What coats are your older teen girls wearing?

twosoups1972 · 07/11/2019 09:18

Dd is 18 and needs a new coat. She is currently wearing a black padded coat that she's had for ages and has seen better days.

She's not sure what sort of style to go for and I don't know what's popular with this age group.

She's about 5'1" and size 10.

Any suggestions please? Not sure of budget, maybe up to £100.

Thank you all with the exception of @RosieBenenden what a strange reply Grin

She IS at a state school! So it seems a puffer jacket/coat is the way to go. Which is very similar to what she's got already but that's ok if she's happy.

So no to a wool more tailored coat? Or teddy bear coat?

Not as a school coat.

Loopytiles · 07/11/2019 13:53

What’s a teddy bear coat, a duffle?

If so those were never trendy!

I remember the bombers with furry collars, 90s?

InsertFunnyUsername · 07/11/2019 13:59

Anything that price will be a false economy and sort of thing kids in state schools I'm Blush for you, Baby A 😂.

The teens round me love a teddy coat but like a PP said not for school. By me it's a sea of River Island, Top shop and JD coats.

gingersausage · 07/11/2019 14:04

She’s 18. Isn’t she shopping for her own clothes? I can’t imagine having any input into my adult daughter’s winter coat.

Puppymum2018 · 07/11/2019 14:05

My daughter has this one & we got it with a discount - she has pretty much lived in- so I’m guessing it’s warm :)

I have 2 very different daughters. One 17 one 18.

DD17 - , tall, lean, prefers style to comfort... wears Joe Brown - www.kaleidoscope.co.uk/products/joe-browns-the-libertine-coat/_/A-43W085_14?PFM_rsn=browse&PFM_ref=false&PFM_psp=own&PFM_pge=1&PFM_lpn=37

DD18 - average height, build, likes to be warm! ... wears New Look - www.newlook.com/uk/womens/clothing/coats-jackets/stone-faux-fur-parka-coat/p/619624016?comp=Browse

Both look lovely

ifonly4 · 07/11/2019 14:27

DD has two bum length coats, padded with fur edged hoods, one black, the other a dusty green. She bought them, I think she paid £40/50 each.

Fairylea · 07/11/2019 14:34

Dd is 17 and currently wearing a New look borg black bomber jacket thing all the time. They have them for about £30-40. Black or beige seem to be the most in colours.

Failing that an oversized puffa style coat from H and M is a good bet.

Fairylea · 07/11/2019 14:35

Are you buying this as a gift for her? At 18 id give her the money and let her choose her own if she doesn’t have her own income.

Nighttimefreedom · 07/11/2019 14:43

RosieBenenden why would you assume people on MN don't have kids at state schools? I reckon most do! Weird thing to say.

twosoups1972 · 07/11/2019 15:06

Thank you for that helpful post @gingersausage She has looked around herself but isn’t sure what she wants so is looking for some ideas. Dh also asks for my opinion sometimes on clothing and he’s 56 😂😂😂😂

When I was 18 I was way way past my mother having any involvement in my wardrobe whatsoever!!

twosoups1972 · 07/11/2019 15:28

Well good for you @ReturnofSaturn but my dd does which is why I’m posting.

although not sure how you can buy a coat under £100 OP. Anything that price will be a false economy and sort of thing kids in state schools wear.

Grin Yes, dear.

All my daughter’s friends are wearing teddy bear coats-I think they are rather cute!

Sooverthemill · 07/11/2019 16:54

@twosoups1972 oh dear

I agree quilted/puffer/ down coats will be very warm and probably last a while. My eldest DD deliberately bought a coat in yr 13 that would last her into university as she knew it was the last one we would be paying for! TK Max is a good place to look as well as the shops suggested.

twosoups1972 · 08/11/2019 17:54

@ErrolTheDragon do you have a link to the Debenhams one please?

of puffer coats from Monki

Damn, link fail. Totally user error.
selection of puffer coats from Monki

slipperyeel · 08/11/2019 19:51

State school coats

Definitely one for classics

ErrolTheDragon · 09/11/2019 00:16

Sorry, no OP - I did look to see if I could see anything similar this year but couldn't spot one. Debenhams is one of the better places to find petite smartish but not extortionate stuff, IME.

RockinHippy · 09/11/2019 00:48

You can get your teens into a coat Confused

What is this magic

ErrolTheDragon · 09/11/2019 01:28

Cold, wet school bus stop up north will do it.Grin

nancy75 · 10/11/2019 12:02

I was in Monki yesterday with Dd, the puffer coats are really nice & seem good quality they also have a selection of teddy bear coats that were nice

RubbingHimSourly · 10/11/2019 12:08

Recently ordered my DD this.......she absolutely loves it and it can be dressed up or down.

I couldn't get over how good the quality was for the price either.
