Is there a moral restriction on the number of coats and jackets a person should own?

how many do you own? I have 1 summer / 1 winter / 1 smart jacket for work / 1 raincoat + probably a couple of old ones that should go to Oxfam.

Not unless you are out shopping with my DD and she will then point blank tell you that you have every coat/jacket that you could need, plus extra, for every kind of weather situation you may find yourself in. Then she will direct you away from the outerwear. She's equal opportunity, DH gets it also.

She's moved back home after uni, so these types of purchases may have to be slipped into the house stealthily

No. I've got all of the coats and jackets. All of them. They have their own cupboard. Doesn't matter that I live in one of the rainiest areas of the UK and need a warm waterproof and a thin one and that's it.......

Have a wardrobe for the coats and a cupboard for the jackets. . Most of my clothes are ‘thrifted’ or eBay though, not that I’m spending a fortune.

Jackets are my vice. Outer every day coats aren't as exciting but a nice blazer or biker jacket etc that's a different story. I bet if I was brave enough to count them I've got about 30. I bought 4 during lockdown when I had nowhere to wear them!

Dh had 24 or so at the last count.

Not counted recently though.

What I am taking from this thread is that 25 coats is the Target. And currently I have ground to make up.

Coats for work purposes don't count right? You have to have them, so they don't count?

Coats for practical use are invisible to this count. Here we only have to confess the number of divine coats we could resist.

I'm nearly up there with Flo, but several belonged to my long deceased great aunt, and date back to the 1950s and 1960s.

Far too many but I love coats, I would feel deprived if I had any less. I too have a daughter who tells me I don’t need any more and guides me away but thankfully she no longer lives here and I can get them in without her knowing. I do sometimes sell one though (and then buy 3 more)

Not in my opinion. My fiancé in contrast thinks differently. One reason I am resisting him getting rid if his car and just using mine. Is 5 of my coats / jackets live on the back seat of my car

Every time I buy a coat or jacket, I tell myself its to replace one that I'm charity shopping/binning. But then I wash the old one to take the charity shop, and it looks so good I keep it. I now have a wardrobe of coats and jackets amounting to about 25.

*Disclaimer - I'm too fat for a lot of them, but keep them as weight loss incentive.

I hope not, I do wear a coat though probably 9 months of the year when I go out so they are all needed, I also have about 25...

Depends what you call a jacket! I have a big coat, rain coat, thin coat, long coat, going out coat. But my jacket list is quite long.. denims.. leathers.. khaki.. then there's zip through hoodies to think about
