If you don't have a dressing table, where do you get ready?

Having to have a little rearrange in the house as baby number 1 is on the way and we will be using the current dressing room as nursery. I haven't really got the space for my dressing table to go so I'm wondering where you all get ready if you don't have a dressing table?

The people with only the flannels and deodorant and pony tail hairbands failed to say where they keep them, missing the whole point of the thread

Hair band is in my hair - pull it out, brush through with fingers, 're do hair. Flannel and deodorant live on the bathroom windowsill.

Ellapaella · 29/02/2020 08:44

I do my hair (blow dry and straighten) next to a full length mirror in my bedroom - I stand up to do this. I do my make up downstairs in the hallway - we have a big mirror near the front door.

Ellapaella · 29/02/2020 08:45

I do my make up downstairs as it means I can keep an eye on DC and nag at them to get dressed etc. I do my hair before I come downstairs in the morning.

I leave my hair to dry naturally. I have all my skincare and makeup in my en suite ( a drawer for palettes, a drawer for lipsticks etc). I put my makeup on there. I have a mirror above the sink and an extra one on the window sill so I can check in natural light. The advantage of putting it on in the bathroom is that I'm by the sink so can easily dampen my beauty blender, wash it straight after every use and I can wash a makeup brush quickly when it needs it so they are always nice and clean.

My "getting ready" involves putting my clothes on and shaking my hair.

I don't need a dressing table for that.

Aragog · 29/02/2020 09:26

Hair - stood in front of full length mirror which is on the inside of our wardrobe door. So next to bed facing it when it's open.

Make up - stood in front of bathroom mirror.

We live in a very small flat right now but we do own a house that’s got a huge master bedroom so when we live there I plan to have a proper dressing table and ample storage for my make up and equipment to be all in one place.

At the moment I store my daily make up selection in a small pouch that fits into my handbag, that just sits on top of the chest of drawers in our bedroom so it’s handy when I need it; extra lipsticks, lip liners, mascaras, single eyeshadows, etc in a big pouch; unused make up items, palettes, blushers, brushes and sponges, foundation, concealer, highlighters and powders in a big case. My Bobbi Brown make up items are stored in a specific Bobbi Brown make up case.

Everything is stored in an IKEA Kallax unit in our spare room. My hair dryer, hair straighteners, Lumea and other grooming equipment is kept in a cabinet in our bedroom. I only use them once in a while.

Aragog · 29/02/2020 09:28

Mind you I am very low maintenance when it comes to hair and make up, always have been. It's fairly minimal and takes little time.

Probably wasn’t a post aimed at you then Smile

I have a small console-style table in my bedroom, with a stool in front of it and a mirror on the wall behind it. Make-up in one box on top, jewellery in another, perfumes next to them. There's a socket behind it, so my hairdryer is plugged in there and tucks into the space between the table and the wall next to it when I'm not using it.

Keeps everything contained and to hand, but takes up very little space.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 29/02/2020 13:17

Perched on the bed with a handheld mirror to do my face.

Hair dries by itself!

Errr... as the OP hasn't specified what she actually means by "getting ready", it might be. Smile

Deathraystare · 29/02/2020 15:18

I don't have much storage space so grab things out of bags. I sit on my bed as my 'desk' area is full of crap. I am unsure whether to use it as a table to occasionally eat off or a sort of 'beauty bar' which I had planned to until I realised how much beauty stuff I have!

tbf I have chucked a lot of stuff away and will hopefully clear it this weekend.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 29/02/2020 15:25

I do my makeup in the bathroom and my hair in the bedroom. I don’t have a dressing table but I have a mirror on the wall and a shelf with hair “stuff”.

dudsville · 29/02/2020 16:00

I think those dressing tables with their drawers and all are very pretty, but i can't see at that distance so i don't have one. Iv use the bathroom mirror which i can get right up next to!

Purpleartichoke · 29/02/2020 16:03

Standing in the bathroom.

WeCameToDance · 29/02/2020 19:10

This thread is bringing me out in a cold sweat.
I love my dressing table and I don’t know how I would get ready without it. It is a thing of beauty. It’s huge, wooden and houses all my favourite things. Make up is stored in muji storage boxes and in wire baskets on the top where I can see it. Perfumes on the elevated shelf bit with my make up brushes and then I have draws for my nail varnishes and odd bits.
Like a previous poster sometimes I just go up and take everything out and look at it all Blush.

drina27 · 29/02/2020 19:12

Drawers?

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 29/02/2020 19:13

I have one of those light-up mirror doowhackies on my bedside table.

fishonabicycle · 29/02/2020 19:14

Bathroom.

April1990 · 02/03/2020 17:53

Thanks everyone for the replies! By 'get ready' I meant skincare/ makeup etc, whether that's for on a daily basis or special occasions 😃

I have a mirror on top of the chest of drawers and make up in the top drawer. That might not help you!

deplorabelle · 02/03/2020 19:28

I put my makeup on on the bus (might stop that now because of covid19) I use my phone camera to check it after applying blind. My hairbrush and hairdryer live on the bedroom windowsill. In fairness I do look a right sight most of the time. 😁

UrbanMage · 02/03/2020 20:18

We have an IKEA desk that doubles up as my dressing table (all drawers/cupboards shelves for my slap) and DH work station. I'm so blind that I need to pretty much sitting in top of my mirror (an IKEA wooden one with a stand) so I can do my face.

In fairness, I don't wear make up to work but at the weekends it's fabulous! I have over 30 lippies alone...
