If leggings aren't the answer, what is?

Am three months post CS and still have weird flabby puckered tummy but am trying to sort out my wardrobe. During pregnancy I wore lots of black Uniqlo leggings- I had some before for going for walks etc but looked in the mirror today and definitely not flattering!

What is the trouser option that works when you have a tummy, want to be comfortable but still want to look stylish. Have to go high waisted to contain the bulge but jeans are never really comfy enough. Might be stuck with this post CS tummy forever...

Just to mention its worth a look at the Tesco current high waist jeans... I have similar problems, have been trying out high waist jeans for months trying to find a pair that work and now have the first comfortable jeans ever, love them.

Pegase · 12/09/2020 14:45

Ooh thanks wouldn't have thought of that.

Jeggings?

Ninkanink · 12/09/2020 14:49

Jeggings.

Uniqlo Ultra Stretch leggings trousers look like skinny fit trousers and the material feels like proper trouser material not jersey, but are very stretchy and soft. They also have Ultra Stretch high rise jeans here as well as some smart office-style trousers with two-way stretch. I've always been very apple-shaped with a large stomach and narrow hips and Uniqlo has become my go to for trousers.

If you want the jersey feel of leggings, but not actual leggings, then Lands' End Starfish jersey trousers are good. I wear the slim leg version to the gym. There is also a straight leg version but because my hips are quite narrow I find they look like wide-leg on me. They are a bit expensive but Lands' End often do a 30% or 40% off full price offer if you sign up for their newsletter.

Topshop Jamie jeans are my go to high waisted jeans and always find them comfy. Almost 2 months post section here an just got back into my bigger sized pair so happy!

ChequerBoard · 12/09/2020 15:14

Snag tights - high waisted and comfortable, sucks everything in, loads of colour options. Will work with loads of dress / pinafore and shoe/boot combinations.

@BlackAmericanoNoSugar those Uniglo leggings look great but I'm a bit unsure about sizings. Do you have any idea what size to get for a U.K. size 10 please?

viccat · 12/09/2020 18:57

Lucy & Yak Alexa trousers tick all your boxes - high waist, super comfortable and can be dressed up or down, with or without a belt etc.

I'm not sure for a size 10 bellnique, I'm a size18-20 and I usually wear XXL. Underneath the sizes they have a 'find your perfect fit' thing which takes details of height, weight, waist shape, hip shape etc and makes a recommendation.

bellinique · 13/09/2020 00:33

@BlackAmericanoNoSugar thank you for the reply, I'll have a look at that Smile

Does anyone else find a tummy bulge is visible under jeggings? With a lot of high waisted trousers the styling is to tuck in a top but for me that then emphasises the fact my stomach isn't flat. Or should I just wear something loose over the top? It's the whole 'are you pregnant' 'no I had the baby two years ago' thing I want to avoid. Even other women, certainly young ones or teens, seem unaware that you don't necessarily have a washboard stomach like a celeb after having babies Hmm

I have a c section Tummy and find a mid rise jean with a proper button fastening/jean waist band the most flattering.
I wear a chunky belt with them and French tuck a shirt or blouse in.
The belt disguises the tummy and the French tuck gives definition to my shape.
I find Zara mid rise straight leg the best.

funtimefrank · 13/09/2020 09:11

Are those Lucy and yak trousers hugely voluminous?

They look very much like something I want but i'm short and would be a L - am a 14 but big arse, thighs and lower tummy so fine line between flatteringly loose and clown makingly huge and unflattering

Sickoffamilydrama · 13/09/2020 10:37

I wear high waisted a lot as well and it does work if you get the right ones along with paperbag waisted trousers.
Next have loads and Boden I search for highwaisted, paperbag or belted trousers.

Coldcough · 13/09/2020 10:40

Yeah, mid rise you don't see the tummy.

MiddlesexGirl · 13/09/2020 10:43

I gave up on any form of fitted trousers. So either yoga pants for casual (more flattering than leggings) or skirts which are 100x more comfortable than any fitted trousers including jeans.

MiddlesexGirl · 13/09/2020 10:44

Mid-rise cuts right across the tummy so (a) you do see it and (b) it's uncomfortable

Sickoffamilydrama · 13/09/2020 10:47

If you want ideas I regularly post on here and you'll see me hiding it in lots of ways. Not that I'm an expert although I am getting more of an understanding what works.

This sounds like what I need for my post lockdown belly. Also been living in leggings but need new jeans. What is the sizing like on the Tesco jeans? And is it clear that they are high-waisted given you still can't try on?
Coldcough · 13/09/2020 10:56

Not for me.

Pegase · 13/09/2020 13:34

Ooh thanks @Sickoffamilydrama will check it out. The Lucy and Yak look definitely comfy but agree about feeling worried about them being comedy voluminous.

I do love a skirt but again normally go for fitted which now make me look pregnant. I think I'm not very good at a casual skirt or a casual trouser!

OP posts:
MichelleofzeResistance · 13/09/2020 13:40

RockingMyFifties the sizing is pretty accurate standard, I'm a 14 and found them a straightforward fit (bootleg, high waist), and they're the highest waisted jeans I've yet found that still look like 'usual' jeans. I have a rise that goes on forever so almost everything sits on my hips, and these are the first ones that truly do fasten at my waist. A pair was given to me by a family member knowing my never ending quest for a pair of comfy jeans, I hadn't even thought to look in Tesco, but immediately went out and bought a second pair when I tried these on.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 13/09/2020 14:21

Thank you @MichelleofzeResistance , will take a look next time I'm Tesco
