Anyone else just not feelilng the desire to buy?

I have a lot of clothes in my wardrobe and normally at this time of year I'd be buying my summer things but this year I have no desire to buy anything. I presume it is heightened anxiety due to Covid coupled with the fact that the only place I go out to is work because of lock down.

I keep getting adverts and emails telling me i should be buying clothes to look comfortable and elegant at home, but to be honest I'm quite happy in my old gym leggings and a T shirt, or last years summer dresses. Is this usual or am in the process of letting myself go?

Nope, I haven’t bought anything either, it seems too frivolous when there’s a global pandemic going on.
I’ve also got a wardrobe full of clothes from the past 2 or 3 years which still have plenty of wear left in them! So it would be an extravagance to buy more really.
So saving my money makes sense. I don’t know what my work situation will be like in 6 months, whether I will still have a job!
Plus so many shops are going bust, it kind of puts you off buying!

Celeriacacaca · 17/04/2020 00:01

Me neither, although there are some good sales that I've come across which are tempting.

PersonaNonGarter · 17/04/2020 00:05

I am a very committed shopper but..just not feeling it.

Still looking, still see stuff I like, still think there are gorgeous things out there that it would be nice to have. That just isn’t converting into buying. Not cos I have less cash but I am feeling weird and distracted and who’d see it anyway?

Also, I have all the stuff I work washed and ironed and on my rail and ... it’s a lot! I hadn’t realised how much I had because at least some of it is usually in the wash or in the ironing basket.

bombaychef · 17/04/2020 00:08

I think the vast majority are feeling either 'why bother' or 'doesn't seem important'. Hence companies going bust

Almahart · 17/04/2020 07:58

No desire to shop at all, just rotating the same jeans and t shirts here and have a growing pile of stuff to eBay once the restrictions start to lift

Davespecifico · 17/04/2020 08:02

I’ve bought nothing but food etc from the supermarket. Hope I’ll have a nice bit saved by the end of this.

Floisme · 17/04/2020 08:11

Well it's only been 3 weeks GrinSo far I have been saintly but ask me again in 6 months.

Tulipstulips · 17/04/2020 08:14

I actually bought some summer clothes right at the beginning of lockdown because I’ve lost a lot of weight since last summer, and everything I had was massive on me. I was very glad over the weekend when it was hot! And I had to get DS some summer clothes as he’d grown out of last year’s stuff.

supercee · 17/04/2020 08:17

I'm not buying anything as my lockdown eating and wine drinking got slightly out of control, then Easter eating threw another spanner into the mix Blush

I did a massive wardrobe clear out though so I now have many items that I forgot about/will get another outing once I've lost a stone.

Sarcelle · 17/04/2020 08:18

I haven't bought anything other than food, alcohol and kindle books. I don't want to buy anything that will remind me of this time when it it over. Nice shoes, yeah I got them during covid. Instant downer! It does not seem appropriate at the moment, being able to go out and about seems a way off yet.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 17/04/2020 08:30

I ordered a pair of silk pyjamas yesterday that I'm very, very excited about, but other than that, there doesn't seem much point. There was a bikini and cover up set I'd been really excited to buy as soon as I had the cash, but as I doubt our holiday will happen, I've not bothered.

On the plus side, because I lost a lot of weight last year - and have so managed to keep it off - I'm able to wear all my old dresses from 15-20 years ago (I'm a pack rat who never throws anything out) and some of them are beautiful. It also made me realise I save too much "for best", because most of them have hardly been worn. So I'm changing that and wearing them, even though I only leave the house to take the DC for a walk. If this situation has taught me anything, it's that you never know what's round the corner, so stop waiting for a "special occasion"!

Fishfingersandwichplease · 17/04/2020 08:42

I am either wearing my gym/exercise gear or PJ's....def don't need anything new!

Asuitablecat · 17/04/2020 08:47

I bought new gym leggings cos I found I was wearing nothing else!

Lucked · 17/04/2020 08:48

Nope nothing, and I have previously tried to curb my shopping with little success.

Justmuddlingalong · 17/04/2020 08:48

I've got an abundance of all kinds of footwear, an obscene amount. But, while they're all waiting to be worn I've had to order new slippers, they're the only shoes I'm wearing or need ATM.

Verite1 · 17/04/2020 08:52

I bought a couple of lovely dresses before lockdown happened. Still not even worn those out the house. Seems pointless to buy anything else. I actually have a summer wardrobe that I am v happy about it. Unfortunately no one going to see them. First world problems and all that though.

olivehater · 17/04/2020 08:55

I desperately need to buy some summer clothes as have been pregnant or breastfeeding the last few years and this is the first time I have been either. I was going to have a big shopping spree. I like to try on clothes. Can the people who are seeing sales point me in the right direction. Apart from ASOS and my fave oasis ( sigh guess that option is out) I don’t know where to look.

Astrabees · 17/04/2020 09:40

Am I the only one who has put weight on, except supercee? I am going to reform next week if I can but there is nothing to do, it seems, apart from eat and drink in my sleepy rural village. I am going into work but my colleagues are only doing one day in the office a week on a rolling rota, so I could wear the same dress every day and no one would notice!
I'm sure a lot of brands will go bust, and part of me would like to buy, but yes, it seems inappropriate. Anyway, my hands now look 50 years older than the rest of me, which is very depressing.

I've not bought anything since the beginning of February. Will have to buy more jeans and shirts at some point though, I wear a lot of tshirts that are fine under a jumper but not so great when you can see the state of them! I'm a shoeaholic but haven't bought any since November. This is unprecedented but seems pointless when I'm not wearing them while WFH.

I'm in an industry that is now very busy because of Covid-19 so I know my job is secure so it's not about saving money, it just doesn't seem much point when I can't wear my new clothes to work!

lindyloo57 · 17/04/2020 17:02

I too have lots of clothes, and have decided to try and not buy anything at all this summer, I did buy a mint velvet dress and a wool mix coat in john lewis sale in February that was the last items I have brought, I have ordered some beauty products from boots yesterday, got to have some treats to get me through this.

MulberryPeony · 17/04/2020 17:54

I had quite a few virtual baskets of clothes but not managed to buy anything yet. Tempted by lots of useful comfy clothing but in reality I do have a lot of clothes I could wear. I’ve had a virtual outdoors life pinning my picks on Pinterest instead Confused

PersonaNonGarter · 17/04/2020 18:35

I think the reality is most of us are spending a lot of time in close proximity to already bulging wardrobes. It is a very physical reminder that I do not need more clothes.

Well, I may need the size up, actually. I definitely have put on weight.

florriepeck · 17/04/2020 19:41

Well,it's only been 3 weeks
Is that all??

browzingss · 17/04/2020 20:05

I bought new gymwear and a few pairs of trainers, I know I’ll use it all after lockdown and I find having nice clothes to work out in motivating. Haven’t put on weight yet, but I’ve been heavily grazing on snacks all lockdown so it’s only a matter of timeBlush also ordered dumbbells from amazon and have been trying to exercise outdoors

Outside of that I’ve bought homeware such as office items, bedding, pillows, plants etc.

Beauty wise only hair products. I am tempted to buy some loungewear sets but also think it’s a waste of money as I have enough clothes and no ones going to see mr at home!

Stellamboscha · 17/04/2020 20:12

Same here -used to but lots of clothes but seems just weird now.
I'm surprised it had taken Warehouse and Oasis so long to go bust because they seem so very 90s.
