Nice clothes for the very mature woman

My very elderly mother needs to restock her wardrobe. She wants a wool or wool blend skirt of the sort she used to buy in the Edinburgh Woollen Mill, but EWM now seems (perversely) not to stock anything woollen and I can’t think where else to look. Can anyone suggest anywhere promising?

What price point/ budget?

FromIbizaToTheNorfolkMaud · 28/12/2019 23:08

That’s a tricky one, as my mother is by nature thrifty! If I can find something suitable, I may be able to persuade her to pay accordingly.

Hobbs?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/12/2019 23:11

Pure Collection

And Hobbs seem to have a fair few.

Ooh, hadn’t thought of Hobbs (although Hobbs may be too fashion forward and she may quibble at their prices). Off to investigate ...

Thank you for all the suggestions so far

Winser London in scary colour but others may like it

SpeckledyHen · 28/12/2019 23:16

I was going to suggest Cordings but probably too pricey.

Hard to recommend without shape or size but you could browse here from the link onwards.

Are you anywhere near a town with a country clothing store? They often have wool / tweed midi length skirts - little known labels, not always cheap but well priced for wool.

House of Bruar
Jaegar still going online
I agree with Hobbs.

Floisme · 29/12/2019 00:28

And Uniqlo do wool blends - my mum wore them in her 90s.

Splodgetastic · 29/12/2019 09:17

I was going to suggest House of Bruar, although some of it is quite expensive (not all though) and you won’t be able to try the clothes on if not in Scotland. Some good stuff in Lands End too.

FromIbizaToTheNorfolkMaud · 29/12/2019 10:00

Thanks, too, for the latest suggestions. I’d never have thought to look at Uniqlo!

My 78yo mum gets stuff from Pure Collection, she loves the quality. Brora? Though on the expensive side.

Yes, I think Pure Collection could be the way to go ...

My elderly mother has exactly the same issue. She’s bought a few woollen skirts from Artigiano, mail order only I think

misscockerspaniel · 31/12/2019 18:07

John Lewis has Pure Collection in its sale

Toast

FromIbizaToTheNorfolkMaud · 31/12/2019 20:14

Thank you for the further suggestions. Aged Parent and I went through the Pure Collection skirts and, alas, there was nothing there that hit the sweet spot of right style at what she considered the right price. I suspect it'd be the same with Artigiano and Toast but I shall persevere. Onward and upward.

Celtic and co has women's kilts.

I second this one:

Catrescue1971 · 31/12/2019 20:39

Cotton Traders would be good. Not wool obviously but they do sell clothes that look woollen but are actually cotton. They are quite a good price too.

FromIbizaToTheNorfolkMaud · 31/12/2019 20:53

That's exactly the issue, Catrescue. She's very clear that she wants at least some wool content, but is reluctant to pay the price generally attached to that. She buys things from Cotton Traders but only for other people!
