Alternative to foundation

Help please! I put some makeup on for the first time since March and my foundation just felt really heavy and looked quite "fake" even though it is the Bodyshop Nude one. I think I'm just not used to it anymore. What can I use instead to even out my skin tone and hide blemishes? Need to tone done slightly red nose, hide under eye circles, occasional spots. Would concealer and BB cream do it?

MAC face and body for me! It my usual go to for tanned summer holiday skin but I was the same after not wearing foundation for months during lockdown the first day I put my normal foundation on it felt so heavy and couldn't wait to get home and wash it off. Have reverted back to MAC F&B and dont think ill go back to regular foundation now!

anonacatchat · 24/07/2020 22:01

Tinted sunscreen from Heliocare and concealer

anonacatchat · 24/07/2020 22:02

Also the IT cosmetics cream is nasty . So thick. Don't rely on it for spf protection either as you'd never get the 1.25ml on your face to get the protection

Kay1341 · 24/07/2020 22:03

I use concelear and this tint glow:

I use bare minerals primer with powder foundation minimally applied. No claggy feeling at all and very natural looking but covers up uneven skin tone and any break outs really well

curlytops21 · 24/07/2020 22:05

@Zeldaaa

JorisBonson which shade do you buy in glossier? I’ve been tempted to buy cloud paint so might try the concealer as well
Zeldaa I sent a photo to glossier on insta by DM asking which shade and they got back to me within about 20 mins. They suggested g10 - I had been trying to work out just how pale and freckly I actually am and was thinking a bit lighter but what they say probably makes sense if you consider warm undertones etc.

I bought cloudpaint in beam and really like it. It only arrived two days ago and I like that it is buildable and long lasting, but I don't think it's exactly the right shade for me so planning to buy another.

AuntyFungal · 24/07/2020 22:12

I use either BareMinerals (mineral powder) or Laura Geller Balance & Brighten.

I’m not sure I could ever go back to a liquid.

TooMinty · 24/07/2020 23:18

Oh I am torn between G11 and G12 shades on Glossier. Do they do samples? I have pale skin, probably grey eyes, dark brown hair (nearly black) - model that looks most like me was G11 but with brown eyes so hard to tell. Think it's unusual to have hair as dark as mine without dark skin and brown eyes!

I don't think they do have samples but just email them a pic or send on insta messenger and they will get back to you. If you can't wait that long (totally understand this as I'm not v patient!), everything I've read online about this says that the colour doesn't really matter massively if you're uncertain or between shades as it doesn't offer massive coverage - it just seems to blend out across your skin anyway.

Hope you like it! Me too - I'm ordering right now too. Make sure you use a referral link to get your 10% off - not necessarily mine but just don't miss out 🙂. I hate missing a discount!

TooMinty · 25/07/2020 08:05

Yes think I will order the package with tint and concealer, thanks for heads up on discount code. What's Cloud Paint?

TooMinty it is the thing that drew me to Glossier in the first place. A lush gel-cream blusher which has been hyped for ages. I love this type of blusher and have been on the hunt for a good one for years, since the one I used to get from Origins was discontinued.

I got this last week after reading tons of reviews and am very happy with it so far. I got it in the popular shade 'beam' but I feel I need a slightly darker shade so I'm probably going to buy it in Dusk too. It is easy to apply, buildable and lasts all day, so I'm liking it so far.

There's lots of reviews online though so check out some YouTube videos to see it for yourself. 👍🏻

Ah, sounds good - might try it when my Benefit Cheek tint runs out (in about 5 years time as a little goes a long way 😂)

I hate wearing foundation. I’m blessed with lovely skin and I find foundation just ruins it. I recently tried the Nyx tinted skin veil and really like it. Comes in lots of shades too (also a very pale lady here!)

Haha tell me about it! I used to use that too but actually prefer a creamier texture as I feel it goes on top of a base better rather than almost washing the base away. Having said that, the staying power of benetint is a force to be reckoned with 💪

I think that's it exactly. My skin doesn't need 'covered up' - it just needs something very sheer to even it out in areas. The skin veil sounds ideal too - will investigate this!
Gurtcha · 25/07/2020 11:04

Yeah I’ve never understood why we should cover up our skin either @curlytops21. I use the skin veil and then some concealer if I’m looking particularly tired or have a blemish. I also use their illuminating powder sparingly which gives a nice glow.

Meripenopause · 25/07/2020 11:27

I love this stuff

It is colour adapting, but you need to be fairly light skinned.
Be warned it takes a good half hour to go from green to skin-coloured. It stays nice all day and doesn't end up in lines like a lot of foundations.

Cheesymonster · 25/07/2020 13:32

I use the same as Kay1341 but am tempted to try the Glossier one when my jar runs out. Also need to find a good concealer for my under eye area.

All the pale people on this thread!

If for any reason I don't like the Glossier one I have loads of great recommendations, thanks!

I'll pass this suggestion on to my friend, she has quite a lot of redness so looks perfect for her. I love the idea of starting out green then becoming human again!

I've just got a sample of the Erborian cc cream in the Next Beauty Box, tried it today and it is amazing. It's white in the tube but you massage it in and it changes colour. Made my skin look more even and healthier. Was very impressed.

curlytops21 · 27/07/2020 11:09

So I've now ordered the Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint and the stretch concealer, both in G10. Excited to try them and will feed back.

Ideally i want a little bit of sheer colour to even out my skin but not seeking real coverage. I will report back in due course!

Also got some free samples of two Cloud Paints so that's a nice bonus which will likely lead to another purchase 😂.

JorisBonson · 27/07/2020 11:31

@curlytops21 I'm excited for you!

The reddish cloud paint is next of my list, I got a sample of it and it's fab

Oooh... I think we may need a new Glossier favourites thread 😍

TooMinty · 27/07/2020 15:05

I ordered the skin tint/concealer package plus some Milky Jelly (?) cleanser. And chose Cloud Paint as my free sample (copy cat). I used your discount code, thanks 😊
