Are these jeans a lost cause on me?

Hi there,

Looking for some advice as to whether or not I should return some jeans I recently bought. I’ve worn skinnies since forever as I have always found them to be comfy and flattering. However, I was keen to try out a fresher, more modern style. I’m early thirties and had a baby this year so whilst I’m back to my old dress size, I do have a bit of a mum tum unsurprisingly! I went for ‘boyfriend midrise’ cut but I think they are not particularly flattering on me... I was really excited to look a bit more current so I’m a bit disappointed! Can anyone provide some styling tips or are they a lost cause?? Many thanks!

I’m certainly not loving them! Maybe look up celebs like Alexa Chung who seem to wear that style of jeans effectively. See how they’re styling them. I’m guessing a decent boot and a different top might make them look more current.

I don't like the stripe. The shape is ok for summer, not winter.

ParisianLady · 18/11/2020 14:49

They're far too big in the leg, I'd try something slimmer but still in a similar style. Perhaps with less fuss on the leg too.

P.s you have amazing ankles!!! < major envy >

SpillingTheTea · 18/11/2020 14:50

You have a lovely figure! I'm sorry but those jeans are doing nothing for it. Makes you look straight down and just doesn't look right with your figure.
If they were thinner on the leg I think they'd suit your figure better.

CarolVordermansBum · 18/11/2020 14:52

You look absolutely great, but I really dislike the jeans. Sorry!

blondie87 · 18/11/2020 14:52

I really appreciate all your feedback- thank you! They are going back; I desperately wanted to like them but you’ve all confirmed what I thought.
Below is what I usually wear; can anyone recommend a pair of jeans that aren’t skinny but might be better? I’m hopeless with things like this!

Also what footwear would you wear with them? I have roll up jeans but wear them in the summer with sandals/birkenstock. I haven't worn them in winter as I don't know what shoes to wear with them.

I don't like the stripe on them either.

SpillingTheTea · 18/11/2020 14:53

Something like this would suit your figure much better.
Slim boyfriend jeans!

@QueenBlueberries the jeans definitely posed a shoe dilemma... As with my normal style of just tuck them into boots.

I thought about ordering those jeans OP, they don't look like I thought they would! Looks to me like they come in too narrow at the ankle. They give an odd profile.

blondie87 · 18/11/2020 14:55

Ah @SpillingTheTea that’s more like it! I’ll go and investigate. Thank you!

@pickingdaisies yes they are not what I expected!

No problem. The shoe shown in the picture are good shoes to wear with them just a simple trainer style shoe. I've seen people wear boots with them too

I think they look fine. These new loser styles of jeans aren’t designed to 'flatter'.

I wear similar types of jeans with DMs or hi top Vans, usually with knee high socks to keep my legs warm!

ThursdayLastWeek · 18/11/2020 15:02

Although, I find that if I have even the tiniest doubt about something new, no amount of trying it on in the future/when I’m slimmer/in the summer makes any difference and it might as well get returned.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 18/11/2020 15:07

you are a bib, braces and a silly hat away from whosit in the Dexy's Midnight Runners in those jeans, they really are an odd shape

@SpillingTheTea 's pic is a much better look.

pickingdaisies · 18/11/2020 15:12

@SpillingTheTea where are those jeans from? I like them!

Retrovibe89 · 18/11/2020 15:12

I bought some girlfriend style jeans from joules earlier in the year which aren’t as baggy as a boyfriend jean so more flattering imo. Size down though!

MacbookHo · 18/11/2020 15:14

I preferred the boyfriend jeans to the skinnies on you. Your lovely long legs look a tad parsnip in skinnies. What about straight legged jeans?

MissBridgetJones · 18/11/2020 15:18

@SpillingTheTea

Something like this would suit your figure much better. Slim boyfriend jeans!
Where are these from please? @SpillingTheTea
blondie87 · 18/11/2020 15:20

This has been really helpful; I’ll look into slim boyfriend and girlfriend.

You clearly have an amazing bod I think maybe they are just too big on you.

bellagogosdead · 18/11/2020 15:25

I think they look nice too, maybe a little roomy, but that's the fashion.

Atalune · 18/11/2020 15:29

Slim mom jeans- farleigh from asos are nice

White classic leather trainers or ankle boots, but never tuck your jeans in!

The top is a bit....naff, looks like Joules? Try wide v neck top from warehouse or Zara, half tucked in at the front.
