Where to find lovely, casual day dresses

BoogleMcGroogle · 09/02/2020 22:14

I used to love wearing day dresses to head into Spring, but can't seem to find the same quality or style in places I used to look, and the styles feel dated ( White Suff and Joules being especially disappointing). Boden's okay bit quite pricey. And why does nothing have sleeves any more?

Where can I look for flattering, stylish casual dresses, preferably in natural fabrics, that I can wear with boots, pumps or trainers? I like a pattern, or a richer colour. Nothing too grey or sacky because what looks chicly gamine on a seventeen year old model looks like a grey sack when it encounters my mum tum abs cake-loving bottom.

Pretty kitty fashion have some beautiful dresses.

Try french connection - they do lot of classic styles that are smart enough for work but casual enough to wear around the day too. Quite often they have many colourways as well.

I haven't tried them yet, but been looking at dresses from Sugarhill Brighton. Tempted by this organic cotton tunic dress in particular. (I think they were recommended on here as being good quality - someone recommended them to me anyways!)

Thank you. I got a gorgeous cotton dress from French Connection this summer. I'll look their Spring collection. Will definitely look up the other recommendations too.

I don't know the answer but just wanted to agreed that White Stuff and Joules are very dated thus year. I always find something I like in the WS spring collection but this years is so boring and shapeless.

goose1964 · 09/02/2020 22:41

Patra, they specialise in natural fabrics.

cardy1969 · 09/02/2020 22:41

What about Zara?

Louloudia1 · 09/02/2020 22:42

Is Uniqlo too grey and sacky? It's so comfortable and great value for money!

HelloDulling · 09/02/2020 22:42

I like & Other Stories. And Kin, at JL, but is a bit sacky.

GrumpyHoonMain · 09/02/2020 22:43

Asos, Apricot and New Look are pretty good for day / casual dresses.

Zara are great for day dresses, as are New Look. I also saw that Next have done a version of the infamous Zara spot dress. River island is also worth a look

frillseeking · 09/02/2020 23:00

Any of these would work for every day with boots or trainers and you could dress up or down

How about this from Uniqlo in the red. Rayon is cellulose based so isn’t a synthetic fibre btw.

Oasis and Warehouse

Louche, stocked at Joy, have some good dresses. Most of them are polyester unfortunately but some, like this rather nice one, are viscose.

Finery London usually have nice quirky day dresses.

gelert5619 · 09/02/2020 23:25

Sea Salt has pretty dresses.

stitchwitch85 · 09/02/2020 23:27

I know you said natural fabrics, but have a look at Popsy. I am addicted to their dresses!

FNuts · 09/02/2020 23:29

Lindybop

BeaLola · 10/02/2020 02:16

I agree re white stuff and joules. I bought a nice work dress from H&M which received lots of compliments at work and I'm a size18ish frumpy 50 year old

Forgetcourgettes · 10/02/2020 04:09

@stitchwitch85 had a look at popsy and there are some lovely dresses!

How do you find they wash and wear?

They look a nice length on the models, do you find this to be the case? I hate ordering a dress to find it’s really a tunic! I’m 5’ 6”

Thanks
