I want to build my own eye shadow palette - is this still a thing?

Feeling minimalist I hate having shades I never use. I want to build my own palette and I thought that there were brands who did this, mac, nyx, but when you go to their websites, it doesn't seem to be offered (except in a very very limited way, only a few shades to choose from).

Somebody's missing a trick.

Trinny London? They are all individual pots and stack together.

supadupapupascupa · 07/11/2020 08:37

I've built a few with Urban Decay but the colours I want are never in stock

supadupapupascupa · 07/11/2020 08:39

I don't think they're missing a trick, I think they're making a fortune by building palettes you get fed up of and then buy more......

If you search ‘empty magnetic makeup pallet’ you’ll get results in various sizes.

I buy single eyeshadows in colours I know I’ll use from Anastasia Beverly Hills and Makeup Geek. Also, look at Nabla and Sugarpill on the likes of Cult Beauty/Beauty Bay. You can search for swatches to get an idea of what they will look like on your skin.

You can also take eyeshadows out of most kinds of bulky packaging (like MAC) with a thin spatula and they should be in a magnetic pan which you can transfer to your pallet too.

E.L.F. and Ere Perez both sell “base trays” and individual colours to fill them with... hours of fun..!

EatPrayYoga · 07/11/2020 08:58

You can buy a palette and eye shadow pans to go in it from MAC

EatPrayYoga · 07/11/2020 08:59

But buying one palette is generally much cheaper

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 07/11/2020 09:00

MAC do this in as big or small as you want.

Deathraystare · 07/11/2020 16:06

I am trying to remember the name of the shop where they had loads of pt them together kits for eyes lips cheeks. It was either a Polish or ustralian make. INGLOT! just remembered it!

OwlOne · 07/11/2020 16:15

I've spent ages on the mac website today, quite fun! but all the prices are in dollars. I can't see that they have a UK site, only mac products on other shops' sites.

Oh! Inglot! Thank you @Deathraystare I will have a look now.

Yes, if I could GO to a shop this'd be no problem but we're doing a half hearted lockdown in Ireland right now. I can't wait to go to a shopping centre. I don't think I've been to one all year. After a year of not caring I'm longing to stroll around looking at makeup and drinking coffee and browsing the gifts that I want myself.

Yes I get it. I can't GO into a shop either but I assumed you'd be able to order online.

purplemunkey · 07/11/2020 16:20

Dixey Cosmetics are single shadows that clip together into a stack. Beautiful textures and colours. They can all be used wet as a liner.

OwlOne · 07/11/2020 16:27

Oh wow, I missed all the suggestions the first time.

Thanks everybody. I didn't know urban decay did this @supadupapupascupa. I like their ranges, I"ll have a look.

I'll google magnetic tins now thanks @Medea11

I will have a look at Elf as well

Thanks for that link @TheGreatDiamondo HOW did I not find that link when I was googling ?!?! and thanks @purplemunkey

I'll have a look at Trish McEvoy as well

I wish I could go to a shop and have a proper look at the shades, see if they're matte or shimmery. It can be hard to tell on line.

m.maccosmetics.co.uk/products/13840/products/makeup/eyes/eyeshadow These are their glittery shadows, first link was matte Smile

SliceOfFriedGold · 07/11/2020 16:42

I ordered two empty magnetic palettes from Amazon and depotted some of my other palettes into it - one is the shades I use a lot, the other is the shades I don't (but don't want to get rid of just in case!).

I have to say I did this with mac when I was in New York a few years ago, but the quality of the eyeshadows weren’t as nice as urban decay or it cosmetics which are the ones I currently use.

EatPrayYoga · 07/11/2020 17:09

It is hard to pick make up colours online but if you see something that interests you then you could Google swatches and that might give you a better idea

Deathraystare · 08/11/2020 08:11

Here we are. Years ago I put three lovely green eyeshadows together. I did a lip one too.
