the fucking stuff has started falling out thanks to some new meds. I look an absolute state.

But I kind of don't care Grin

AuntieMarys · 31/01/2021 23:01

8 weeks since my last cut and colour...I normally go every 5-6 weeks. I've bought a roots retoucher which is adequate...am wearing my hair pinned up as I can't stand it hanging round my face.

DramaAlpaca · 31/01/2021 23:02

Mine's not too bad. Had a trim in early December and tidied my fringe a couple of weeks ago. I don't want to go too much longer without getting my highlights redone though.

I need to go the other direction - I’m just outside Edinburgh, my hairdresser is in Glasgow

So I managed one cut and my roots done... and now I’m slowly turning into hagrid... I mean, I like him and all, but I’d rather not look like him.

Nanalisa60 · 31/01/2021 23:13

I have not been since November 29th 2019, I usually go every two months, have a cut and highlights its a sharp Bob, well now it passed my shoulders, and I can get it in a ponytail or a bun. Turns out my natural colour is still quite blonde. So I’m quite pleased, and as I don’t go any were but for a bloody walk or to Lidl’s I’m not going to both getting it done. I really miss my old social life and can’t wait to get it back and will never take it for granted again.

StillMedusa · 31/01/2021 23:14

Ah yes the Hagrid look... my hair is not only ridiculously long now (and greying ..tho thank god I quit colouring as at least I'm not facing roots too) but it's naturally wavy and frizzy... and all this current rain means I return from every dog walk looking exactly like Hagrid.. even my dog walking coat matches Grin
To the degree that when I trudged back in the other day... Hagrid coat and leather wellies and THE hair... DH looked at me, smirked and said 'Yer a Wizard Harry!' Bastard....

I have a Mary Quant/Louise Brooks style bob, and usually go every five weeks. I was supposed to go next week, and have had to cut my fringe - I bought proper hairdressing scissors back in March which have proved a sound investment!

I feel so bad for my lovely hairdresser, who owns the salon. He worked as a stylist, saving really hard to open his own place with no debt, then had to take a loan in the first lockdown, and presumably will again.

00deed1988 · 31/01/2021 23:19

I cut my own hair tonight. To be fair I haven't been to a hairdressers in 5 years but I took a big plunge and did a Bob and fringe. Luckily I have curly hair so if it's a bit uneven I can get away with it....

Eyebrows on the other hand, I never do my own as bad experience as a teen. But did them tonight, ordered a brow set and tint. They don't look too bad but I will be taking a trip to the shops as soon as it reopens!

Turnedouttoes · 31/01/2021 23:21

I have ashy blonde hair but dark brown roots. My hair grows super fast (a year ago I had a long Bob cut and now it’s bra strap length) so my roots look completely ridiculous.

I hadn’t realised quite how bad they’d got until I have a speech at a virtual event last week and then watched it back afterwards.

I keep toying with dying it all brown just so it looks okay but I’d definitely want to go back to blonde after lockdown so don’t want to do anything I shouldn’t and I haven’t got any idea about dying hair rules

ZackaryQuack · 31/01/2021 23:25

Luckily I had a nice level bob cut in just before the November lockdown, so that's growing out nicely and doesn't need too much maintenance, the cut was done with the aim of growing my hair out. My hairdresser is actually on maternity leave until June from mid next week, so there was the plan, I wouldn't have my hair done for months (I don't trust many people with my hair)
Dh on the other hand has a fancy undercut with long hair on top with a bit of a fade and is getting that desperate he's asked me to shave his hair, however I can't do a fade, so he will end up with a one length shave.

Graciebobcat · 31/01/2021 23:32

I managed to have my haircut once last year, in the summer. Was about to have it cut when the first lockdown came, then the hairdresser was mad busy when they reopened. Was due for another cut then the November lockdown was imposed. Then hairdresser was very busy again, so I left it but got an appointment on Christmas Eve. Then we were put in Tier 4 on 18th December and hairdressers have been closed since.

My hair doesn't look too bad, I'll be keeping it longer anyway, but it would really benefit from a couple of good cuts to get rid of the split ends.

QueenPawPaws · 01/02/2021 00:40

I had a horrendous haircut in august. Curly hair, asked for inverted bob as usual
They cut the top layers short and left the back long so my front section is shorter Hmm
Off to a curly hair specialist who said "oh dear" when she saw the pic, but thankfully it's given it time to grow out a bit. Even if it's still awful Grin

grassisjeweled · 01/02/2021 01:50

I haven't had mine cut for at least a year and tbh it is annoying even me now, I'm not usually bothered by it. It's not even that long! Just wispy on the ends. The kids both need a good haircut.

grassisjeweled · 01/02/2021 01:51

FYI it was 18th December 2019 when I last had a hair cut Shock

Bluewavescrashing · 01/02/2021 02:00

I cut mine last week. It looks OK! I'm growing out my grey which is going to be painful but I'm tired of colouring. May as well do it now.

Gemma2019 · 01/02/2021 02:32

On 13 Feb it will be a whole year since I had a haircut and I normally go every 6-8 weeks for a cut and highlights or colour every second cut. I was ill or unable to get childcare both times the hairdressers were open before.

I've been using box dyes and trimming it myself and it's really long but not as bad as you would think.

The thing I desperately miss is getting my eyebrows done. It just never looks as nice when I do them myself and they are so out of shape now.

ZaraW · 01/02/2021 06:25

Haven't visited hairdresser in a year. I've been cutting my own. It's not great but at least I don't have split ends. I have an appointment next week. (I'm not in the UK).

I'm pretty desperate. Had a haircut in June, but my hair is wavy and fine and if it grows much past shoulder length it looks very limp.

Considering taking the scissors to it myself but it's layered so it'll be hard...

LouHotel · 01/02/2021 13:38

When for a strong pixie cut in early december its growing out fine and the cut will last to April. But the colour jesus christ what was I thinking short hair needs a colour every 8 weeks, I have strong white hairs coming through, currently rocking a made professor white streak.
