I’m a 5ft 3in hourglass and am clueless when it comes to dressing casually.

Would this cardigan work with these jeans?

Cardigan - www.johnlewis.com/mint-velvet-ribbed-biker-cardigan-dark-grey/p4761681?size=12

Jeans - www.johnlewis.com/levi's-721-high-rise-skinny-jeans/black/p4161200?size=w30-l30

Thanks in advance

Links please @CountFosco. (Especially anything va-va-voom)

What shoes/boots do you wear with them?

Midlifechic (who is a size12 hourglass) loves the bombshell dresses, see here.

managedmis · 08/11/2019 20:35

Has anyone bought a bombshell dress?

^

Yes, I've got the navy one if the middle of the pic you posted. Very flattering

oohnicevase · 08/11/2019 20:37

I'm hourglass , I jsit wear jeans and fitted jumpers , often skinny rib polo necks this time of year and they at the mo an aviator jacket over the top.. I don't wear cardi as they make me look much bigger .. I like biker trousers too with boots and also tight jumpers

Woodlandwitch · 08/11/2019 20:42

I have the same cardigan and am 5ft4 and hourglass and it suits me lovely

It’s hand wash only so which is bloody annoying as I want to wear it all the time

freddy45 · 08/11/2019 20:46

Ohhhhh I do love that but it's out of my price range sadly.

I find Boden good for wrap/v neck tops in general - only plain ones usually and only in the sale or with a good code. I also find a boatneck top oddly good if it's wide enough.

floffel · 08/11/2019 21:12

@oohnicevase - aviator jacket??? Ooooih! Tell us!

happytobemrsg · 08/11/2019 21:14

I’ve never heard of a bombshell dress!!!

Another thing I forgot to mention - jumpsuits are amazing. Get one which is pulled in at the waist (I usually replace the belt which comes with it with one of my own). They are comfy & easy to dress up or down

oohnicevase · 08/11/2019 21:17

This sort of thing .. always make sure my jumper / top is fitted for maximum figure flattering .

randominternetperson · 08/11/2019 21:35

Oh, may I join this please? I'm a 5' 4" hour glass, size 10 and struggle with looking like a sack of spuds in everything. I live in vest tops and jeans and seriously need an update!

randominternetperson · 08/11/2019 21:35

LOVE the biker boots!

floffel · 08/11/2019 21:45

@Woodlandwitch - do you mean the mint velvet biker one? That’s another hourglass saying it works for them - am definitely going to try it on —I love this thread but it’s bad for my budget—

So true @CountFosco
I’m constantly trapped between looking like a matron or a barmaid

floffel · 08/11/2019 21:46

Welcome @randominternetperson - of course. I started it because I’m clueless and am thrilled to find other hourglasses who’ve been kindly sharing what works for them

OP posts:
floffel · 08/11/2019 21:48

Lol at matron and barmaid - that’s me to a t

OP posts:
Woodlandwitch · 08/11/2019 21:49

@floffel - yes the mint velvet one
I love it and get so many compliments wearing it

changeofname0987 · 08/11/2019 21:58

I LOVE Bombshell dresses! They've got these lush velvet ones at the moment. I got a pleated one in navy blue but want a red one with the shirring in the shoulders. They feel like heaven on...

Meathmum · 08/11/2019 22:10

Hello. Another petite hourglass here. The Zara maxi dresses work well as a comfy casual with trainers & then sock boot for going out i find. Like everyone i long for loose oversized knits etc but i look like a beachball unless i highlight the waist

floffel · 08/11/2019 22:12

After reading the comments here about bombshell and reading the blog that @CountFosco linked to - I have added a bombshell to my basket ............... I want it to wow at Christmas do’s

A short waisted hourglass here. I'm 5ft 6 and size 8 to 10/12 depending on fit.
I am relieved at the advice on chunky boots, I have found this is my preference but could never communicate why. I look ridiculous in ballet flats and pointed flats, I prefer boots, chunky trainers, platforms, and DMs. Also like high waisted, short cardigans, belted coats, etc. I have a faux fur lined leather biker with huge collar that looks fabulous.
I've bought a pair of hiking style boots lately from Whistles, the green ones with red laces and have been surprised by how they've pulled my look together and made my clothes look better.
I also think lighter coloured hats and scarves help a lot in the winter. For some reason I can not wear a black hat, where as a lighter colour works well on me. Odd I know, it's just something I've noticed and nothing to do with my colouring, its the overall balance.

floffel · 08/11/2019 22:14

And after @oohnicevase revelation of the aviator jacket - I have an aviator jacket in another basket >.......................
