Botox hasn't worked

iheartfriday · 12/11/2019 17:07

Pretty much what the title says! It's day 5 today and I can't see any discernible difference. The doctor who did it says it will take 2 weeks but everything I have read says I should see something by now. Has anybody had it kick in after this? Thanks!

Did you take a "Before" picture or did the surgery where you had it done ?

escapade1234 · 15/11/2019 12:45

Did it hurt OP? How long does it take? I’m toying.... I know what you mean about crossing a line. I’m worried I’ll have to have it forever.

Can anyone advise? Can you have it once then not redo it?

thisisallnewtome8 · 15/11/2019 12:57

I have Botox. Don't panic. The dr may have put a small amount in to make sure you don't have drastic results. Wait two weeks and then go for your top up. My dr will re-do it until I'm happy. No extra charge.

ParisInTheSpringtime · 15/11/2019 12:59

Sometimes mine works after a few days, sometimes it takes the full two weeks. Chill! And if there’s no effect after two weeks you should be able to go back (I can get a “top-up” after two weeks where I go, if it hasn’t worked fully).

FadingStar · 15/11/2019 14:51

I've had it work within hours and other times it took around a week. I have stopped using it...it was solving the problem of horizontal wrinkles on my forehead yet a massive vertical crease would appear instead!Confused I'm pretty sure I'm alone in that as Botox seems ok on everyone else.

PennyNotSoWise · 15/11/2019 15:27

@dontgobaconmyheart

it feels a bit like someone mildly glued my jaw so it's slower to move, chewing and opening is more laboured also. I was told this is expected as the botox paralyses the muscles somewhat to reduce overuse.
I'm not overly interested in having it again, it bloody hurt

Shit, I was going to have this done because my masseter muscles bulge and make my face look really wide and Botox there apparently slims the face. The sensation you describe sounds really annoying, I don't think I'd be able to cope with it.

How bad was the pain, do you mind me asking? I'm also a huuuge wimp, so I'm beginning to think it's a bad idea Grin

iheartfriday · 15/11/2019 17:11

A grip has been got! I'm not a patient person at the best of times!
I have an appointment at the two week mark and can have a top up and yes I think she did go in light as I was keen for the results to be age appropriate (at the time - now I would be insisting she froze my face). The doctor was lovely and said that people often start to see results within 3-5 days but full results at 2 weeks. Which is why I thought there might be some small change by now...
It didn't hurt at all but the injections between my brow sounded a bit eww. But I'd totally do it again (assuming it eveeeeeeer works!!)

@FadingStar You’re not alone. I had 11s done so I couldn’t frown. Instead I used other muscles so now have a big vertical line down my forehead that wasn’t there and have also been scrunching my eyes up when trying to frown which has caused new wrinkles under eyebrows. These look far worse than original frown lines.....

I’ve had to admit defeat that botox doesn’t work for me. Maybe my face is too expressive! It’s worn off now and I look better!

Anyway, it does take 2 weeks for the full effect to kick in.

FadingStar · 15/11/2019 20:13

Delatron, yes the vertical crease was about three times as deep as the wrinkles I had and even now that I no longer use Botox it is still there to a smaller degree. Was never there before. I could see people staring at it and of course that made me paranoid they were also seeing that my forehead wasn't moving much.

Never, ever again....I now use great skincare products instead and much prefer the results they bring.

iheartfriday · 18/11/2019 07:50

Day 11! Come on......!!!!

OP posts:
Bluntness100 · 18/11/2019 07:59

You still can't see any difference after 11 days?

HorridHamble · 18/11/2019 08:06

My practitioner has me back for a review after 14 days, so any tweaks or top ups can be made. Give your doctor a call. They probably err on the side of caution to avoid the completely frozen look.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 18/11/2019 08:14

My botox clinic gove you a top up if not happy after 2 weeks,I've only needed it once.I usually see a difference after 5 days

dutchmaster · 18/11/2019 08:18

I have had one time not work at all -turned out they used a different brand. as soon as they switched back to their usual it worked fine again (results noticeable from day 4 onwards)

troppibambini · 18/11/2019 08:21

After 11 days nothing more is likely to happen when you go up for your check up she can put more in.
I always need a top up over one brow it always spocks and needs settling down!
It's just one of those things.

iheartfriday · 18/11/2019 08:22

I don't have the before photos but I can't see or feel any difference at all. I have a follow up on Thursday and I know I was being very impatient but I did think I would see something by now.....

OP posts:
Bluntness100 · 18/11/2019 12:14

You should definitely see something by now.

TwattingDog · 18/11/2019 14:20

Did the doctor do before photos?

MoltonSilver · 18/11/2019 14:51

I've had it 3 times. The first time it worked. The next two times nothing happened, despite top ups and a recommended dr administering it. It doesnt work on everyone.

iheartfriday · 18/11/2019 14:55

@TwattingDog yes the doctor did take some so I can compare. I think I might be able to feel some resistance when I frown but I'm not sure and I can still frown fully.

Thank you everybody for indulging this self absorbed thread. I spent so long deciding whether to have it, and haven't told anybody in real life

OP posts:
Cherrypie32 · 18/11/2019 17:37

Sure it happens to everyone. The first time in you’re petrified of the ‘frozen’ look and what people are going to say, so ask to go in light. After a couple of weeks nothing terrible’s happened and you’re desperate for more 😂 that’s me for sure. Then they describe all the other amazing things they could do. It’s a slippery slope!

iheartfriday · 18/11/2019 19:29

@Cherrypie32 I can imagine! I never considered Botox until I had a couple of moles removed from my face (purely for cosmetic reasons). I'm still hopeful I might see some change so I know I'm not immune to it!

OP posts:
PollyFeather · 18/11/2019 20:17

Now OP I think I'd be expecting to see something by now so this is something you need to take up with your practitioner when you see her. Has she scattered it very lightly to avoid the frozen look but basically not injected enough and been over cautious? Is it the brand? I'd be asking for the whole thing to be re done and not as light as previously

NightsOfCabiria · 18/11/2019 22:22

Did he/she open the bottle/vial and draw up the Botox in front of you or was it already laid out on a tray?

Did he/she do 4 - 6 injections in your forehead or loads?

Seems very odd.
