Rose perfume recommendations

I'm looking for a nice rose perfume for my mum's birthday. Obviously in normal life I'd go on a smelling spree but right now I can't.

She's specified that she wants a rose scented perfume that smells like 'old dusky roses', and I have no idea where to start.

Needs to be available online in the UK, and my budget is about £40, so alas Tom Ford out of the picture!

Paul Smith Rose is nice too

slinkysaluki · 29/03/2020 16:43

Also L'Occitane do a nice rose perfume Rose Et Reines think its called

Brilliant recommendations here, thank you. I'd read about Stella on Fragrantica but it's always useful to hear opinions, and it's within my budget, too.

I'll check out the Paul Smith one as well, I've always really liked the Paul Smith perfumes.

Thanks everyone!

Rock n rose by Valentino has been discontinued. It was my absolute favourite

carolannduffycheerup · 30/03/2020 10:05

Jo Malone- I love it- and I get comments all the time. Unfortunately my bottle is at work and I can't go and get it. Not that it matters now...

WhereAreWeNow · 30/03/2020 10:15

Serge Lutens Sa Majeste La Rose is the truest rose scent I've ever smelled. I love it but it's v £££
Paul Smith Rose is much cheaper and also nice.

YakkityYakYakYak · 30/03/2020 10:17

Paul Smith Rose is my go to daytime perfume too, I’ve been wearing it for years and get loads of compliments. It’s a relatively cheap perfume though so you’d get a huge bottle but it’s not as special a gift as something more fancy like Jo Malone.

Bluesheep8 · 30/03/2020 13:44

Stella has more longevity than Paul Smith imo.

Exoffice · 30/03/2020 13:46

another vote for Chloe Roses

IloveJudgeJudy · 30/03/2020 14:21

Just to add l'Occitane Rose. I haven't smelt that actual fragrance but I have had their previous rose scents which are delicious. They also do all the matching shower gel etc

Barracker · 30/03/2020 18:14

Rose Fraiche by Yves Rocher is photorealistic rose after a rainshower.

Kenzo Flower in the Air too.

Both lighter, fresher, dewy roses rather than heavier rose ouds, if you want that.

flouncymcflouncerson · 30/03/2020 18:55

I love molton brown rose absolute and prefer it to the jo Malone red roses but they’re both lovely

KellyMarieTunstall2 · 30/03/2020 20:35

L'occitane
Yardley
Jo Malone
Givenchy Rosey Crush

MaryLennoxsScowl · 30/03/2020 20:39

If you really really love your mum, Frederic Malle’s Portrait of a Lady is amazing - but very expensive.

ILLBESUZIE · 30/03/2020 20:44

Definitely YSL Paria

slinkysaluki · 31/03/2020 13:15

Ghost the fragrance in frosted blue bottle is nice too

BubblesBuddy · 31/03/2020 17:40

Miller Harris Rose Silence is a great one. It’s the old fashions rose fragrance your mum refers to. See if it’s a decent price on allbeauty.

lentenwonder · 31/03/2020 17:45

Jo Loves Rose Petal ok space nk lovely. Loccitaine reine et Rose fan here too

LadyMuckish · 31/03/2020 17:51

Second, third and fourth the YSL Paris, bought it for my childminder, loved it so much I had to get one for myself. Beautiful and lasts all day. Also have the DKNY Pure, nice but a slight chemical small, the YSL defo smells more expensive.

Haffiana · 31/03/2020 19:20

If she wants pure rose, rather than rose with citrus or rose with violet, then either Annick Goutal Rose Absolue (£££) or the Perfumers Workshop Tea Rose (cheap).

Just seen Penhaligons have a sale on, they have Tudor Rose included for £36

Lardlizard · 01/04/2020 00:09

Agree chloe roses or the body shop one is suprosongly really nice and cheap too

MikeDryden · 01/04/2020 07:59

I wear Jo Malone Red Rose, it’s so beautiful. For Mother’s Day, because the children couldn’t go shopping, they bought me a bottle of Aldi Scarlett Rose perfume. It is very, very similar to JM. I’m going to take it to use in work.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 01/04/2020 08:05

I've been using the Scarlet Rose from Aldi and I love it,it's gorgeous and lasts all day.

AgentCooper · 01/04/2020 08:07

Another vote for Stella. It’s gorgeous. I left a half used bottle in a toilet in Berlin once Sad
