If you're in your 40s, what sort of jeans do you wear?

I dont wear jeans very often, and only for running around in, not going out. I usually wear skinny jeans but I'm aware they have been around forever. I need some new jeans and was wondering what style to go for. I'm size 10-12, apple shape, fairly big butt, decent legs

What are you all wearing? And will 'mom jeans' look horrendous if you're not 16 and skinny as hell?

I love relaxed skinny jeans from Next. They look nice rolled up with trainers / converse etc.

NikeDeLaSwoosh · 10/06/2020 11:19

Mom style high waisted ones.

They're not flattering, but your whole look will become instantly fresher.

It will also make older style tops look a lot more current.

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/06/2020 11:59

Mid rise skinny jeans.

'They're not flattering, but your whole look will become instantly fresher.'

That's what I was thinking. They're a bit trendier than skinnies, but I agree, not the most flattering!

High rise skinny jeans - with boots or hi-top trainers in winter & turned up about 4 inches with trainers or flat sandals in summer. I’ve tried looser jeans & they just make me look frumpy (& I’m never going back to low rise/boot cut anything!). The Mom Jean look is basically the same as what I was wearing in the early 80’s, but as I no longer have youth, beauty or a willowy figure on my side I’m 100% sticking with the hi-rise skinnies for as long as I can! I’ve got slimmer friends who look great in looser jeans, but as I’m tall and curvy I really can’t pull that look off (except in dungarees, but I fear they still look a bit tellytubby/Andy Pandy on me, mostly don’t care that much though!).

kitschplease · 10/06/2020 12:31

TopShop Jamie - high rise skinnies that are comfy too.

I want some mom jeans too, even if they remind me of DM's ones I wore in the 90s.

VanCleefArpels · 10/06/2020 12:33

M&S Harper cigarette shape, great high waist, slim but not skinny, great soft stretch denim

Duchessofealing · 10/06/2020 12:38

Either mid rise skinny or mid rise boot cut (Abercrombie after a tip on here) - they suit my shape and style - and only ever in a dark wash or black at a push. No way would I put on mom jeans - I’d look like a potato!

spiderlight · 10/06/2020 12:42

Next high-waisted slim leg - skinny jeans make me look like a parsnip.

NightmareOn · 10/06/2020 12:44

None. I think I have given up. Can't make anything other than skinnys work and skinnys are starting to look dated on me/after ten years I'm getting sick of them.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 10/06/2020 12:59

High rise, straight leg ones.

Skinnies don't work with my pear shape. High rise are comfy and stop muffin top.

I get mine from Sainsbury's!

Oly4 · 10/06/2020 13:05

Skinnies suit me and I like the fact in winter I can wear them easily with Chelsea boots. I wear Fat Face five point jeggings as they are so comfy.
I also like straight cut with stretch.
Mom jeans make me look huge

BoogleMcGroogle · 10/06/2020 13:08

Hi-rise skinny jeans here too. I have a figure similar to yours' and, after extensive attempts to find an alternative, I've concluded they are by far the most flattering and versitile option. I generally pick mine up in Sainsbury's or Next. I do have a pair of cropped wide legs from White Stuff which I rather love, but trendy they ain't 😆

FruChoc · 10/06/2020 15:19

Hi rise skinnes here too. I'm v big of chest and feel like frump central with anything looser. The skinnies balance out my figure/provide some definition.
I like the idea of girlfriend/mom fit jeans but I just look like I'm out of that mom Jean meme not fresh and fashionable....

Fidgety31 · 10/06/2020 15:56

I wear black skinnies from Levi’s I’m short leg
Wouldn’t wear any other fit as they look frumpy on me

Ellapaella · 10/06/2020 16:00

I wear jeans most days. Usually I wear relaxed fit boyfriend style Levi's or high waisted cropped Levi's, I have a lovely pair of relaxed fit Hush jeans that I've been wearing loads this summer. I wear skinny jeans occasionally but mostly in winter with boots.
I like Mom jeans on others but don't think they suit me at all.

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 10/06/2020 16:13

Boyfriend fit or skinnies here - 5 foot 3 and size 10/12

Powerplant · 10/06/2020 16:17

The M&S ones look good

PrincessHoneysuckle · 10/06/2020 16:17

Skinny and probably always will.I know they arent on trend but I love them.

nointernet · 10/06/2020 16:46

I know they arent on trend but I love them.

I found a pile of old bootcut ultra low rise jeans while having a reorganisation a couple of weeks ago. I've been wearing them ever since. So comfy.

TazSyd · 10/06/2020 16:49

High rise, skinny, above the ankle.

I’m 40 and I thought the mom jeans made me look frumpy.

NordSjoen · 10/06/2020 16:52

Boyfriend jeans - have them from Hush and the White Company. Wear rolled up with vans for work, with Birkenstocks or flip flops for home. In winter I wear high waist skinnies with DMs.

Friolero · 10/06/2020 16:55

I wear mid rise skinny jeans from Gap or Next if I’m wearing winter boots or sandals. If I’m wearing trainers I usually wear slim or straight fit jeans, again usually from Gap or Next.

Hedgehog44 · 10/06/2020 16:55

I have skinny ones, bootleg ones and slim leg ones depending on what I'm wearing on my feet.

AnyFucker · 10/06/2020 16:57

In my 50's and I wear skinny and boyfriend styles
