How desperate are you for the hairdressers to re open?

I totally appreciate that this is the smallest problem in the world currently... but dear Lord I need a hair cut! First lockdown happened just when mine was due.. managed to squeeze in a trim in during the summer, then a mini trim in September (couldn't decide whether to go shorter or not so just had the ends off). I have ridiculously fast growing hair and in a year have consequently gone from shoulder length to boob length..bra off! Which would be fab if I wasn't in my 50s with a lot of grey streaks...
Fringe is down to my teeth and looking ragged, don't dare cut it myself as my previous attempts have left me like Jonny Depp as WIlly Wonka!
People are going to be asking where I've parked my broomstick soon...

Anyone else?!

Yup! I'm 52 and used to have a bob. Now sport a straggly mop of fine hair which is past my shoulders if I don't tie it back. It just so lank.

I have no idea what to do with it now. Too long to have down - it looks just awful. Have it held back with claw clip thing all the time - and I hate them, just don't know what else to do.

Can't wait to have a proper haircut.

Extremely desperate. And for DS!

I don’t think it is a minor thing, either, keeping my hair nice is really important to me and it really affects my mood when it’s unkempt with grey roots.

Magpiecomplex · 01/02/2021 13:44

About 4" desperate... My usual chin-length bob was due a cut just as lockdown 2 happened, followed by Tier 4 and lockdown 3. I hate the feel of it on my neck but am trying to grit my teeth through this stage until I can reliably tie it back. At least it's a good straight cut, and I can do my own fringe.

Puppylucky · 01/02/2021 13:44

Me! I made the rooky mistake of going for a high maintenance assymetric crop back in Oct and then missed my next cut due to the Dec lock down. My hair now looks ridiculous Blush

minipie · 01/02/2021 13:48

I’m not hugely bothered tbh. Since I’ve always been a bit lazy about getting roots done (only go every 12 weeks usually) I’ve deliberately got just a few fine highlights. Roots therefore are not too obvious.

Likewise I don’t have a strong shaped cut, it’s just simple mid length so doesn’t look that different from usual, just longer... I do have a fringe but it’s a sideways fringe so is now a longer sideways fringe.

my low maintenance approach is finally paying dividends Grin

Any recommended tutorials for thick wavy/curly hair? There are a bewildering variety on the net.

Karmatime · 01/02/2021 17:48

I have a grown out bob, haven’t had a cut since July. It’s fine and straggley and just annoying. Worse is the colour. I’ve been using a box dye but it’s rather flat and fake looking in that old lady way. I’m 55 so need to avoid old lady looks as much as possible!

CMOTDibbler · 01/02/2021 17:51

I only get my hair cut every 6 months or so anyway, had it cut last Jan, then September, so not bothered for months yet. I cut my own fringe, and my hair is naturally silver

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 01/02/2021 17:52

Not at all desperate. I shave my head right down to number zero and I have clippers. I mean, it's better if a professional does it but .... I don't make a bad job, considering I live on my own and there's nobody to do the back bits.

DeadCertain · 01/02/2021 20:11

Desperate. I have (had!!!) a very short, very precise bob with a thick, short fringe and undercut which needs doing every 5 weeks or so. I missed and appointment in the autumn lockdown, missed one the week before Christmas as my hairdresser was off sick, have missed one in January and am desperately hoping that one I have in March can be kept. I cannot describe how terrible I look!!!

Fairyliz · 01/02/2021 20:16

For those people cutting their own hair how do you cut the back?

I have a short layered style and I've hacked a bit of of the front and top but too scared to attempt the back. Should I get DH to chop a bit off?

WouldBeGood · 01/02/2021 20:33

@Fairyliz I cut mine but it’s long. I’d be inclined just to leave yours

Iwantacookie · 01/02/2021 20:35

Me my pixie crop is starting to look like a mullet. I'm down for the first appointment when they reopen though Grin

grapewine · 01/02/2021 20:37

My naturally curly hair is so long that it is no longer curly. I'm so ready for a cut!

ame88 · 01/02/2021 20:39

Omg I am also so desperate. Had extensions put in early December. When do we think they will reopen?!
The only thing I did right is have balayage rather than highlights!

lazylinguist · 01/02/2021 20:44

I haven't had mine cut since a few days before the March lockdown! I had a bit of a style change from shoulder length to a short bob with my first highlights in years. So now it's back to shoulder length, and fortunately the few highlights seem to have faded and grown out fairly naturally. So I'm not that fussed really!

WagnerTheWehrWolf · 01/02/2021 21:32

I don't currently have any colour in my hair so roots aren't an issue for me. Length wise I had a haircut in September so it's not too bad yet.

WouldBeGood · 01/02/2021 22:47

I get my hair done every three weeks, so they need to open soon

TheChosenTwo · 01/02/2021 23:15

I’m really not bothered at all which is strange as I usually go every 8 weeks for a cut and colour. I always knew I mainly went for a catch up with my mate (who is also my hairdresser) - it’s a guaranteed 3 hours out of the house Grin
My hair is alright, last had it done in September but then my next one was meant to be during lockdown 2 in November and was cancelled.
I don’t have greys, it’s bra strap length, easy to manage and throw up when I want to.
I’m not in a rush (although will book an appointment when she reopens to support her business of course).

WhatWouldZenoDo · 02/02/2021 07:52

Same. My haair is too long. Too grey. Undercut is so long its curly. My hair is a wild frizzy mesd
