Does anyone use a facial oil instead of moisturiser?

If so what do you rate? I find moisturiser’s don’t agree with my skin, they block my pores & always break me out.
I’ve tried so many so I’m trying to look into whether a facial oil will be ok.

I also break out easily from moisturiser so use pure jojoba oil instead. It’s brilliant- Totally noncomedogenic and leaves my skin feeling really soft. It’s recommended for acne prone skin.

Have you tried serums? I'm a complete beginner compared to lots of people on this board but I recently added serum to my routine and now use that rather than moisturiser a lot of the time.

swishswashy · 11/10/2020 08:28

I use a serum followed by a face oil. I'm using a neom one at the moment but not loyal to any one brand I like to mix it up. I love the feel of an oil, especially at night.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 11/10/2020 08:29

I used jojoba oil after seeing a thread on here about how great it was. For the first week it was, then my head started breaking out in these tiny little lumps. Took months for them to go away. Nknidea why that happened.

Rosehip oil is lovely and gives a glow. I had the trilogy set which had a moisturiser, spray and cleanser as well as the oil but I have seen the Neal's yard one recommended as well.

Sammysquiz · 11/10/2020 09:09

I use one from the Body Shop - it’s called something ridiculous like ‘Oils of Life’. It’s made my skin really smooth & glowy.

FourEyesGood · 11/10/2020 09:28

I’ve tried various facial oils, but my favourite is a cheapie Vitamin E one from Superdrug. My skin is combination and sensitive; this oil is the best for me. It’s only about £4 and is usually on offer too!

I started using this Garnier oil at night about 4 weeks ago and haven't had a spot on my chin or anywhere else since.
I bought this Garnier toner at the same time and I use a facial oil with SPF instead of a cream moisturiser in the day.

I have had spots on my chin since puberty, those "where did that come from" sort as well as blackheads so this is such a pleasant experience.
They smell lovely too.

I found it was a case of trial and error but, for what it's worth, I switch between almond oil, avocado oil and wheat germ oil. I don't like so called 'facial oils' - too perfumey for me.

Qwom · 11/10/2020 09:45

I use the ordinary matrixyl serum and 100% plant squalene oil 👌🏻

strawberriesandpecans · 11/10/2020 12:02

I'm using the same Garnier one as IamEarthymama and really like it. I've got really sensitive skin and it hasn't caused redness/breakout

BikeRunSki · 11/10/2020 12:05

Another vote for Superdrug vit E oil, or bio oil.

I have some Boots no7 facial oil, but am struggling with the idea of putting oil on my face as I don't like the feel of it. Doesn't it just leave a greasy film on your skin, or does it sink in?

Emma Hardie brilliance facial oil is amazing- alas I have run out but it's on my Christmas list.

notapizzaeater · 11/10/2020 14:35

Does it not rub off on your pillow ? My mum loves face oil's but only ever uses them on holiday when it's not her pillowcase ! (Thinking Xmas here ....)

SecretWitch · 11/10/2020 14:38

Drunk Elephant Marula oil is my go to oil

SundayReilly · 11/10/2020 15:58

Boots Botanics facial is lovely
Currently using Garnier one its better than I expected.
I use retinol at night after cleansing -leave an hour or so.
Then apply Formula night cream(M and S)-again leave an hour or so .
Eye cream if I remember.
The final step when I get into bed is the oil.
Love it.
But I am mid 50s and need loads of moisture - always had oily skin but not now!
Really love a facial oil my fav product.

Joeyandpacey · 11/10/2020 16:27

Green people rosehip oil is nice. I rely on squalane oil mostly. It’s the bizness. Currently using biossance but most brands have good ones.

Coffee4Queen · 11/10/2020 16:42

deviantskincare.com/ A UK indie brand developed by a lady who suffered with really bad acne. The oil is lovely

Shmithecat2 · 11/10/2020 16:44

Rosehip oil all the way. Pai, Trilogy, Inkey List all do good Rosehip oil.

CremantCharlie · 12/10/2020 13:23

I use a moisturiser in the morning, and an oil at night. I favour The Ordinary Marula Oil. I really rate it.

Tinks15 · 12/10/2020 21:30

Thanks everyone!

@shivermetimbers77 - what brand of jojoba oil do you use? Sounds like this would suit my skin.

@FusionChefGeoff never looked into serums, do you recommend one?

Thanks @Qwom I’ve been seeing people rate the squalene oil.

Don’t know anything about Marula oil, will look at this also.

Literally any brand is fine as long as it’s 100% jojoba oil. You can get it on Amazon and also at Holland and Barrett. Lasts ages. Also great for hair. I’m so annoyed with myself that I spent so many years and so much money on expensive moisturisers and this stuff is better than any of them.
