What coats are your older teen girls wearing?

Dd is 18 and needs a new coat. She is currently wearing a black padded coat that she's had for ages and has seen better days.

She's not sure what sort of style to go for and I don't know what's popular with this age group.

She's about 5'1" and size 10.

Any suggestions please? Not sure of budget, maybe up to £100.

That's lovely @RubbingHimSourly

Thanks for all the suggestions. I went out with dd yesterday and she chose this from New Look:

www.newlook.com/uk/womens/clothing/coats-jackets/black-patch-pocket-teddy-coat/p/627649001?comp=PDP-Color-Swatch

The only downside is it doesn't have a hood (she likes a hood) but it looked lovely on her and such a good price. I treated her and she's going to look out for a second one with a hood.

Anything that price will be a false economy and sort of thing kids in state schools wear.

I beg your pardon? Dear God.

Justgivemesomepeace · 10/11/2019 13:59

My state school dd(17) has a cream fluffy coat from Primark, a grey furry one from New Look, a black hooded padded one from H&M, probably under £100 for the lot.

mimiasovitch · 10/11/2019 14:00

Both of my girls (16 and 18) have coats from Urban Outfitters - ski jackets by iets frans. Dd1 didn't take hers with her to uni at first, and dd2 got quite attached to it, so we found an unworn one for half the price on Depop.

Justgivemesomepeace · 10/11/2019 14:00

OP if shes going back for another, my dds grey furry coat is also from New Look, very similar to that one but does have a hood.

ambereeree · 10/11/2019 14:02

You must be quite a trendy mum to have your ask for ideas!

mimiasovitch · 10/11/2019 14:02

Ah - I missed shes picked one already. Love a fluffy coat Smile

Oppopotomouse · 10/11/2019 14:03

I'm still totally stunned by the state school comment.

My husband and I are privately educated, our children aren't. They are doing incredibly well. My brother sent his children privately all as thick as mince their style is what I'd generally describe as 'fur coat no knickers'.

Oppopotomouse · 10/11/2019 14:11

Sorry MNHQ I know this is against MNET etiquette, but if anyone wants a laugh the 'state school' comment posters has also posted other howlers. Well worth a read.😁😁

Ooh nice @twosoups1972

Oppopotomouse · 10/11/2019 14:46

Sorry to derail your thread OP. Is Rosie Benedorm Benenden Katie Hopkins? Does anyone know?

Sgtmajormummy · 10/11/2019 15:29

Mine has been fishing for a Woolrich style parka (brown buttons, hand warmer pockets, fur trimmed hood). I’ve seen lots on older girls. She’s getting one this winter but I’m making sure it will do for plenty of years to come...

Sgtmajormummy · 10/11/2019 15:35

This style.

I went to a state school so best that I don't express an opinion...

Newgirls · 10/11/2019 15:47

My teen bought a vintage wool one - wears it with dms etc about 40 quid but lovely

beckyvardy · 10/11/2019 15:52

State schools round here, it's all Froccella this time of year. £400-£600.

applesandacorns · 10/11/2019 20:43

If she's looking for a warm, waterproof one, I also vote the padded Uniqlo jackets like one of the PPs suggested! They're filled with goose down I think and so cosy.

whiteroseredrose · 10/11/2019 20:45

DD has a parka with a removable fleece lining and fur trim.

Trewser · 10/11/2019 20:48

Dd17 has a leather blazer type jacket, a suede and fake fur trim coat, both from vintage sales. A North Face puffa for sport.

Trewser · 10/11/2019 20:50

Apparently the teddy coats are 'basic'. But that's not necessarily a bad thing

Ellapaella · 10/11/2019 22:04

God I absolutely hate the term 'basic'.

Trewser · 10/11/2019 22:49

Why? It's a descriptor. Not always a negative one.

Idolovetobebesidethesea · 10/11/2019 22:55

DD has a coat from Urban Outfitters (reduced from £72 to £20) without a hood and a rainproof hooded one from North Face which was about £55. She also has a ski jacket because - despite, or probably because of, the fact that my children are state educated - we go skiing every year.
