Black cross body bag budget £1000. Gucci Marmont?

I've got a budget of around £1000 and would love a black cross body bag for Christmas. I really like the Gucci Marmont bags in black leather however my friend has this in black velvet so I'm not sure if I should go for this. Any other suggestions? Thanks

I like it! Especially as it has gold hardware & im liking gold jewellery at present which would go with it.
It also seems to be a useful shape & size... if you have the money then go for it!

However. It may be a little awkward if you are out with your friend & both carrying label & type bag.
Depends how much that bothers you.

For example a friend & I both bought the same waterproof parka - mine in navy, hers in khaki but the same style. If it's raining when we meet we text first to check we're not wearing matching coats!

It's difficult as being friends often means you have similar tastes.

I know! She has the velvet one in a slightly different shape but still very similar. I'm just wondering if there's anything as nice out there. I've had a look but nothing is catching my eye.

How about the Mulberry Alexa? Just relaunched for the 10th anniversary... I'm very tempted!

@user159 wow I love it. That's so lovely and maybe not as blingy (is that a word?) as the Gucci one.

I have the Gucci soho disco as a black crossbody and it’s great. Much more spacious than it looks.

I know what you mean. I think that's why it appeals to me as it's casual but can be dressed up! No sign of returning to office wear anytime soon so my winter will be in my casual coat and boots - also with a small child the crossbody means it ticks all the boxes. They do it in three sizes!

@Mirrorxx I really love the disco bag but wondered if I had missed the boat with it as it's been around a few years. Good to know it's more spacious than it looks as that was slightly putting me off. I wish I bought it a few years ago.

I really like the black Gucci but depends how often you’d be twinning with your friend (and whether this bothers you)

@ThirteenOClock that's gorgeous too. I've never bought a YSL bag before. I somehow feel safer spending the cash on a Gucci or Mulberry but can't explain why 🤷‍♀️

I have the Marmont in that size but in red and I use it all the time - it is really spacious (fits a small pack of Wet Wipes, a nappy, my phone and my keys) so works when out with the kids but also looks nice in the evening.

I do like the velvet as well and considered the dark blue as a Christmas treat to myself but i don’t think it would wear well. I imagine it fading and scuffing quite easily and it feels quite wintery.

The Marmont is my favourite but my pal has it and I don't want to get the same one.

Does it really matter? I’m sure I have bags the same as my friends! How about this - it’s slightly different?

I have several Gucci and several Mulberry and much prefer the Gucci. I can’t remember last time I used a Mulberry, I dunno why, they just feel a bit frumpy? (No offence intended!!)

Def the YSL. I agree Mulberry is a bit dull and Gucci is very done,

I like the Marmont but yes potentially issue for matching with friend.

I was going to suggest YSL camera bag, they are less ubiquitous than Gucci.

Ooh yes good idea. Matches often do like x off if you spend x so sign up for emails. Not necessarily around black friday though.

I have the disco and marmont
Disco is leather and marmont velvet, I only really use the marmont in the evenings as it is quite delicate due to the fabric. If it’s a every day bag I’d go with leather, I use my disco day to day and it’s durable and a great size x

I really love the Gucci disco. I like the fact it doesn't have the gold Gs on it so I would use it more during the day.

I want to get a Disco, but now I'm eyeing up the ySL because of this thread.
