Shampoo bars

I have recently switched from body wash to natural soaps. No plastic and they smell so divine, it's like being in a spa and skin feels soft. Want to switch to shampoo bars and was wondering whether anyone had any recommendations please. And do you also use a conditioner bar too?

Oh and not Lush please :)

I have tried lots and the Lush ones are definitely the best for me. The M&S grapefruit shampoo bar is ok. Their conditioner bar is useless. Does nothing and does not lather at all. I use conditioner bars most days but a couple of days a week I do use normal conditioner otherwise my hair gets too dry.

Sharpkat · 08/08/2020 19:51

Argh! Cross post so I recommended Lush Blush

HoneysuckIejasmine · 08/08/2020 19:52

thesoapmine.co.uk/product-category/hair_care/

Love them, been using for about a year now. It's an independent business run by one woman in North Wales, so you can know that you're helping a family and not a bunch if mysogynists corperate entity.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 08/08/2020 19:54

I use both shampoo and conditioner from The Soap Mine. Conditioner lasts for ages so tend to buy in ratios of 2:1 shampoo:conditioner. Although I think it's more like 5:1 in truth!

Her soaps and bath bombs are great too. And face bars. The only plastic product I use now is toothpaste.

seaweedhead · 08/08/2020 19:55

I've tried a few. The best so far is the Faith in Nature coconut and shea butter one.
I've also found the Suma Alternative conditioner bars good- easy to apply and a little goes a long way.

vanitythynameisnotwoman · 08/08/2020 19:55

Etsy - have tried a few but Shabby Heart Skincare is my favourite - don't need conditioner with hers and I use soap including from there in the shower instead of shower gel now too.

desperatelyseekingcaffeine · 08/08/2020 19:56

I use a lamazuna chocolate shampoo bar which is lovely. Tried a few conditioner bars but left my hair lank. Have just used alter/native conditioner bar for last 2 weeks and it's great.

Lovetoridemybicycle · 08/08/2020 19:57

I've started using kinkind, it's working really well and no transition bad hair. I'm looking for a face soap so may try The soap mine

pawpawpawpaw · 08/08/2020 19:59

I like Friendly: www.friendlysoap.co.uk/shampoo/ I know there can be problems with hard water. I'm in London and get good results. I prefer to co-wash so I'm trying the conditioner bars next.

NewCatMummy · 08/08/2020 20:02

I’m using the gruum one at the moment- leaves my hair squeaky clean so I use leave in argon conditioner afterwards. Ive got a nuudy one but haven’t used it yet. Have also switched to bar soap (in s sisal drawstring bag) in the shower and bar soap by the sink recently- last for ages, cheap and obv less plastic so all good.

Aragog · 08/08/2020 20:07

I know you say no to lush but my experience of trying several is that Lush have been, by far, the best ones for me.

Dh has been happy with other brands we have used, but I've found the others we've tried have made my hair look and feel more great and lank.

I also prefer to still use a conditioner as well (again I use Lush's conditioner bar.)

Might be worth just ordering one at a time and trying a few different ones until you have the one that suits you best.

scrappydappydoo · 08/08/2020 20:07

I’d like to try shampoo bars but am always put off by all this vinegar rinse stuff. I have coloured hair and just want to wash it in the shower, bung a bit of conditioner, rinse and done or even better a two in one... our water is very hard. Any suggestions?

undercoverhero74 · 08/08/2020 20:10

I use the grum brightening one and it is fabulous!! It leaves my hair clean, shiny and smelling wonderful. I have it on subscription and 1 bar lasts me two months so definitely cost effective.

Elmo230885 · 08/08/2020 20:15

sohosoaps.co.uk/ pretty good range, their body soaps are define too

Maxineputyourredshoeson · 08/08/2020 20:16

I also use the Gruum ones and absolutely love them. They often have special offers on so you just pay postage or something like that. I’ve also recommended them to friends who have really liked them. My two DD’s (8 & 10) love them and use them with no issues.

Elmo230885 · 08/08/2020 20:16

Forgot to add, def get a shampoo bar drying bag. Currently reduced to 75p

RedPandaFluff · 08/08/2020 20:17

Ethique shampoo bars are great - and they do a conditioner one too. Both smell delicious,

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 08/08/2020 20:25

Funky soap company here for shampoo and conditioner.

I love the friendly soap company face bar, the black one. It's wonderful.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 08/08/2020 20:28

Another one for Funky Soap. It took a month or so for my hair to transition and I hated it at first, but bear with it. It's worth the first month and I have loved it ever since.

YorkshireParentalPerson · 08/08/2020 20:29

This one all the way for me, my hair had never felt so nice

Love the sandalwood from oxford soap company - don't need conditioner, had lots of remarks on how Good my hair is looking and it feels much smoother since I started using it 6 months ago. Also an independent business and no palm oil: the-oxford-soap-company.myshopify.com/

TroysMammy · 08/08/2020 20:30

I use Cole & Co.

Aragog · 08/08/2020 20:31

Scrappy - I don't use a vinegar rinse as could t get on with one, hence using a conditioner bar instead.

Goodebe · 08/08/2020 20:33

I was amazed actually at how good gruum was... and they send me a £5 voucher which you’re welcome to - PM me.
