Does anyone still use a purse?

Honestly can't remember the last time I carried or used cash. If you use a card holder, how do you get on with it? And any recommendations for a nice leather one - up to £100 ish?

I have a black leather zip around Michael Kors one.

It has eight cars slots, two slots for notes & the coin bit in the middle, plus I can fit my iPhone in it securely if I don’t want to take a bag out.

Boatonthehorizon · 06/09/2020 22:00

I don't use cash. All on card inc taxis.
Only place that doesn't is my son's barber shop and I just go to cash machine opposite while he's in there, and give them the change. I don't like it though!
Even farmers market stalls take cards!

Sheknowsaboutme · 06/09/2020 22:01

Of course i use a purse. I use a lot of cash. Prefer cash to card. I take X amount out each week and spend that.

I have a thing about banks watching where i spend MY money so i use cash where I can.

june2007 · 06/09/2020 22:11

Lots of places don,t except card for less then £5.00. Also used for work, also kids pocket money.

stealthbanana · 06/09/2020 22:12

I have a great smythson one that has room
for cash & receipts / extra cards etc but is the size of a phone basically.

This one, highly recommend: www.smythson.com/uk/navy-panama-4cc-flat-coin-purse-1023135.html?cgid=131

I Still have a purse. It just sits at the bottom of my handbag. I only ever take my handbag to work. I still use cash occasionally.

I have discovered these amazing things though called pockets. Grin

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 06/09/2020 23:03

Off the back of this thread I looked out a small, proper purse that I usually use for going out at night (ha) or gigs - found a £10 note in it!

OchonAgusOchonO · 06/09/2020 23:09

@Chewbecca I use a purse that also holds my phone & swings on my wrist like this - replaces my bag most of the time too!

Love that. What size phone does it hold? I have an iPhone 8 Plus so need a reasonably decent size.

hammeringinmyhead · 06/09/2020 23:34

I tried a card case - like this:

www.fossil.com/en-gb/products/logan-card-case/SL7925200.html

I just have too much stuff and it won't go on an app. Local café loyalty cards, stamps, 2 library cards, soft play membership card, Odeon Limitless and the gift card they send me, driving license, etc. I need about 10 slots plus a slidey pocket for the cardboard ones. I also don't like to rely on my phone. What if my battery died?

mogtheexcellent · 06/09/2020 23:39

Last time I used cash was on Sat to pay for lunch with the FIL as the cafe didnt accept his payment by phone (applepay??).

It will take a while for all places to catch up with technology.

Bella2020 · 06/09/2020 23:45

I still use a purse. Much smaller than some I've used in the past, yes, but I couldn't manage without one.

TheWashingMachine · 07/09/2020 05:17

I have a purse. I carry plasters, receipts, cards, stamps, plus a safety pin in it. I use a small handbag, in it, I have headache pills, a pen, a very small hairbrush, lip balm, my phone and keys.

Chewbecca · 07/09/2020 07:58

ochon I have a google pixel which is fine, you’d definitely want to check the measurements first.

OchonAgusOchonO · 07/09/2020 08:48

@Chewbecca - thank you. I can compare your phone to mine to check. The measurements on the website aren't terribly helpful as they give the size of the purse but not the size of the phone pocket.

Hailtomyteeth · 07/09/2020 09:00

Two purses - English money, Irish money. But I mainly use cards.

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/09/2020 09:22

I’ve got a nice Karen millen one I don’t know where it is though. Everything’s on my Apple Pay.

You don’t even need stocard @birkenstocks4ever, you can put loyalty cards onto applepay.

Scarby9 · 07/09/2020 09:25

Always used a purse until Covid. Now I have some change in a tub in the car for parking meters (though many only take cards now) or shopping trolley, and just carry my cards in my phone. So few shops are taking cash now round here.

BeaLola · 07/09/2020 09:25

I have a Hermes fake from Turkey 🙃 it is beautiful leather though and lasting well.
The Stocard app thing sounds good - any of you who use it have any negatives about it ? I'm thinking I could add my hardly ever used ones to it for the rare occasion I shop in the high street (country dweller so online mostly) like Waterstones or Boots.

The other thing that a poster mentions was a special case required to protect the cards on the app ? You can tell I'm an oldie and out of date Blush

birkenstocks4ever · 07/09/2020 20:31

@Fluffycloudland77 I'm an Android user so not got Apple pay.

@BeaLola I have nothing negative to say about the Stocard app. The boots scanner sometimes has problems but never had an issue with any of the others

Have been researching nice card holders for my Christmas list 😁

I also bought an RFID blocking card from Amazon to put in my current purse. It arrived this morning and I tried it at the co-op self service till today and it works!

I live in an inner city and loads of places only take cash. I have a leather wallet that holds cards, keys, coins, notes and my phone. It was 8 quid from to max.

RingtheBells · 07/09/2020 21:07

I still use one as I have a lot of cards and coupons also it’s not worn out yet, it’s a large leather M&S purse with blocking RFID and I got it for £1, they had forgotten to reduce it in the sale and I took it to the till to pay and got a pleasant surprise. I always have a bag anyway so a purse goes in it, I need a bag even more nowadays with all the Covid stuff like masks and sanitiser that needs taking everywhere

MyPersona · 07/09/2020 21:12

@HowLongToXmas

What about when you need coins? For shopping trolleys or car parks for example? Where do you keep those if you are not carrying a purse? My purse is huge, filled with cards, receipts and coins. I love it but it's big and weighs a ton.
I keep a trolley token on my key ring just in case and use my phone for parking and all paying.
