What was your experience having your upper lip threaded?

Hello! I usually have my brows threaded every 3 weeks, I find a bit stingy but not ridiculously painful ( I now compare everything pain-wise to childbirth) I decide to get my upper lip done today, not sure why. I think I was having a crazy moment! I must admit, it bloody hurt! Not as bad as my brows I didn’t think, my sister said it was evil, and made them stop after the first go. I know everybody is different pain wise ( am usually a wimp who cries at a headache Xmas Blush) I was wondering what your experience was? Did it hurt? Would you do it again? Thanks Ali ;)

It does hurt, not childbirth obvs, but definitely painful. I have it done whenever I have brows done.

Ellapaella · 05/12/2019 20:21

Painful but bearable. I prefer to have my upper lip waxed, less painful. Also I've noticed that threading seems to make the hair grow back darker.

Strawberrycreamsundae · 05/12/2019 20:26

It's definitely eye-wateringly ouchy but I now epilate mine at home, quick and much cheaper!

Madamswearsalot · 05/12/2019 20:28

Ridiculously painful - I'm fairly robust but holy mackerel it was awful. I use cream. I've come to terms with the fact that when I'm old and have stopped caring I'll be the double of Tom Selleck.

Marmighty · 05/12/2019 20:36

It's worst the closer to your lip it is in my experience, I always have tears streaming down my face. But then for a minute or so of pain I don't have a ruddy great moustache so I put up with it.

Iwantacookie · 05/12/2019 20:39

Hurts like hell. Especially if I'm on my period. I've changed to waxing now. Still painful but slightly less so.

PrettyPurpleFeather · 06/12/2019 03:31

Horrific experience, I wax now and it's so much easier and less painful.

Toddlerteaplease · 06/12/2019 04:11

Absolute agony! Never again!

wasthatamistake · 06/12/2019 04:57

I will never have anything other than eyebrows threaded. It hurts like a mother fucker.

Brillopadtongue · 06/12/2019 05:03

I had my cheeks and side burns threaded. The pain is so intense there more than eyebrows and lips. Threading like epilation is evil.

HepburnKNotA · 06/12/2019 09:43

It hurts. A lot.

But thats not the worst thing about it.

It made my upper lip hair grow back so much thicker and darker that after only about 5 sessions over 5 months I ended up having to fork out for laser treatment to deal with the problem. It literally turned downy dark-ish hairs to thick, tough, jet-black hairs. I had a full-on moustache!

Would never do it again and would never recommend it to anyone, based on my experience. I went to an extremely reputable salon, too. I just don't think it was the right treatment for me.

HiGunny · 06/12/2019 09:48

I have my eyebrows threaded once a month no problem. I tried having my upper lip threaded twice and both times were absolute agony. I had tears streaming down my face. Never again. Now I just wax it myself at home.

LBOCS2 · 06/12/2019 09:51

Stings like buggery.

And also, leaves me with a beautiful moustache of tiny red spots instead of the hair. So not much of an improvement IMO!

I'm gearing up to having laser done.

Doobigetta · 06/12/2019 10:14

Unbearably painful. The springy things hurt much less, for some reason.

SheSnapsThenSheFarts · 07/12/2019 19:55

It hurts. I cry. Every single time but it's worth a minute of pain to not have a luxuriant moustache

bonzo77 · 07/12/2019 19:57

Unbearable. I wax mine as home instead.

Difficultcustomer · 07/12/2019 20:04

Tried eyebrow threading once, never again, hurt like hell to me.

I get waxing done, bikini line is very painful, but I can’t cope with my foot being waxed at all (had a few beauticians including it with full leg wax.)

agteacht · 07/12/2019 21:31

If you're fine with eyebrow threading you'll be fine with upper lip too i reckon. I have both done once a fortnight, dead cheap and effective.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 07/12/2019 21:34

I am another who has tears streaming down my face.

Why on earth do we do these things?

My hair is very very fair but I still hate it. Maybe I need to wax?
I am afraid. Can someone tell me what that is like? lip and chin?

ReallyLoveChickens · 07/12/2019 21:35

Eye watering

TackyTinsel · 07/12/2019 21:38

The worst. Much worse than eyebrows. And leaves me with a comedy ‘sunburn moustache’ for 20 minutes or so afterwards.

Still get it done every 6 weeks though as the effect is much better than waxing for me Grin.

BillywigSting · 07/12/2019 21:40

Stings like a bastard, makes it grow back much coarser and leaves you with a rather fetching crop of painful red spots.

1/10 would not recommend.

I shave mine with the corner of a razor when I notice it, or just pluck the dark hairs with eyebrow tweezers

trilbydoll · 07/12/2019 21:42

I think it depends on who does it. Most weeks I nip into our local town to have my eyebrows done, it stings a bit but no big deal. The other week I went to a different place while dc were at a club and I honestly thought she was doing it with a knife. She couldn't believe I had ever had it done before I was squirming so much and I was too polite to tell her she was a fucking butcher.

PiratePetespajamas · 07/12/2019 21:45

Worse than childbirth. Do it every 4-6 weeks and weep with agony. Way worse than eyebrows. And then usually come out in a rash.

wheresmyliveship · 07/12/2019 21:48

I do it myself and basically feel nothing...I’m now thinking I’m very weird having read this thread Hmm
