Not as icky as it sounds, but I could go a week. Just wondered if people leave it longer and could it make the condition better? I thought since I'm home, better try and improve my condition all over!

I shower every other day. If I leave it longer my scalp feels dirty and can end up itching like mad, which stops me sleeping. I've ended up having a shower at stupid o clock because of it.

Crystal87 · 11/04/2020 12:18

I have to wash mine every day. I have fine hair and by the morning it feels soaked in grease. At a push I can go 2 days and other people say it doesn't look greasy but it definitely feels it and I feel dirty.

RandomMess · 11/04/2020 12:19

I usually last 6 days.

I thought I would try leaving it whilst WFH just to see what happened so nearly 4 weeks now.

The grease is down to chest level 🤮 think I'm going to cave and wash it...

ouch321 · 11/04/2020 12:24

Anytime I shower I wash my hair so for me just a day, not because it gets greasy it's just I want to feel clean all over and if my head's dirty it feels not right.

Knowhowufeel2 · 11/04/2020 12:29

I used to wash my hair every day and if I didn't it was really greasy.
My hairdresser said this was because I was washing it too much and so washing out all the natural oils, etc, and it would be better for my hair to go down to washing it once a week.

He did say I would have to go through a greasy stage but, if I persevered, my hair would balance itself out, which it did.
I now wash it once a week but can go around 12 days before it starts to look greasy, if I've not used anything else in my hair.
I rarely use products on my hair though, but when I do, (usually heat protector & frizz serum ×1) then it does need washing after a week.

Knowhowufeel2 · 11/04/2020 12:30

I actually have fine hair, but because there's so much of it it looks really thick.

chickennugget2 · 11/04/2020 12:39

2 days max. My hair would be greasy and I would feel so dirty. I've no idea how people can not wash their hair for a full week 😮

happymummy12345 · 11/04/2020 12:45

I wash mine every 3 days. Don't need to wash it more regularly than that as it doesn't need doing.

Rockbird · 11/04/2020 12:46

Every second day when at home but every day if I'm out and about or at work. Looks terrible on day 2 but I can just about get away with it. Very fine hair dry at ends and greasy roots. Lovely. Hmm

Chickenwing · 11/04/2020 12:47

I used to wash my hair daily because leaving it for 1 day it would be so greasy. I now can go 2-3 days without washing it, but I had to persist for a while with days off in between washes (and looking disgusting) during the pandemic ive been washing my hair every 5-6 days. Today is day 5 and it is so very greasy but with very dry ends. I want to be one of those people who washes their hair once a week!

boringbertha · 11/04/2020 12:53

Usually every day in normal life but have been trying every other day since lockdown unless I have a work zoom meeting... can't bring myself to unleash my greasy locks on my work colleagues!

BillieEilish · 11/04/2020 12:55

@MissBax I remember seeing that thing about not washing it for 6 weeks and it gos back to its proper state, when I was a teenager!

I was horrified. But I think it might work (provided you don't live in London etc),somewhere as unpolluted as possible.

Certainly straightening, blowdrying, washing every day has got to be bad for hair.

LooQoo · 11/04/2020 12:58

I’ve got dry curly hair. When I’m going in to the office I wash it twice a week (it actually looks best the day after washing it). As I’m not going into the office at the moment, I’m just washing it once a week.

Lardlizard · 11/04/2020 13:02

A good week or so
Do you think it improves the condition not washing it for weeks ?

Eesha · 11/04/2020 13:05

I've left mine 5 weeks now. Doesn't itch, just in a bun. Obviously I wouldn't go out out but thought I'd try it as an experiment!!

I look greasy after about 18 hours.

Thankfully I have dry shampoo which I use on the second day.

So I only actually wash it every other day.

I have always been hugely massively envious of people with dry hair. Those people that can go to a festival and doss in a tent for a long weekend and not even think about their hair. Bliss!

SpeckledyHen · 11/04/2020 13:28

1 day . I couldn’t stand to be dirty .

ThanksForAllTheFish · 11/04/2020 13:31

4 days. My scalp gets itchy if I leave it any longer. I tend to wash my hair every 3/4 days. Day 4 hair needs to be put up as it is looking a bit greasy by then. Day 3 hair is more often than not still fine to leave down but has lost most of the volume so doesn’t look as good.

I think these things really depend on your hair type and lifestyle. Very fine hair probably needs washed every day or second day. Very curly / Afro hair can go a week or longer before it needs washed. Also things like people who work out a lot and sweat will need to wash hair more often. People who work outdoors or with animals probably need to wash hair more often due to animal smells/mud/hay etc. Pollution in cities can also make your hair dirt much quicker than if you live in a less populated area.

IHaveBrilloHair · 11/04/2020 13:38

4 weeks tomorrow and counting.
Dies it look good?
Fuck, no, but since Im shielding and live alone I thought it a good time to see what would happen.
I dont give it a thourough brush, then comb, then rinse every day though.

MoonAndMe19 · 11/04/2020 13:39

4 days but it usually goes in a bun on day 3.

firstimemamma · 11/04/2020 13:42

I usually wash it twice a week but at a push I could go once a week.

ememem84 · 11/04/2020 13:50

Usually around a week. But I’m tempted to wash my hair again the night before I go back to work proper - ie in the office. Whenever that may be. I’m on day 3 now.

Girlintheframe · 11/04/2020 13:50

Every 3/4 days for me.
My hair is incredibly frizzy and I use quite a lot of product to try and tame it so by day 4 it looks dull and lifeless unless I was out.

thisenglishlife · 11/04/2020 13:51

Six days. My hair hair nevers gets greasy, unless I eat something oily. I have dry skin and non sweaty armpits (two things which mean that greasy hair is less likely). I have straight, very long hair. I usually wash my hair three times a week.

I'm guessing most posters are European, each individual hair is fine and have straight or wavy hair? You certainly wouldn't need to wash coarse, very curly or ethnic hair daily!

FashionFoodLaughs · 11/04/2020 13:58

Once a week here unless there’s a special occasion and I want to blow dry it nicely and have been this way for about 2 years. Very, very thick hair that takes an hour to dry and style. My hair grows about an inch a month and I wonder if it’s because of washing it less or just luck.
