High-quality opaque white t-shirts - anyone in possession of the 'perfect' one?

Hi all - has anyone found the holy grail of white t-shirts? I'm looking for a high-quality, thick material, and not see-through t-shirt but it's so hard to tell which ones are good when online shopping.

Very grateful for any leads! I have a great one from French Connection but it's starting to look a little bit worn, so in the market for a new one. Ideally not cropped or super tight - just a regular fit that's nice to wear under leather jackets etc.

Thanks!

I got a nice one from Saint & Sofia that you might like - the easy tee.

Fruit of the loom

Petit Bateau. Or H & M if you don’t mind a ribbed finish...they definitely tick the thick material box and are not expensive.

I have a couple from Massimo Ditto. I like the slightly higher than usual neck and the narrow seam.

Nevth · 26/04/2020 11:47

Thanks all! Some really useful tips here. @bobbletrouble that t-shirt looks great - how have you found the fit?

@clippityclop Ah, I'd forgotten about Massimo Dutti. I really like the idea of a slightly higher neck. Is this the one you have? www.massimodutti.com/gb/women/collection/t-shirts/short-sleeved-t-shirts/plain-cotton-t-shirt-c911196p8817854.html?colorId=800&categoryId=911196

Sunspel are great for basics like this www.sunspel.com/uk/womens-cotton-t-shirt-in-white-wtsh0032.html

BlahBlahLand · 26/04/2020 12:08

Gap Modern are my go to.

BalloonSlayer · 26/04/2020 12:31

Sixty quid for a white t-shirt!!!!!

Ponks · 26/04/2020 12:39

Uniqlo U plain white T-shirt about £10 , great quality

ChippyDucks150 · 26/04/2020 12:42

I have an Emma Willis one from Next that I bought last year that is perfect. Also has a slightly higher neckline.

fatbottomedgirl100 · 26/04/2020 12:56

These are excellent quality and ethically produced

I like the Gap modern t-shirts - thick enough not to be see-through, good stretch and, crucially (for me, anyway), nice and long. I just wish the neckline on the crew-neck was a bit lower but, for the price, it's the best I've found.

TheCanterburyWhales · 26/04/2020 13:08

M&S are my go-to. I buy about 5 every year. They change the recipe Grin which is annoying though- anyway last summer they were the £12.99 ones. There's viscose in them which means they don't look like men's vests which some pure cotton ones do. I bought some Uniqlo ones a couple of years ago and felt like my grandad mowing the lawn in them.

TheCazaletCousins · 26/04/2020 13:11

I like Whistles Rosa t shirts and recently bought one from Seasalt called, I think, reflections which is good too.

Sooverthemill · 26/04/2020 13:28

I have these from Arket. They are perfect

Sooverthemill · 26/04/2020 13:31

@fatbottomedgirl100 what's the sizing like? I'm a uk10 and their small fits 8-10. Will it be tight or relaxed?

BikeRunSki · 26/04/2020 13:33

BAM infini-T. My original ones are still going strong 3 years later. They also do standard length T shirts and bamboo jersey tops, but I have not tried these.

fatbottomedgirl100 · 26/04/2020 14:25

They come up snug so I’d go a size up unless you want it for layering

Swiftier · 26/04/2020 14:54

@BalloonSlayer yes £60 but that is for a high quality t-shirt that will last for ages. It’s also made in the UK, by people working in safe conditions and being paid fairly.

You can obviously buy t-shirts in Primark for £1 but the OP was looking for a good quality one...

Nevth · 26/04/2020 15:24

@Swiftier I absolutely love the look of the Sunspel one. Unfortunately they are out of size M, but I have ordered one size up as I like them slightly oversized! Also great to know that they're responsibly produced. Have you found them see-through at all?

I get it's a lot of money - I'm fortunate that I have space in my budget, and my style is very focused on basics with nice accessories, so at the end of the day the price per wear becomes very low. The t-shirt I'm wearing today I bought in 2012 and it still looks like new! Smile

This might be my favourite thread ever, I was starting to think such a thing didn’t exist!
Anyone found one with a scoop neck?

MrsA2017 · 26/04/2020 15:46

Anyone tried tees from Cos?

BalloonSlayer · 26/04/2020 16:00

Oh I appreciate it's good quality, and good to hear there are clothes still being made on the uk, but one black sock left in the washing machine and it's knackered and 60 quid down the bog.

BestestBrownies · 26/04/2020 16:05

Another vote for Uniqlo here.

Their t-shirts are lovely quality and wash/wear brilliantly (keep shape and colour). Long enough in the body and a steal at around £10 each.

Rumboogie · 26/04/2020 16:34

The White T Shirt Company t shirts are the best imo and fit the description of your wants.

Not cheap, but mine have washed and washed and lasted without twisting, etc for years.
