Why is is so hard to find a reasonably stylish, young girls coat that it both warm and waterproof?!?!

Every thing seems to be one or the other.
We have a waterproof wax jacket that is a bit on the thin side, a rain coat that is v thin and a joules hooded puffa type coat that is warm but can only cope with a smattering of rain. Every day I try and make a call which is the priority. Struggling to find any coats that are both unless we go down the very technical route.
Anyone found any good ones?
Zara seem to have some but she is at that odd size of about to turn 5 and the young girls range is up to age 4-5 and older girls is from age 6. They seem to have forgotten about 5 year olds.

Would highly recommend these Boden sherpa lined anoraks - warm, waterproof, nice designs, great quality. Also light enough that kids don't moan about wearing a coat :)

alexdgr8 · 30/11/2020 19:48

why don't you look at the so-called boys' ones
more likely to be practical, and better value too.

SherryPalmer · 30/11/2020 19:53

I can really recommend these:

I haven’t brought my kids a different brand of winter coat in 5 years. I buy big so they last 2 years and then pass them down/pass them on. They are warm. They are waterproof. They double as ski jackets. They go in the washing machine. My only complaint is that the prints are a bit young and my oldest dd is no longer so keen.

Marmalademouse · 30/11/2020 19:54

... also this is a cheaper version of the Boden coat - quite a few around if you search for fleece lined waterproof coat or similar. I've tried so many kids coats and this style has been by far the best.

SherryPalmer · 30/11/2020 19:55

The Sherpa lined one above is water-resistant not truly waterproof.

Paddingtonthebear · 30/11/2020 19:55

Muddy puddles, have bought every year and I buy when they are in the sale, DD has a lovely bright green parka this season from them which is both waterproof and warm

Marmalademouse · 30/11/2020 19:57

@SherryPalmer ah yes I see that's true - had assumed was waterproof as we've had it for 1 year + and always found it manages really well in rain.

mogtheexcellent · 30/11/2020 20:03

Muddy puddles or the boden ski jacket. Dd has had both and I wouldnt have anything else.

user1825894133270 · 30/11/2020 20:08

Sorry, why is it such a priority for a 4-nearly-5 year old to have a "stylish" coat that it's more important than being dry and warm?

shenanigans5 · 30/11/2020 20:12

Hatley puffer jackets have lovely fleecy lining, thick padding and are pretty rainproof. I got one half price off Amazon.

Didyousaynutella · 30/11/2020 20:14

User It’s important too her and too me. She is very interested in clothes. Refuses point blank to wear anything that is remotely boy. She has two brothers and will not wear her older brothers hand me downs. So boy clothes are not an option. And yes I want her to look nice. I don’t see why that is an issue. This is a style and beauty board. I just want it too look nice and be warm and waterproof.
I like the sherp lined anoracks. Have had before. But the patterns are a bit babyish now for her I think.

Boden ski jackets or HandM. Fully waterproof, warm and look great IMO.

Atalune · 30/11/2020 20:17

Maybe even a kids NorthFace one.

Nix2020 · 30/11/2020 20:19

Mayrol all the way, it's my favourite brand for kids. Stylish and practical

NothingTraLaLa · 30/11/2020 20:21

Lands End Expedition parkas; waterproof and very warm.

purplemunkey · 30/11/2020 20:22

We’ve got a nice parka from verbaudet. Warm and water repellent. Worth a look? www.vertbaudet.co.uk/girls/coats-jackets.htm?intnavid=l_girls_coats-jackets&originProductId=702050363

Didyousaynutella · 30/11/2020 20:23

Marmalade we have a few of the lighthouse ones in the house ( the thinner ones) and have been coveting the longer padded one for a while, but never in stock in her size. Maybe next year I who’ll snaffle one.

I have muddy puddles thick waterproof parkas for the boys but don’t think she would go for them. Not girly enough for her. They are lovely though.

Will look up that brand hand m and check out the boden ski jackets. Thanks.

I find water resistant is adequate for a school coat. Next, Boden, La Redoute all do them. If you’re going to be out for long walks in wet weather you’d need something more outdoorsy like a Regatta parka.

WotsitWiggle · 30/11/2020 20:28

What about something from Millets? Peter Storm or North Face will have waterproof and warm.

imamearcat · 30/11/2020 20:28

I just got this for DD. It looks quite nice on her.

HappyHedgehog247 · 30/11/2020 20:33

We have a regatta parka in Navy and it looks smart enough for school.

BikeRunSki · 30/11/2020 20:39

H&M ski jackets are superb and very priced. Also have a look at Trespass, Regatta and Dare2B.

ThatDirection · 30/11/2020 20:44

I used to buy Regatta waterproof parkas when my girls were young primary acol aged. So much easier to just have one school coat during the winter. They came in all sorts of colours. Mine had a deep l lum colour. I know they're not the trendiest brand but the quality was good abs they lasted 2 winters.

Didyousaynutella · 30/11/2020 20:46

Had another look at boden and there are some plainer ones. Love this in the soft bluebell blue.:

www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/cosy-waterproof-parka-soft-bluebell/sty-g2341-blu?cat=C1_S13_G2
But unfortunately not in her size. But nice if anyone is after the same sort of thing. The nave one is nice too.

Thanks purple monkey I think that verbaudet one is just the kind of thing we are after. Not quite as expensive as the boden.

Think will order after have checked everything else out and procrastinated for a bit!
