Scented Candles

terrigrey · 02/05/2020 10:26

I know it's not strictly S&B, but I figured this would be a good place to ask.

I'm after some lovely scented (but fairly strong as can't smell very well) candles.
Not too expensive but natural would be great and re-useable/refillable if possible.
I usually take a gamble in TKMAX but that's not possible at the moment.

Anyone got any ideas?

I bought this candle recently from Etsy and I adore the smell:

Oldraver · 03/05/2020 17:11

A friend had just bought me some BeeFayre Mummy Bee lace day and geranium

It's gorgeous

Patsypie · 05/05/2020 14:21

Has anyone tried Chase and Wonder? The reviews are amazing but I can't cope with wasting more money!

askingneverhurt · 06/08/2020 16:49

Noem have nice candles. I bought the best smelling candles recently. Smell strong even before you burn them. Got them from
f-ingcandle.co.uk
Jo malone is also nice.

Amyheadache · 06/08/2020 22:53

I always get candles from homesense. I love the pecksniff ones I think you can buy direct but they’re pricey!

slipperyeel · 07/08/2020 09:16

I like st eval too

The Cornish candle company also good and, if you’re a member, the beauty pie candles are great quality

Fedup21 · 07/08/2020 09:21

@dementedma

I always recommend Isle of Skye candles. Always first thing on the Christmas and birthday wish lists for dds, sis and me
I’ve just looked at their website-they look lovely and make me think of Outlander!

Which ones are nice?

Nombrechange989 · 07/08/2020 09:26

I took a gamble on Mother's Day and sent her one of the collections from The Bearded Candlemakers.
Apparently they were gorgeous.

PenCreed · 07/08/2020 12:00

Seconding Isle of Skye candles and also Essence of Harris. I've had Christmas ones from both and they're lovely, I can't comment on their other scents though!

Hopeitsallok · 08/08/2020 21:55

Aldi candles are terrific, give off a beautiful aroma and they only cost something like £3.50 😊

Plainandsimple · 08/08/2020 23:10

Get yourself a subscription to Lovely Box! It’s a monthly, curated collection which has a different theme each month - so far I’ve had three, ‘botanical’ (garden/herbal), ‘staycation’ (beach/coconut), and ‘exotic’ (orientals) - each lovely! Boxes usually contain two candles and wax melts, brands are small UK manufacturers that only use natural products. The fragrances are amazing and it’s such a lovely treat, I end up stalking my poor postman every month when the box is due! Www.lovelybox.co.uk.

I use to buy Yankee candles, but stopped now as they throw a lot of soot out, all my window frames looked dirty and forever washing them ,
Can't be good for breathing in either

Hyperfish101 · 09/08/2020 00:52

Cheap candles use paraffin wax and that causes soot and can be a respiratory irritant. Bees wax or soy candles are a better alternative. More expensive but much better for you. Ones that contain essential oils are better than synthetic perfumes too.

Aroma works or Neom are good.

Rhiflexx · 09/08/2020 09:57

If you want great candles that aren't too pricey and are natural go to cedarlifestyle.co.uk/ they smell absolutely incredible and you're helping out small businesses in their time of need! Better than neom and not as pricey!!

BYGIDAFY · 09/08/2020 10:30

Desperate for some scented candles that actually give off a scent!

Have tried:

  • Aery from John Lewis - the worst yet! Really expensive and yet they don’t give off any scent at all (and we tried three different ones, more fool us!)
  • Muji - ditto but at least they weren’t expensive
  • White Company - expensive and gave off a scent if you were standing within 1m.

Will try Aldi! Nothing could be worse than the above!

lotusbell · 09/08/2020 14:45

I didn't rate Isle of Skye - bought 2 scents, both classed as travel tins but decent sizes. Poor throw from both, would be ok in.a tiny box room. No way if reviewing them on their website and didn't respond to review on.their Facebook page so won't be bothering again.
I like White Company and Cire Trudon but obviously very pricey.
American brand Bath and Body Works are very good, decently priced and good throw, wide variety of scents especially at Christmas, bit too eager on the Pumpkin based scents for me but I avoid those. Entry of groups on Facebook with people who import them and sell on via the groups.

lotusbell · 09/08/2020 14:45

Plenty of groups, that was!

BigT71 · 09/08/2020 18:38

Cosy Aromas (Facebook) do excellent ones x

Juanmorebeer · 09/08/2020 18:42

I really rate a fragrance from Sainsburys it is Peony and linden but I haven't tried the other smells.

From TK maxx pecksniffs or parks are really good

Shosha1 · 09/08/2020 19:21

www.secretgarden.uk.com love their scents and totally natural

dhfoody47 · 09/08/2020 19:34

Try www.myddfai.com.. Lush smells& they are a social enterprise so win win Smile

Damsel · 09/08/2020 20:36

La Bougie candles are amazing - labougie.com

Or Max Benjamin
Maxbenjamin.ie

Both much nicer than Jo Malone & much less expensive.

Daftapath · 09/08/2020 21:13

Try Made At Milldown. They sell online - candles, wax melts, diffusers ... ^
^
www.madeatmilldown.com

You would also be supporting a lovely Mumsnetter who lost her husband recently. The products are all homemade in the garden shed and are wonderful! I currently have a lime, basil and mandarin diffuser that is scenting my sitting room.

howsitgonnacomeout · 09/08/2020 22:12

Pearl and thomas use 10% fragrance in their soy candles. Smelt amazing, but only about 3 scents at the moment. No idea how much they cost though as was a gift.

seensome · 09/08/2020 22:38

Woodwick candles are nicely scented, Yankee candle price range but I prefer the woodwick brand.
