www.topshop.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=19551&storeId=12556&categoryId=67 931&parentcategoryrn=42344&productId=406941&langId=-1 - it is for a school reunion, we are going out to a nightclub but I want to wear something other than jeans + nice top. I am at the moment a size 16/18, but know topshop will be a small 16 so will lose weight, so will look abit different from my profile pic. I saw someone my size in strapless, and though it looked flattering but am not totally sure whether I'll look ok in it... please advise me style gurus!

OKies, good to know. I don't wear dresses so dunno if I can get away with any really... This is the pic from the last reunion, so you can see what I am up against www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=466951&o=all&op=1&view=all&subj=6773011030&aid=-1&id=509751252&oid=67 73011030

Yes I like Olive's dress too, much better

paolosgirl · 19/09/2007 21:49

How do you login to Facebook?

Quootiepie · 19/09/2007 21:49

I like that dress OO just feel dull in black... like I am trying to hard to look slim, if you see what I mean?

Bewilderbeast · 19/09/2007 21:49

I love the colour but unless you are 18 or under I don't think this is a good dress. You are right though those of us with generous proportions do fill strapless dresses out quite nicely, but only in wedding dresses and only if you have very toned arms.

NDPIsProbablyGoingToHell · 19/09/2007 21:50

not a facebook member so can't see your opposition.

I like the shape of olive's frock but the colour a bit dour

ohsotired · 19/09/2007 21:50

PaolosG You need to register with FB

Quootiepie · 19/09/2007 21:50

Chavvy?

oliveoil · 19/09/2007 21:51

if you are going to a reunion, you need to feel comfortable

and if you don't normally wear dresses, will you feel comfortable?

wide leg trousers are in, maybe some of those in black, with heels to lengthen legs, plus bright top

do not ask me to link anything, am bog eyed

opposition? Roffle ! I am 21, so I don't really wanna look like a size 18 frumpy mum (which I am! )

oliveoil · 19/09/2007 21:53

this will either be fab or hideous

I thought black trousers, then I though it seemed just so safe. I won't buy anything until I have slimmed down more though, I know not to buy things to slim into! lol

binkleandflip · 19/09/2007 21:54

If you are comfy with your shape then I think you should wear the dress you like - also think the colour would really compliment your colouring.

I wore a strapless dress for a recent ball - am a 16 - felt like a million dollars - had lots of compliments (even if I looked like a dogs dinner lol) - better to wear something you feel comfy in than something you trying to smother your shape and feeling like you're trying to hard to disguise your figure IYSWIM - that way your confidence and relaxed attitude shines over and above what you're wearing.

Of course, you'll know as soon as you try it on how its going to make you feel.

Have a fab reunion !!

morningpaper · 19/09/2007 21:54

what about black trousers with KILLER heels?

Someone (MrsBadger?) said something about tie waists and sacks of potatoes... I always thought they were slimming, but I am pretty clueless! If I do buy from topshop, I have to get to a proper size 16 anyway.

lou33 · 19/09/2007 21:54

can i just say to the girl on the right in the teeny shorts, and the girl on the left in the teeny dress....

no love, put it away, there's a dear

oliveoil · 19/09/2007 21:55

get these in extra long and wear with heels

MyTwoDoubloonsWorth · 19/09/2007 21:55

I like this shape but not the print.

I think it would sweep over bulges, highlight a nice bust and disguise the arms.

It's just a horrible print, that's all!

Quootiepie · 19/09/2007 21:55

Killer as in high? I am not used to heels very much anymore, probably could wear a comfy mid heel... I see alot of patent and peep toes about...

oliveoil · 19/09/2007 21:56

ahem Morningpaper, I have already suggested that

paolosgirl · 19/09/2007 21:57

That blue top with a pair of black trousers, killer heels and cool jewellry would look not-chav, and pretty darn good

Jackstini · 19/09/2007 21:57

I think you are young enough to get away with the colour but think the style might make you a bit lumpy bumpy.
Agree with MP something halter neck would be good - something to hold up boobs and also skim over tummy/hips...
